I'm curious as to why Ectoplasm has no power cost associated with it whatsoever as to allow a Necromancer to effectively reduces the offense all his or her enemies with one single move that costs virtually nothing.
An example of this was during a fight on Ethereal earlier involving some Magnagorans, Serenwilders, and Glomdoring. Errutu used ectoplasm for a total of 25 times consecutively within a spand of less than 5 minutes, it was all she did while Daevos and Alger were shieldstunning. I don't mind the shieldstunning as much as the fact that Eruttu was able to use ectoplasm so many times in a row to drain our cleanse enchantment. It's even more perplexing to me as to why the Nihilist's Guild champion, Thorgal, and the ur'Guard's Guild Administrator, Alger, have explicitly stated before that their members weren't allowed to use such cheap and low tactics in fighting.
I'm not exactly sure how much 'Ecto-whoring' it would be considered to be draining someone completely out of cleanse enchantment, but since a bracelet only holds up to 20 charges, 25 ectoplasm seems a bit excessive to me.

Must we remove the usefulness of Necromancy all together? Ghost, Ectoplasm and Lich (And, to a lesser extent, Shrivel and Omen) are it for usefulness. And with the ability of demesnes to hit through ghost, and Lich to randomly disappear..
Terenas2005-05-25 07:02:42
Yes?
I'm not asking for a downgrade to Ectoplasm, I'm curious as to why such a powerful room-based affliction costs nothing to use, especially when it can only be cured by an enchantment. If you don't think someone using it 25 times in a row is excessive and lame, then I don't know what to say about it.

Malicia2005-05-25 07:06:38
I was there. I was able to cure it about 4-5 times, before I had to tumble out of the room. 25 times? Obviously she was trying to kill our cleanse enchantments. Cheap as ever. I can also confirm that both Thorgal and Alger have stated that such tactics were discouraged in Magnagora. Guess not. It should cost power at least.
Icarus2005-05-25 07:11:14
You have to keep in mind that each time he uses it, ALL enemies in the room need to cleanse.
I wouldn't mind so much if it costs 0 power but targetted. It's just a bit too much to whore it during group combat. Kinda like shieldsmash during FFA really.

It's got a pretty big balance time as is. Isn't that enough? *mumble* It's a reasonably lowish level in Necromancy, and one of our few useful abilities. No touchy. Please? I'm out of useful arguments except for the previous.
Daevos2005-05-25 07:15:59
You act like ecto is lethal and that it doesnt wear off on its own.
Malicia2005-05-25 07:16:48
What the hell? Waiting for it to wear off gets you KILLED.
Daevos2005-05-25 07:20:59
Ok, tell me something, what do you think ecto does?
Revan2005-05-25 07:21:17
Get a wand of cleanse, perhaps? Custom enchanted by yours truely

Slows balance recovery by a hell of a lot, making epilepsy/scabies/wind/sacrifice a complete bitch. And it hardly has a long balance recovery, people do it on me only a fraction slower than I can cure it.
Alger2005-05-25 07:57:48
the reason i think would be at the start ecto hit everybody, contagion hit everybody... but then they put in the declare change and it became only enemies.
btw this is disappointing... we already talked about this whole thing then you have to bring it up again here like we didnt talk about it.

she ectowhored to ensure you had ectoplasm. You could have just -not- cleaned it and run away. It was a good tactic to give us the advantage, especially when you have dark moon up which stacks with ancestral curse (so im told) and it passively strips our defs. I personally told her to do it as part of a valid group combat tactic, not to run down anyones cleanse enchantment, hell go and buy a few wands of it.

Man that's lame, considering how badly you're screwed if you don't cure it. The only reason it isn't overpowered is because people agree not to abuse it ridiculously like that. Similar way pooka isn't overpowered because people agree not to empty vials/darkchant cannibalizemana;toadcurse/transmute/focus spiirt etc.
I guess I'll just stop objecting to nasty pooka tricks on you. And we're getting a few more people with pookas now, believe me. You can't stay off-balance forever.
Torak2005-05-25 09:34:52
Yeah lets nerf necromancy more, infact hell lets make all its skills useless and add power costs to leech too. Shut up, please.

Except...they -don't- agree to it, it's used on every possible occasion...as is shieldbash, and I still do tell the Nihilists to not whore it, but if someone equal to my rank orders them to, there's not much I can do. And I think even the admins can tell by now that even more downgrades is the last necromancy needs now..

Who does this? Report to me when they do it, will you? I want to keep track, but no one's shown me or told me or anything.
And I don't know if Necromancy couldn't use downgrades AND upgrades. I mean, unless you think a skill is okay if it has a lot of useless skills and three awesome skills. I'd prefer if it all skills in a skillset were usable, but there was nothing ridiculously overpowered. Iunno. :/
EDIT: Oh, and uh...even Murphy didn't shieldsmash me, who does?
Unknown2005-05-25 09:57:51
Ectoplasm was fine. However, that changed when it was changed allowing it to distinguish between enemies and allies. It's sort of skewed that it can be used in that manner.
Torak2005-05-25 10:09:41
Next time killl Eruttu first?
Shiri2005-05-25 10:17:45
Not if they're busy fixing ectoplasm with an enchantment that takes eq, and if they don't they get winded and scabies'd and epilepsy'd and knocked permanently off balance so they can be either mangled into a bloody pulp or soullessed or whatever.
