I find reading before I sleep to help a lot. But usually things that you have read before so you aren't excited about plot twists etc . Light music helps too (try A Pillow of Winds by Pink Floyd...the singing, music, everything is just so dreamy).
The lyrics are really sleep/dream-orientated too...
A cloud of eiderdown
Draws around me
Softening a sound.
Sleepy time, and I lie,
With my love by my side,
And she's breathing low.
And the candle dies.
When night comes down
You lock the door.
The book falls to the floor.
As darkness falls
The waves roll by,
The seasons change
The wind is wry.
Now wakes the hour
Now sleeps the swan
Behold the dream
The dream is gone.
Green fields are calling
It's falling, in a golden door.
And deep beneath the ground,
The early morning sounds,
And I go down.
Sleepy time, and I lie,
With my love by my side,
And she's breathing low.
And I rise, like a bird,
In the haze, when the first rays
Touch the sky.
And the night wings die.
If that doesn't work try to do some non-moving activity (watching TV) while lying down...I usually drift off doing that.

If the rest of your life is then that could be an issue. And it is a really bad situation if the only thing worth anything in your life is drugs. It sounds to me that your insomnia is an emotional thing rather than a physical thing. Maybe find someone to help you with those things?

Like a puppy?
Manjanaia2005-05-22 11:35:41
I was thinking more like a friend.
Shiri2005-05-22 11:43:24
I dunno, puppies are good for that, they're relaxing. Taking them on the walks the bloody hyper things need'll tire you out, too.
Yrael2005-05-22 12:05:36
Actually, I think I remember you saying you took dexieamphetamene at one point. If this is the case - down, Nayl. You'll find it hard to sleep a WEEK later after one lot of those.

I haven't had dexie's for like, 2 or 3 months now.
But yea, it's 8.22am, and I haven't slept tonight either.
Yay, my own blog

Try a little melatonin in your coffee or kalua, depending on your choice of poison.

My last bunch was.. er, now, about four days. Before that, about a month. I still had trouble sleeping.

I use the same technique you do to cure insomnia Nayl, i.e. I smoke a lot, but the best non-herbal method I've found to sleep is a massage, not sure how viable they are in Aussie land or how expensive, but one of the joys of China is full body massage with aromatherapy costs about 10 USD.
Things not to try, large quantities of amphetamines, thems be bad for Insomnia trust me. But I'm with Alger, best sleep I ever got was when I worked for four months as a brickies labourer, hard as hell at first but once you get into it, you work hard, play hard (biggest stoners and alcoholics I've ever met) and sleep hard.
Quitting Lusty or taking a break can help too, you'd be surprised how many times you can't sleep, go on Lust, feel tired but get involved, and pass straight through the stage where you're sleepy and wake up again, I know I did cause it's 5am now and I have to wake up in 2 hours to work.
I really shouldn't be an educator of the masses, I'm not suited to it. But hash works wonders, sleeping pills are the devil (I have an addictive personality so never using sleeping pills again). Only problem with hash is smoking too much and getting the munchies which just adds to the insomnia, too much sugar... mmm...

While I don't know that I agree with the coffee or kahlua part, Melatonin is AMAZING for sleeping. Natural, and even my mom, who has the worst insomnia troubles of anyone I personally know, just takes one and drops off, even after using it for a year. If you're really in a bind (like me, one week at a national speech tourney, sick as a dog) combine the wonders of melatonin with that of NyQuil. Nothing better.

I'm suprised no one has said masturbation.
Manjanaia2005-05-24 16:30:21
... have to say that would probably work.

Yea, it does work, most of the time, but, you don't have to repeat yourself

Didn't you know? It drives you MAD!
Nayl2005-05-24 23:31:24
Does not so too much.
Viable sentence lacking need.
Ninja's exploding through roofs attacking my brainses.
Hijacking my own thread, after having a night of no sleep, on accident.
Damnit.
Just as I started to sleep 3 hours a night.
Oh well, time for a 7 hours nap.
Yay, I'm starting to sleep now.
Thanks everyone.

Don't nap! If you actually want to sleep overnight, learn not to nap and create sleeping schedules. Drink some coffee if it's necessary for you to stay awake until the darkness comes.
Nayl2005-05-24 23:49:58
hahahah, the nap was my entire sleep schedule.
I just have a kip for 3 or so hours.
And that's better than none
