In most of the cases, opposed villages make each other harder to gain. Plus the quests are opposed which further makes it harder to hold them both and benefit from them both. But they're not entirely impossible to hold. I think it's clear Shanthmark and Paavik will be so opposed, for the opposition between aslaran and krokani is not merely firmly established, it is the lion's share of what we know about both races.

QUOTE(roark @ May 30 2005, 11:13 PM)
That was never the case. It was always merely harder to take a rivalry once rivalries were implemented. The reasoning for it is mathematical. Since you typically only have one village open at a time, if you are merely slightly better than the other cities then you will be predisposed to monoplizing every village if all villages are equal, which defeats the purpose of villages. This makes it graduated so that you need to be good to take some villages, really good to take more than half, and godly good to take them all, etc.

Subj: Village Influence Change
From this point forward, when Rockholm or Southgard go into play, the
dwarves there will refuse to be influenced at all by whichever city
controls Angkrag.
Unless that's changed since then...

Aye, thank you very much for two new villages, it's always nice to explore new areas and find out things about quests!

I forgot about that. Indeed, it looks like that is the case for those villages. Also, I was wrong about there not being a rivalry wit the two new villages. I was looking at an old copy of the code.

I like the villages, but I didn't like that headstart Glomdoring recieved, that was just poor play in my opinion.
I agreed that Glomdoring could have a short advance notice, because Glomdoring has such fewer numbers of members than everyone else, has only a fraction of power of any other organization, and is still struggling to get off the ground. Note that this was not "given" to them--they just ended up with about a 5 minute head start. If you begrudge Glomdoring this one small bone we threw them this one time, you can blame me.
Singollo2005-05-30 17:36:26
Okay, but you really didn't benefit them much. They weren't ready for that village, as we've been demonstrating.
You also need to consider the fact that you might be making Glomdoring divine dependent. They're already Viravain's pet.

i can't wait to explore the krokani village and try to find hints as to why they were able to push back the taint and nobody else
Sorry, but Paavik had nothing really to do with pushing back the taint. That was mainly the krokani of Castle Djarrakh. Paavik does, however, have an interesting ghost story.
Has anyone accomplished the Shanthmark or Paavik honours quest?

I normally don't have a desire to block people but your making me come close.

Welp, then you won't be able to see when I did something to need moderating. I think its a splendid idea, oh facist one.

It seems like the Shanthmark one cannot be done right now (as far as I can tell), so someone probably already did it, and it has not reset yet. Either that, or I'm misunderstanding the denizens -grins-
Estarra2005-05-30 18:36:18
Ah, you're right. Someone did do the Shanthmark quest and it hasn't reset. No one seems to have done the Paavik quest though.

I don't believe it's bugged. You can message me why you think its bugged but 9 times out of 10, it's just that you haven't figured everything out yet.
Daganev2005-05-30 19:41:11
The main reason Glomdoring did not get the second village was because the goal was to get one village, thinking it unlikely to be able to fight two at once, so once we got one village many people started to leave and relax leaving those who were there expecting certain support, lacking in that support and scrambling to get reorganized. Not to mention the villages oppose eachother.
All an organization needs to take a village is preperation organization and high moral.

I tried to do it too. I was horribly confused. And I was wondering if there were more quest items, because I couldn't find any that I already had.

Aww, the timer on the Shanthmark quest is absurdly long =\\ It's been like six days so far, according to someone who has been waiting here for it to reset.

To add to the original post, thank you to the admins for the two new villages and the arena, but mostly.. thank you Roark for fixing Explorer....

It's the same reset as all the other honour quests (tae'dae cubs, murder mystery, delport, etc.), which can be done no more than 2x in 24 hours.

Having 'whored' some of those quests, I can say quite clearly that they are not all on the same timers. The Estelbar quest can be done just about every IC day, but I have sat at the Countess in Stewartsville for 4-6 IC days waiting for her to die before. You can do 1/7th of the Rock Shepard one every IC day or so. I haven't gotten the feeling for the timers on the other quests, as they are all in enemy territory *cough* But the times certainly are not all the same from what I have seen.
