I picked humans during open beta, with the means to gain levels alot faster. When I was at a suitable level, I picked merian then Dracnari for the rp.

By RP, you mean "Excellent race"? For Dracnari, anyway.

I don't think there really is any reason for playing humans in any game, expect for any experience bonus. As said before, humans are plain bland. I have yet to see anything interesting with humans, and in Lusternia we know nothing about humans.
Sudoxe2005-06-05 05:25:45
I chose human during open beta simply because from my experience in IRE's other games, they're a good race to start with. Eventually went Viscanti, at least until the bug with linking was fixed, and decided to go back to human due to more players coming up to astral, thus leaving less for me to kill.
Now, however, it's uncommon for warriors to kill things up there no less than twice as fast as me, which has be wondering whether human nihilist was the way to go or not.

Humans in IRE games remind me of humans in the second edition D&D game. They try to plan in some 'humans are smart and learn faster' option, but that can always be overcome by dedicated/addicted players, and it doesn't balance out with the lack of stat adjustments, which is HUGE, especially here where stats are so inflated. In another realm, you might be like 'most magi only have 14 or 15 INT, so having 12 isn't that far behind.' Here, you're talking about people ROUTINELY and without stat altering arties having ints of 20 or 22, and these aren't dragons at level 100. 12 as a stat sucks ASS.
Do what 3rd edition did for humans: find a way to make them the most adaptable race out there. small xp bonus, maybe a stat add like they have in imperian (or had, when I tried it way back when) or something of the sort.

RP-wise, humans should probably get some upgrades, since there's two whole villages filled with them.

As Hajamin put it:
They are teh sux0r and I'd never play that crap.

What about a human knight at high levels with surge? 5kish health, no? harmony blessing, war blessing, str modifiers .. didn't Gruhk stick about as human for a while whilst bashing to titan?
Getting there, though, is a pain. Maybe not for a human paladin/urguard with surge and good armour. It definitely sucked as a human celestine.

hrm..never chosen human here while playing cause the other races just sound so much more interesting than boring ole human.

Thing is, faster kills > more experience per kill.
Acrune2005-06-05 16:51:52
Yeah, I was human for a while. Merian was tempting when I first started, but the level 2 experience bonus and the... not having 10 con... was pretty appealing when I started. Soon, I was noticing that as a human, I couldn't kill dream leeches, because they regened an itty bit less then I was hitting them for, so I'd wind up fighting them for ages before they'd go down, costing me tons of mana. Switching to merian actually made me gain experience significantly faster, because I was killing things in half the time, and I doubt humans get twice the experience as merians.
Shamarah2005-06-07 22:19:58
So... who won the bet? (I'm guessing Hajamin.)
Kharvik2005-06-07 23:22:32
I'm a high level Human knight, with surge and this nice TF I have 19 con and 8.5k health and 18str (this is all after I've deffed up). If I'm lucky I get a +1 to one of those with Fortuna. If I cannibalize mana I get up to 10k. Granted when the TF wears off it wont be as nice, but still it is not bad really.
That said, I went Human because finally they weren't "as" sucky as before and for the exp gain. I rather like being a Human and am considering remaining one permanently.

Humans got a serious boost now.
And I chose one for both RP and Exp. Read my background if you care.

Well... yes and no... I actually said 95% of people would choose sux0r or exp. So if you take my words litterally I lost by like 2.5%.

Never understood the "human is boring" thing.
A story is as boring as you make it.
Say something about faelings and crystal soldiers and companion archangels and people forget the "boring human" told them the story.
Say something about how a human, who might be viewed as an underdog, overcomes the odds and works past the racial enmity of former enemy rhino people and slays the dragon because he's inventive... same thing. And he does it in 20 years instead of 300 because he doesn't have the time to be lazy like the elves
Shiny new labels can be put on anything, let's not be convinced of content so easily.

just as a fyi, and I know I'm sounding like a wounded record here, but the only reason I left human was my complete inability to tank the damage from any of the players in Magnagora that mattered during things like raids and influencing. I'm thinking of reverting now I know I can get 13 con and 13/14 int as a human celestine at my level (since that is what Ceren has at my level) but still, warriors and geomancers do a bloody insane amount of damage. I'm not sure how, at all, the Divine think Celestines could be top echelon celestine fighters without being something with high con and regen like Amaru/Loboshigaru. Imperial Merians are going to die in one haymaker from a warrior.
So, I like human. Its sufficiently average in a world where there's a lot of choice. I also liked answering "because I /am/ human" when people ask me why I'd choose such a stupid race.

As a level 75 Celestine Human
13 str, 14 dex, 13 con, 14 int, 12 cha
13 str, 14 dex, 13 con, 14 int, 12 cha

Another thing you can RP as a human is being a total racist, and ignorant human. Theres lots of resources available to you to know how to do it.
"Did you just compliment her hairly legs? HER HAIRY LEGS!? EEWWWWWWW your nasty!, go back to chasing mice you freaky cat on two legs"

I like how, in Lusternia, humans can be whatever you want them to be. From the background info for humans, most of them aren't just plain old boring humans, but instead half-breeds with several racial features of the other races. So, Estarra has given people the flexibility to be whateve they want to be as a human - I don't see it as 'boring' in that sense. With the evolution thing, their race isn't pathetic anymore compared to others (I think), though I'm not sure exactly what stats it gives. *shrugs*
Akraasiel2005-06-17 23:30:10
Game mechanics win again.
That and the fact that the roleplay resources for humans is sorely lacking. We know they popped out of the void with Estarra, thats about it.
