You can't have one, Amaru. Sorry.

Boy, you buy them books and they just eat the covers.

QUOTE(Gwylifar @ Jun 6 2005, 07:01 AM)
But to add one last wrinkle, Gwylifar's wife has not logged in in about six game years, and he now has a new love. He's still not sure if this means he's not really a pair-bond type after all. (He is, but he doesn't know that for sure right now; he hasn't really grieved the loss of his first wife properly because of the lack of closure of her departure.) So if there were such an option he might avail himself of it someday, but he'd still only have one active spouse at a time. More likely, though, he wouldn't, because by the time the question comes up, he'll probably have worked through his grief over his first wife and be ready to let go of his bond to her.
(Incidentally, this points up one of the problems in the divorce honors line; if Gwylifar ever uses it, he won't be divorced, he'll be essentially widowed, but the honors line won't show that. I really don't see the point of that line at all.)
You didn't really want to know any of that, did you?

I love Gwylifar's long, specific and detailed explanation for basically.. why he deserves a harem.

What part of that line didn't sink in puppy? *grin at Amaru*

Many years ago, I tried role-playing the MUD pair-bonding thing.
The first time was as a result of some very interesting short-term role-play, but the lady turned out to be a total flake, and it ended badly.
The second time was exactly the opposite: a relationship spread out over the course of many months with a lady who grew to be one of my closest OOC friends ever, with the two characters growing so closely intertwined that when the other player chased her career out to a remote location bereft of internet, I couldn't imagine playing him without her and let them sail off into the sunset together.
Then there was the lady who wanted the monogamous relationship so desperately that, feeling it was close enough she could taste it, went OOC to assert she was more important to me than my RL wife -- while my wife was standing there reading the rant over my shoulder, no less.
I never want to duplicate the flake incident. I'm not in a hurry to corner myself into retiring my next favorite character when someone else drifts away again. And that last incident absolutely cemented the rules of my household: no role-playing MUD monogamy. Ever.
Which oddly enough has not resulted in my playing asexual characters, but rather in my exclusively playing polyamorous ladies' men. My wife actually gets a kick out of hearing the exploits of my roguish characters. And as long as I'm roleplaying complex, multi-woman relationships, it tends to scare away the ones who might try to overstep their OOC bounds. And those it doesn't scare away can't focus their jealousies OOC until they approach monogamy IC, which just doesn't happen anymore.
I've got the faerie tale romance offline, anyway, and I hardly need to rehash that in a MUD relationship.
For these and many more reasons, I personally think that MUD marriage stinks. Keeping a virtual harem's much more fulfilling.

I havn't read anything before my post but I heard something interesting on NPR.
This person is researching how marriage use to be, and mentioned, in a mocking fashion how in the 1790's the conservatives were saying that getting married for love is going to ruin marriage. Divorce rates will go up, and it will open the way for same sex marriage, Men would not be dominant in the house anymore and the concept of family would fall apart. The host and person quoting this then laughed saying "Well we've heard those arguments before"
What I found ironic about that, was that the old people from the 1790's were right. Doesn't matter if we think the changes are good, they were correct about the changes even if we may dissagree with the value judgements they made back then.

Yer right. Marriage is a joke the way it is now. Arranged marriages kept so many places breeding for the purposes of heirs. If it were up to love back in the old days (centuries ago), we might not have been so overpopulated nowadays.
Daganev2005-06-07 10:10:45
Huh? It wasn't untill modern times where a single person would be able to provide enough resources for himself and his family, it use to take multiple people to be able to produce enough to feed one person.
Aebrin2005-06-07 12:39:26
See the prob with me and Aebrin...
I'm not ashamed to admit it, but having mud sex is a bit... squeamish for me. I think it may be me as a younger player.
Now being me as Aebrin, he feels the same way.
In a marriage, Aebrin would be looking for just a friendlike person but to a much deeper relationship - willing to share secrets, willing to do a lot of stuff normal friends won't do - bar *ugh ugh oh yeah baby*
Is this viable in a Lusternian marriage?

Yes. It is. You just need to find a more mature partner. Rather than someone who's only in it for the

I don't think I qualify as a younger player and I have no interest in Ugh Ugh MUDsex either.
Call me a prude but chat sex holds no thrill for me. If I wanted that sort of artificial stimulation the internet holds far more graphic alternatives. I'm all for RP Romance but leave grunting at the door.
Ashteru2005-06-07 13:45:03
Yeah, Mudsex isn't hot or anything, I don't get turned on or whatever. I wouldn't do it anymore, and I only did it because I was asked to. *shrug*
Joli2005-06-07 14:03:26
ooers on the "ugh ugh" bit.. I'm not commenting there, because I dun wanna think about it. I dunno, I like to find out the age of the character mine is trying to marry, just because it bothers me when I'm acting like a mom to my husband or vice versa. I've had an ooc relationship like that.. and it sucks arse... It's like babysitting, more then a relationship. I'd prefer the person be around my age or at least a little bit older, so I don't have to deal with that.
Not that I don't want lots of sons and daughters in game, it's just that I can several of those, but I can only have one husband and I at least want someone who's attracted to me in a romantic way (not necasarrily in the mudsexxor way, but their needs to be -something- there)

Just felt like pointing out that there's far more graphic alternatives to Lusternia as well, but still you hold that game as fun and exciting...
Manjanaia2005-06-07 20:37:37
Yeah MUDsex would do nothing for me at all. What's the point?

Point Angel. However, I must note I wouldn't take sexual gratification from World of Warcraft either.

Change that to just mud sex and we're talking a whole other topic.

Well I'm not a Divine commenting on the mud sex part.. More a divine when it comes to the mud sex part. *rimshot*
Sorry.
Anyhow, my thoughts on the matter.. RP is as RP does.. Nothing wrong with mudsex, but it shouldn't just be. "Hi, I'm Vis." "Hi, I'm (female)". "Cool, let's go boink in my manse!". It should be something that comes after a looong RP buildup and not just spur of the moment.

-eye- someone has confidence..
hee.. I can't help but snicker at that.
Yup, people that do that kinda thing are icky. Strange thing is I've had girls (do I need to say who?) try and do that with Joli after meeting her. I'm very happy furrikins can roll by icewalls... -cringe-
But anyway.. yeah.. It should only be done after lots of rping and ect, or else you'll be branded a mud ho. (Don't say a word mister.. and you know who you are..-eye-)
