This wasn't an issue, though, until he started whining. Then we get an announce about it, and a massive change to Faethorn. Awfully larget coincidence.
Daganev2005-05-27 07:15:34
I'm not aware of any threads on the topic pre announce post.
Even Lisarea was saying in the IRC room (as a joke) that they should just make the whole plain pacified.

Visaeris did not argue for archways.
It was one suggestion out of many given to prevent a rule that just made it so you can't do anything across borders, ever.

Visaeris does not argue. He whines and cries whenever he gets killed.

Well, sleep would be nice.
Back on topic, I actually like the concept of the archways, however, because of them, the demesne's of the 'Home' grounds, and the middle need to be done by separate people. At this stage, it harms the Blacktalon a fair amount because of lower numbers. However, that shouldn't really be taken into consideration for -future- conflict apon Ethereal.
My inference from all this, is because Glomdoring isn't fully setup, with totems and a full layout of guards, we were disadvantaged by the pathway heading down into Glomdoring. Although the archways are nice, and at this stage, are a great relief to me, OOC'ly.
Hmm.... I had another paragraph to put up, but lost my train of thought.

Regarding who whined what into being, there were actually complaints by people not known for whining in the issues database regarding these sorts of situations, which led to the fix for barge et al. Several changes come about through feedback from envoys and trends seen in issues (taking into consideration the merit of the issuer) than from forums.
Gregori2005-05-27 22:09:30
I don't think anyone is disputing the barge change, which is a good change in my eyes. I am not firmly convinced of the barge out, but definately the barge in. Instead, people are more concerned with the archways being a trainwreck waiting to happen. It is much easier to lay siege now than ever before as you can lay down numerous passive effects, move off, and just wait for them to enter before pouncing on them, and they won't even be aware of the effects there until they walk into them.
Overall if cross border tactics was the main issue to be fixed, changing the layout would have been a better go than adding an entrance which hinders more than helps.
I still maintain that one of the bigger problems forcing issues is cities being able to demesne on Ethereal, meaning that instead of two Communes rping their dislike and duking it out, you have two communes and two cities teaming each other, which is by far the bigger complaint. Yes, people like Daevos and Murphy can still help Glomdoring, but are they going to be as inclined knowing that they are fighting without the aid of their demesne makers? Same with Celest, Amaru may still fight and help for us, but why would Geb bother knowing that he can't use some of his more powerful skills?
Leave Etherwild and EtherGlom open to the mages to meld so they are not inhibited in raiding of either side, but force Faethorn into a static Nature only demesne.

I would like to point out that, before, it was perfectly possible for members of the Serenwilde to slay Glomdoring champions, and vice versa, even if they were enemied to the Commune in question. They simply had to fly in, enter through the trees, or burrow in while the members of the Commune were distracted. The mediocre fighters and the extremely experienced fighters could both enter both sides. Now, because of the archways, the only people who have any chance of getting in are those like Tuek, Daevos, Narsrim, and Murphy who can survive being pummeled by fifteen or more guards and not mind in the slightest, since the only entrance is now at ground level. I think that this change is very much for the worse, as it severely limits the ability of the communes to participate in the Faethorn battles.
Also, since it is now impossible to sneak into the Ethereal Glomdoring, the Sceptre quest is now next to impossible for those who cannot Serpent. Dealing with a Blacktalon Demense was hard enough (though quite interesting) when trying to find the quest item in the Glomdoring, but now it is just blanketly impossible.
I am not really complaining, though I strongly disagree with the changes. I am just trying to figure out if all these effects were intentional or not. Those changes to the entrances severely limit my, and many others, chance to take part in the Faethorn events

If I remember correctly, the issue was never people camping outside, the issue was people camping outside or inside and being able to attack across the border.
Sylphas2005-05-28 00:33:56
Attacking over the border didn't touch anyone with clue. To get rid of your shield, we had to enter your territory.
Daganev2005-05-28 00:37:53
Roark and Estarra say otherwise.
I love all the qualifiers people put on thier claims.

Anyone without serpent CANNOT enter Glomdoring (or vice versa) through the archway. Period. I was just experimenting earlier, and the 40+guards and 5 swarms of locusts (which entangle as well) outside the archway promptly killed me, even though I had numbness on, it took me from 6534 to 0 when numbness wore off.
I am wondering: can we have those range guards instead?
EDIT: Along with Serpent, Dreambodies and Ghosts can slip past as well I think. But I have none of those.
Sylphas2005-05-28 03:23:19
They stacked 5 locusts? That really seems like a bug.
Unknown2005-05-28 03:30:35
It's not just impossible to do the Glomdoring aspect of the sceptre quest without serpent because of the archways, it's impossible to kill Champions and end a neutrality effect if both sides are at the max.
