Last night I was thinking about how even though dreamweavers cannot actually harm someone without them making mistakes, there are no ways to block a dreamweavers attacks.
What about a new mid-level skill in discipline, say between Breathing and Selfishness, called DeepTrance:
DeepTrance Meditation so deep your mind will be all but impenetrable.
Syntax: DEEPTRANCE
By focusing your mind upon nothingness, you will enter a deep meditative state that is unable to be pierced by those in the dreamscape.
While they are in a deeptrance, any action will dispell it, like holding breath. Also, they will be temporarily blind and deaf. (Maybe they can speak without losing the trance though). Perhaps mana and willpower will regenerate faster in this state, but probably not. The main benefit is that because their mind is empty, a dreamweaver won't be able to target them at all.
Example:
> Deeptrance
You close your eyes and begin to let your mind float away from your surroundings, focusing upon the relaxing image of .
(a few seconds)
You disconnect entirely from your physical body, your mind deeply in trance.

Sounds kinda reasonable once I get past the idea of someone falling into a deep trance in the middle of combat.
I agree something probably needs implementing

I likey. A decent defence but not something that people will keep up all the time.
Unknown2005-05-27 00:25:37
I think it should make you invisible to dreamwalkers entirely, with them also unable to affect you. Would make sense. Them unable to see you.
Elryn2005-05-27 00:33:20
Fair enough. And its not likely to be done in the middle of combat, which is why it works as a reasonable defence.
I wouldn't want to stand there blind to my enemies walking up to me, or deaf to warnings from my organization.

That's all true, but eventually one of the two (the dreamweaver and the person in the trance) has to give in. The dreamweaver could just sit there if there's not one violeting/kethering and wait for the person to come out of the trance.
Elryn2005-05-27 01:51:52
Yep. Except the dreamweaver is steadily losing willpower.
This is not intended to give everyone the ability to make dreamweavers powerless, but for those who want to avoid being hit by annoying dreamwalkers, they have a recourse.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Elryn.. All someone has to do is climb a tree and we cannot touch them. They don't need this.

Elryn2005-05-27 01:56:40
Heh, I know, but not all areas have trees or open air.
Ialie2005-05-27 01:58:41
So they can run away to a place that does. We can't even stay that long.
Also Every nation has the potential to have dreamweavers. Just get another dreamweaver to come get us. Or engage us yourself. We are not hard to repell because eventually we will have to go in a very short amount of time. ANything we do in dreamform drains us like crazy.

Yeah, this would be unnecessary. Shush Elryn.
Elryn2005-05-27 02:04:19
Meh, just an idea. I had thought all the people screaming to nerf dreamweaving would appreciate it... but apparently not.
Unknown2005-05-28 04:34:10
Well Dreamtrance seems like a good idea, and well right now since there seems to be no Blacktalon anywhere that's around when you need them, that has Dreamweaving, i'm about ready to go Druid and get it again. The only thing i think should be changed is that embeded motes should hit dreambodies if they're enemied to the embeder. Reason: They're of the Dream Realm, seems kinda logical that they can also hit other things of the Dream Realm.

Well that's a pretty annoying bug!
Unknown2005-05-28 05:47:00
Well not really, a dream body doesn't have arms or legs to climb with. Dream Guards, i tell you, DREAM GUARDS! Well if we ever get new guards the mage ones could be Elemental Dream Bodies *hope*
Ixchilgal2005-05-29 23:00:03
Hey, I suggested dream guards in my envoy report!
And I'm pretty sure I suggested embedded motes hitting the Dreambody, but I might be mistaken. Not that it matters, afflictions don't bother you while in Dreambody, but -anyways-!

And then did the Shamarah say:
NO.

Mental afflictions do.

If they have no arms or legs, then what are they standing with? And if they aren't standing, why can't they float up to the trees or to the sky?
Daganev2005-06-03 00:58:45
Dream Guards is a bad idea.. However I do think certain specific uber people who have powered up to unreasonable levels of credithood should be able to defend themselves from dreambody attacks on thier own.
Wish I could come up with a good telpathy example that was in popular culture but they all escaped me save Star Trek Nemesis movie which I'm not sure people actually went and saw.

Anyone with lots of credits can get violet/kether, daganev. Or are you referring to this idea?
Edit: And I -hated- that movie. The romulans and their culture was so intriguing, especially after Reunification I & II in ST:TNG... but Nemesis just made them silly.
