i just noticed the redcaps are the powrie from r.a. salvatore's demon wars saga, even down to there little beret, i REALLY like this series of books and just thought it was funny. and good job on the barghest and redcap descripts they look cool
Hajamin2005-05-24 17:44:19
Umm.... NO. It came from old mythology, the writer took it from the same place.
Daganev2005-05-24 17:49:17
I was going to say.. do a search for redcap on the net, in google images.
What modern author would come up with a stupid idea like they are evil because they wear a red hat?

ahh well i never heard of them before i read that series of books, so thats where i thought they came from but ohh well, still cool looking
Daganev2005-05-24 17:56:58
I think redcaps are cool ONLY because they are a 'real myth' if someone just made it up, I'd be shaking my head in shame.
Marcalo2005-05-24 18:01:59
so tell me more about this mythology behind the redcap?

Try this Article. Believe me, they weren't taken from r.a. salvatore's works. (I should know, since I designed them and don't read salvatore.) Anyway, they're mainly a Scottish myth of little evil dwarf-like fae who dye their hats in the blood of humans.
Richter2005-05-24 18:20:23
Aetolia stole goblins from LotR as well. *sparkle*

heh, well only reason i thought they were is because i was thumbing threw the book where they were introduced and there descripts match the one of R.A's so i thought it was cool they matched but now that i know they were taken from a diffrent area that just makes them kinda cooler.
Marcalo2005-05-24 18:27:07
on a side note, is there anyway you could like make the redcap's cackle or somthing or do somthing like send you a tell when there hat is filled with blood?

You should read them! I recommend them, they're mostly masterpieces.

Read R.A. Salvatore... know the wonders of the greatest author ever to exist.
Unknown2005-05-24 20:19:30
his books
Torak2005-05-24 20:25:43
I thought Prowrie soon as I heard it also.

This is the same R.A. Salvatore who wrote the decidely mediocre Drizzt books, right? From what I've read, he's a fairly bog standard generic-fantasy/sci-fi author - certainly not 'the greatest author to exist', unless you count the writer of countless media spin-offs and ties-ins as such!

Not the best by a long way, but he brings Faerun to life. And Faerun takes the crown in my list of best fantasy worlds, its depth is pretty much unmatched.
Marcalo2005-05-24 21:03:14
ok everyone this is the final sign that the world is coming to an end, i tottally agree with amaru, i know i promise the worlds ending will be as painful as possible.
Unknown2005-05-24 21:09:28
If you think Faerun is one of the deepest fantasy worlds ever, than fair enough, but I'd really suggest you read some better fantasy books, as to my mind it epitomises the bland, pseudo-mediaeval worlds that give fantasy a bad name. Try reading some of the Discworld, Deverry, Song of Ice & Fire, Malazan, Sunrunner, Tsurani (sp?) or even Wheel of Time books (!) to see what I mean...
Revan2005-05-24 21:13:51
Faerun? Bland? You're obviously off your chum.
