I have a question: I give the required items to the required people in Newton, the hint comes up saying "Find the portal and do this or that to open it" but when I do this or that nothing happens... Well I suppose it doesn't really matters because soon I'll graduate from Newton, but I was just wondering...

You have to fiddle around with certain objects at the portal once the portal has been fixed. Then you'll open it. And wow, you're close to graduating from Newton and you've never been to Lolliprin? (unless you hitchhiked a portal when someone else was opening it)

Well, sometimes someone else opens them first.
Stealing your portal, per se.

If you don't pull the lever or turn the crank fast enough, they reset.

Maybe you did the things only once? Last time I've been to Newton, they wanted the objects to be manipulated 3 times or more.

lever is pulled once. Crank is turned 3 times.

Those quests, and others, reset in random amounts of time, sometimes too short for you to actually finish the quest you are in the middle of doing. Highly annoying =\\
