A life of sorts.
I live in the middle of nowhere, I can't drive (and wouldn't have anything to drive anyway) and I've long since run out of books.
I spent 16 years loving reading, reading everything I could get my hands on (Even Sun Tzu's Art of War and Stephen Hawking's Brief History of Time ) - now I just don't need to turn the page. (I guess typing makes up for that, though... exercise of a sort?)
Seriously? I enjoy doing things, all the time. If it keeps my mind occupied, I'm happy. That's why I hate lulls and quietness online.

TYPING SPEED! 10 years ago I started IRE as a hunt and peck typer, now I can hit 100+ WPM. Yay, it's like a 10 year $1000 typing class!
Oh, I did get this nifty zap ability too, albeit that doesn't relate to real life... or does it.

I get a totally overpowered vocabulary. Nerf me!

Raezon only touched the surface of what real life skills you are gaining without realizing it. Many are learning leadership skills, which anyone with a real job can tell you is EXTREMELY important. Economics, why yes to learn alot of the basics of business from this. Speaking skills? Well how do those people get elected to city leaders, from those same skills that get people IRL into politics. Tactics, which for those in a military career can relate. The list goes on, if you ever take some kind of job skills assesment, you'll realize how much of it you have learned from years of playing IRE games. Most muds can't offer that, due to the fairly unique system we have here.... ok and now I sound like an advertisement, but eh it's all true. Seriously think about it some time, you might be amazed.
HINT: For those that want to put in on a resume, you can. Here's what you say, "in a simulated environment." Yes it works, I've gotten jobs because of that before.

Good idea.

I got the leadership skills already, but don't tell anyone
My nickname used to be Sargeant Trinity, oh, the good old days. I was a sargeant in the AAFC once upon a time, and only Aussies will understand that abbreviation I'm sure.

Doesn't work for parents though
The typing speed has worked out good though, a good skill to have.

tell them you're working on an important project (hey it's kinda true..somewhat )
Manjanaia2005-06-01 22:02:38
Yeah my typing speed is lightning now, all because of mudding. *peers at lame computer class he has spent two years doing and got nothing from, and that is ruining his life, and at this long emote*

Pah, they know I dont do work. If I'm doing this 'project' for more then an hour, they'll get suspicious.
Athana2005-06-03 02:24:18
My parents seriously don't understand...no matter how hard I try to explain what Lusternia is. They think i'm just in a chat room.
Acrune2005-06-03 02:27:49
My parents have given up on trying to understand Lusternia. Old people just dont get it. Silly old people.
Unknown2005-06-03 03:04:22
Before I slap you silly Acrune...how old are your parents?
Think very hard before you answer *Sparkle*

Living at home again as I unfortunately am, my mother's boyfriend has gotten so pissed off at the amount of time I spend on the internet when he leaves the house (not allowed to use it when he's at home) that he has now declared the internet is to be used in our house for netbanking only.
Joli2005-06-05 05:37:50
hmm. I get yelled at by my mom a lot. She thinks only sickos and pervs play the game, but I've actually met a lot of good people on achaea and lusternia. Yes, we do have our share of those types of people, but it's not really that bad. I can type without looking again (somehow I forgot that skill a while back) and it helped how fast I can read. I was the first person done in my group of people when I took the ACT and I think if I hadn't of played muds and gotten used to reading things as fast as possible I wouldn't have been able to get finsihed on time.
oh yeah. I lost a best friend, who later got engaged to someone she'd only known for 2 months. She later started doing drugs and she found out right before school ended that the guy has a child. I'm kinda glad I didn't get sucked into that. (for the record, she was only 16 when she got engaged.. 17 now)
I guess that's about all.. besides the headaches, the threats, the wanting to go thru my computer and choke a few idiots, but that's all normal for us.

I get anxiety, depression, frustration, sadness, more depression, tremendous amounts of frustration, and the occasional dose of fun.
And a dose of dropping out of highschool mixed in for extra flavour.

How do you people get so addicted? If you're not having fun, then... log off and play something else? It's not hard, I don't get it
