Yeah, I noticed I missed Malicia twice in a row when she probably wasn't stancing or in CS Defensive, oh well, at least it makes CS Concentrated useful now.
Shiri2005-06-08 22:35:08
Judging by this and stuff Thorgal said on IRC, I have a feeling the problem might be to do with combat? Now that combat no longer increases accuracy (or so I hear) it might be that trans combat people are dodging too much and master odd combat people are dodging far too little. Apparently pre-changes trans combat dodged about 3 times as much...but I can't verify that.

I didn't really get a chance to test this all out on the Test Server, but now that the Knighthood changes are in place I have noticed I am missing a lot more than I was previously.

There is a big difference (in code) between missing outright and the target dodging. The target dodging part was much harder to adapt to this change than the hit/miss section of the code. Large NPCs are more likely to dodge, and always have been. I tried to estimate something good for them with the new formulas, though it is not unlikely that it is off, especially for NPCs. To help compensate, I made balance for a strike that does not strike its target take half the balance time. Thus if you normally swing a sword in 4 seconds, a miss only costs you 2 seconds rather than a full 4 seconds. I may downgrade NPC dodging (which means an upgrade for you, a downgrade for the poor goats), but I've not decided yet.
Syrienne2005-06-08 22:55:28
What about wounding Roark? This is way out of control.

That would be awesome.
Anyway, I don't think it's too unreasonable to ask for people with Trans Knighthood and masterweapons to not miss as often. Back before the precision change, my rapiers with 190 and 221 to hit still missed on Astral mobs, sometimes twice in a row. I can understand the crushingly powerful mobs dodging more than normal ones, but I was missing against even the weakest Astral mobs with my rapiers.
Syrienne2005-06-08 22:58:28
Agreed. Now if only Stances didnt nerf our accuracy.

I have to agree, I do too much woundings at the moment. Against a Knight in fullplate I'm managing at least 18 to 20 woundings (19 on Malicia with 105 cutting), against anyone with 80 cutting or lower, 22 to 24. It's utterly rediculous.
Edit- 18 to 20 woundings against Malicia recently.

That's all good and well, but I'm talking about missing, not being dodged. As you pointed out, there is a big difference between the two.
From what I can make out, when your target "Steps to the side" that would be dodging (not sure on the exact line) but when you just swing and miss completely, that's a straight miss. I'm seeing far more of the latter, and in fact very little of the dodging.
Fair enough, a miss now takes 'half' the balance recovery time, but it then sends your swings into a wilf off-set rythym which not only looks stupid but is frustrating to manage. This is of course better than missing and having to wait the normal recovery time before being able to swing again on that arm, but I'd rather have my previous accuracy back.
And I wasn't calling for a downgrade to NPC's, screw NPC's. Just get Knighthood right.

That's something I had wanted to be brought up, concussion and bashbrain doable with crush. It's virtually unblockable, even if you were parrying your head, he could still have done it, it's highly annoying.
133578
Concussion yes, but Brainbash no. I have never brainbashed anyone with Crush or Pulp, no matter what the AB files say. In the fight with Revan, the brainbash came from a Smite Down.
EDIT: Oh Crush and Pulp can miss too, with Crush missing may be 1 in 6 and Pulp 1 in 2. And yeah wounding is insane. Alger said he could pinleg somebody (Daevos) in 4 strikes.
Daganev2005-06-09 01:36:53
Are Shortswords and Clubs intended to be the best weapons for wounding?
Icarus2005-06-09 02:25:42
Best weapons for wounding would be ones with very high precision, like rapiers.
Daganev2005-06-09 02:27:02
Masterwork Shortswords get up to 300 percision. They use to be able to make you hit easier....
Unknown2005-06-09 02:39:39
Good point. I believe I'm going to forge myself some shortswords now...
Shryke2005-06-09 02:44:56
what if you made some crazy shortswords that had like 0,300,300 stats... A fealing with those would get a behead in like 20 seconds... **drool**
Xenthos2005-06-09 02:46:57
Um, any high-strength race would get it faster. Even with 300 precision and 150 speed.
Hit elsewhere until they move parry, makehay target's head, done.

Rakor2005-06-09 02:49:41
The shortsword thing has been fixed now, apparently. I'm fairly sure they were never intended to be the best weapons.
Xenthos2005-06-09 02:50:36
Yeah, mine're down to 120 precision now.
Least they're still good for what I was using them for, novice training without killing said novices

is it possible to get on this server? I have not yet connceted, it's been trying for a couple times now, and I heard you have to be an envoy and asked to go on.. not sure if that's true or not.
Unknown2006-06-27 20:53:28
Gah, you necro'd a year old thread.

yeah , that's what I do. so someone answer
