Just a small change suggestion to how statues work.
TUNE AGAINST ORG MEMBERS
Remove it. Completely.
I don't feel Novices and those who do not skill themselves to fight should be penalized for either walking into a statue tuned against them accidentally or to explore.
I realize the biggest complaint will be, "But Magnagora/Serenwilde/etc. are sending in Novices or so and so to steal such and such from "our" villages." OK, fine. Deal with it. There are four guilds able to help deal with this. Those being the Hartstone, Geomancers, Blacktalon and Aquamancers. If it's unclear, it's called "village defense". You taint/forest/flood, meld and WATCH. It's not such a difficult task that statues need to be placed to prevent every single citizen of any city/commune from entering a village.
It amazes me ... the laziness of some people and moreso the length a city/commune will go to to encourage and promote this laziness.

I have to agree with this in some sense but disagree in others. I like the element of hatred, in rp terms, tuning a statue like this can bring.
Shiri2005-05-25 02:37:44
Fully agreed. They should take DOWN that damn statue.
Richter2005-05-25 04:19:01
I hate when novices that don't know anything about the game get hit with statues...
Athana2005-05-25 04:25:30
Don't forget its also possible to target them against a certain Order...and I don't think there are novices there..

Um, Shiri, we have like 3 anti-Mag statues now in Estelbar. Though we actually help cure them, and I actually summoned the last one past a statue so he could explore the village, the summoned him back out when he was done.
Mag, on the other hand, jumps us when we go to help our novices.

I know, we're putting ours up in hopes that they'll take theirs down. I'm half inclined to just not heal the ones that get stuck in ours, and kill anyone that tries to kill help, because I've had go heal like 10 times now, and others have more. I'll be advocating dropping ours as soon as Magnagora drops theirs, although ours have sod all effect because we keep HELPING people rather than KILLING them.

Let the tards die . Serenwilde needs to be colder and more harsh, dagnabbit!
Sylphas2005-05-25 06:26:38
Sylphas has a weak spot for novices. Whenever he gets a chance, he tries to convert them to Serenwilde. And even if he doesn't, he can't bring himself to be a bitch to them.
Grownups, on the other hand, he couldn't care less about.

Laneth has sympathy for the young, but novies aren't always young. But yeah I see your point, I do feel bad for novices from an ooc perspective when things like this happen.

Actually, I've always helped anyone...novice or not...who's been hit by the Magnagoran statues, in Acknor. Unless they're a city enemy, in which case, they had it coming.
Hell, I've even helped city enemies who were hit by highway statues.
Maybe a better solution would be to make Grace of Innocence protect you from statues. Not guards, but statues. That way, if you're not enemied to a city/commune, you can still explore safely, but if you do something ot get enemied (Such as steal furrikin), then the guards'll hit you.
And really, if they've got Grace of Innocence, do you need the statue to make sure the guards do their job?
Gwylifar2005-05-25 14:59:06
That's an interesting idea.
Bricriu2005-05-25 16:07:17
Until that gets abused as well. Half the reason those statues are up, is because certain people cannot understand roleplay. As such, and not wanting to risk their main, I assume, they make a nice little newbie who can do what they want done, and, once finished, can suicide!
Unless it was coded in that they cannot even give chokeberries/carrots to furrikin while under grace of innocence...I don't see it as workable.

Okay, put it together then. Under Grace of Innocence, you cannot:
- participate in village conflict quests: furrikin refuse your gifts, dwarves won't give you clues or accept crown bits, etc.
- participate in city-vs-city-vs-commune-vs-commune quests that happen outside cities/communes, specifically, seawolves/turtles, and Night/Moon fae.
- be attacked in villages by statues, totems, or guards (but still can inside actual cities/communes)
Result: newbies can explore the villages safely, learn their way around. They can be part of things by doing comm quests. They can get a feel for Lusternia before being thrown into the bloodbath head-first. They can help out their city/commune by doing things like spikes/pixies/etc. and similar quests. But they can't be used as weapons in the village and city/commune conflicts.

tuning it against orgs has caused lots of BAD RP. remember the whole DOC thing?
and orders as well, its just bad

I remember my Geo sitting at the first statue in Estelbar for half an hour, with people even walking past. Nobody but my guild came to help me, and they had to summon me out somehow. Whether I was questing or not (tae'dae cub quest, as a matter of fact), that kind of statue tuned against the entire city just... sarks.
Torak2005-05-28 15:00:01
Great idea, aside from the mass alt abuse that happens, in one day I observed not one , but 3 seren newbies fresh out of the portal who had just their basic skills go to Acknor and steal farmers. Maybe if you could fix this problem I would be more inclined to agree but..just no.
Gwylifar2005-05-28 21:42:58
I wish someone would catch these alleged portals-to-Acknor novices I hear so much about here, and nowhere else, so we could do something about it. But the proposal I made would stop that anyway.

Haha. Novices can't do the spike quest!

I stole furrikin from acknor right after I first started playing. Its not very hard to do...
Erm, my point is, just cause they are stealing them real quick doesn't mean that they are alts. If they don't go to minia, they probably are, but not fo sho.
And for the ones that are alts, you SUCK.
EDIT: and not to mention that its incredibly easy to bypass the statues if you are stealing (at least getting in, ifyou exert any power you can get out too SUPER EASY)... So I guess that argues for the statues. I dunno.
