Considering I have hexes, and as a Nihilist I had them.
The only new skill I have is Whammy, and it would have some usefulness,
-if- I could get the blackout on vapors to work.
Thorgal2005-05-27 09:53:43
Umm..hexes is now a lot more powerful than tarot for sheer combat use, which was most likely what they're designed for, since they have no utility use.

Whammy: throw one masked hex at someone for 1p.

Doublewhammy: Throw two masked hexes at someone for 2p.

It's basically a mix between curses and evileye, masked deadeyes anyone? You can now instantly venomlock someone with anorexia/asthma for 2 power, at 0.5 equilibrium recovery, and they wouldn't even know they're locked. Without focus mind you won't stand the shadow of a chance against a hexer, and even WITH focus mind you're gonna be hard-pressed to even survive without a nearly perfect curing system...guess that's a good thing for my business though.
Shiri2005-05-27 09:57:56
You can probably stand to focus mind immediately if you get hit with an invisible hex for just that purpose.
Thorgal2005-05-27 09:59:34
The thing is, the messages for normal hexes, whammy hexes, and doublewhammy hexes, are all identical.
Shiri2005-05-27 10:18:51
Yes, but if it's not whammy'd, you get another message directly after it. You can do something where it only focus minds on being hexed if you get a prompt directly after it, right?

But would you give up Tarot for Hexes?
Thorgal2005-05-27 10:59:41
Yes..

Hexes is just more powerful for combat than tarot, period. But I'm also still an aslaran, and besides tarot, none of my skills use balance.

It doesn't need opinions to determine which is more powerful, the facts speak for themself.
Nayl2005-05-27 11:01:38
I sense a but in there somewhere.

EDIT: Damnit, Thorgal added the second sentence in, with an EDIT. Put notes in damnit.
EDIT2: Make that his second edit. closedeyes.gif

I'd drop Hexes for Tarot in heartbeat. Hexes are good, but Tarot is still far better, especially for a wiccan

I sense a but as well.

You'd give up the fleeing abilities granted by Tarot, namely Catacombs and Hermit (and now Starleaper)? You would also give up the extremely powerful entangling and hindering capabilities of Tarot?
Thorgal2005-05-27 13:29:50
Well, tarot is a lot more powerful defensive than hexes, but hexes is a lot more powerful offense than tarot.
Terenas2005-05-27 15:08:24
Don't forget one of the best instantkills in the game, Soulless, if not the best now since Chasm is stoppable by peace and has a longer duration.
Ethelon2005-05-27 15:39:38
My offensive would be insane with tarot. Hexes is not as great as you seem to think Thorgal.
Unknown2005-05-27 15:43:55
hexes+ents+choke= run with your tail inbetween your legs!
Unknown2005-05-27 15:52:13
The grass is always greener on the other side smile.gif

Having had both, if I went nihilist again, I would choose hexes at this point. Tarot guzzles too much power, gold and time for my tastes and is no longer that much more effective.

As for the name whammy, I think it's kind of cute blush.gif
Xavius2005-05-27 15:53:42
I'd like to have a shot at hexes, if only because quickening is a fairly routine part of my offense. Don't get me wrong, I love my tarot, but I just don't have that extra afflicting edge that hexes could offer.

No it wouldn't, and yes it is.

Also Terenas, in a world where people can tumble in under half a second, no timed instakill is "the most powerful" anything at all.

Someone without focus mind (majority of Lusternian population)? Draw anorexia, draw asthma, doublewham UnluckyFellow with anorexia/asthma, game over.
Jack2005-05-27 16:04:54
Heh. I am -so- switching to Hexes.

(And buying 200 or so credits.)
