Nyla told me OOCly that the guy who was engaged to someone asked him what he should do because his fiancee was being very rude to a guildmate, and Nyla apparently told him "nothing matter but Glomdoring" and he broke it off on his own.

Mind you, the way Nyla talks, I can understand thinking that was a threat, if what he said to me is true.

Probably a bigger question than you intended to ask.

Following the model of various big hunting cats, but with adaptations for sapience and gender equality, I'm trying to posit aslaran as having a wide variety of combinations that are equally accepted, and I'd like it if the game system supported that instead of rubbing against it. So some aslaran pair-bond, some bond in one-to-many groups (like a harem), some in many-to-many groups (like a polyamorous triad). There's a small skew that chieftains are more likely to have harems (whether the chieftain is male or female, by the way) since that's something alphas do, but it's perfectly accepted for a chieftain to pair-bond, too. All these combinations (with any mix of genders) are accepted in a very matter-of-fact way by most other aslaran.

Gwylifar himself, however, is one who only pair-bonds. So this wouldn't benefit or affect him directly. I just think it'd be sensible for everyone else to have the choice for the benefit of roleplay. Not even all humans are monogamous, after all, and it makes sense that with the variety of races and cultures we have, some might have cultures that don't exclusively practice monogamy.

But to add one last wrinkle, Gwylifar's wife has not logged in in about six game years, and he now has a new love. He's still not sure if this means he's not really a pair-bond type after all. (He is, but he doesn't know that for sure right now; he hasn't really grieved the loss of his first wife properly because of the lack of closure of her departure.) So if there were such an option he might avail himself of it someday, but he'd still only have one active spouse at a time. More likely, though, he wouldn't, because by the time the question comes up, he'll probably have worked through his grief over his first wife and be ready to let go of his bond to her.

(Incidentally, this points up one of the problems in the divorce honors line; if Gwylifar ever uses it, he won't be divorced, he'll be essentially widowed, but the honors line won't show that. I really don't see the point of that line at all.)

I think marriage is fun! I don't really get too emotionally attached to the person, so it's all in fun. This is the first time one of my characters has ever been married...because in Achaea my character had about 20 fiances. But I decided that Veo would get married. And in defense of my getting engaged so quickly after meeting someone, with Gerald being my child, I had to be pregnant with him at age 14 or 15, so I had to have known Kaervas then.

Apparently I am intemidating and cold... who knew?

I love Gwylifar's long, specific and detailed explanation for basically.. why he deserves a harem.
