Tiny choke alteration

Let OOC commands, tells, says, LOOK, and things like changing targets count as actions that don't be choked? You know, like you can do LOOK etc. while gateweaving, and read help files while asleep, but if you try LOOK in choke you still get the shadowy delay, and as I'm sure things like this don't affect combat much it would just help a li'l.
Narsrim2005-06-08 14:21:00
Considering that you are being slowed by /shadows/, I think it makes sense that one could not quickly gain information about his or her surroundings. The delay seems logical to me.
Erion2005-06-08 14:29:58
And the effort involved in coding that wouldn't be worth it. And tells, etc, are SUPPOSED to be IC.

But if you're able to see, I dont see how sight would be impacted by a time delay, unless the shadows delayed the signal from your eyes to your brain.
Erion2005-06-09 04:04:31
How well can you discern things when you turn your bedroom nights off, in the middle of the night?

From daylight to darkness.
Shiri2005-06-09 04:09:42
Then there would be delays on -receiving- messages that are purely visual, as well. (The crone crossing her arms and staring at you, etc.) It doesn't really make sense. :/
Unknown2005-06-09 04:12:25
Retardation has never made perfect sense, but it's a good mechanic, and it's not like much else in the game makes perfect sense either wink.gif I think it's fine and not something that the admin need to spend their time on.
Shiri2005-06-09 04:52:56
Yeah, it's not so much that it would make sense (that's just a counter for a reason against it being saying that it wouldn't make sense), more that it would be handy, for example when someone serpented drops choke or whatever at the middle of Etherwilde, apart from in regular combat. You can do these things when gateweaving etc., so it has precedent, and it would just be a fix to remove obnoxiousness. Setting targets I'm particularly annoyed about being choked, since that makes -no- sense, but I gather that most people do their targetting clientside so it won't affect them.
Daganev2005-06-09 04:56:29
alias and variable settings shouldn't be affected by anything I think.

However, looking and other such things have a great affect on combat, especially if you don't know the exits to the room.
Elryn2005-06-09 06:51:18
I would like either casting choke or ordering fae to drop serpent, but thats just because I have to fight against it.

The only change to choke itself that I would like to see is that it reduces the attack speed of loyals/demesnes. In choke you effectively can't heal, so afflicting via angel/demon/fae/demesne is a great strategy, but I don't think it should be quite as deadly as it is.

If all the people are slowed, then so too would be creatures, and lashing vines squirrels and whatnot.
Erion2005-06-09 12:38:55
TUMBLE . Just as you serens have always been screaming. Can't stand the demesne, get out of the forest. Can't stand the choke? Get out of the room. Or have it triggered so when he drops his cauldron, you pick it up. tongue.gif
Shorlen2005-06-09 18:25:26
I just wish typos didn't trigger Choke =\\ I hate mistyping an alias and having to wait while shadows drag at my inept typing fingers before the MUD spits back, "What the heck are you trying to do?!" or whatnot.

And Erion, when Choke/Serpent is being used to attack people who are standing somewhere they SHOULD be safe, like the Mother, it annoys me. A lot. I wish guards attacked the loyals of commune enemies =\\ That would solve the problem nicely.
Erion2005-06-09 18:34:07
Shrug. How many times has Narsrim used Serpent to empty out Angkrag, and walk right out the door?
Sylphas2005-06-09 18:40:21
Choke just needs to drop Serpent. There's no real way to argue that it's not an aggressive action.

About the typos, it would be nice if Lusternia checked syntax and all, then applied choke, instead of the other way around.

And how many times has Daevos done that to Rockholm when we held it? =\\ The skill is just dumb and overpowered. In Achaea, being a trans metamorphosis Sentinel, I could "morph nightingale;sing melody" (raises prismatic barrier, ANYTHING you do will drop it, except look) every time I entered a room and could use that to get nearly anywhere or escape any conflict. I thought it was overpowered there, and I think it's overpowered here. Even if it's much more expensive here, it doesn't go down the second you do something else, and when it does go down, it just comes back up, thus making it an overpowered OFFENSIVE skill instead of an overpowered DEFENSIVE skill. The ONLY defence against it takes too long (trying to strip it with spring).

Meh.

Everything should drop serpent. Picking your nose should drop serpent. This isn't Doom - there should be no god mode hack.

I had nightingale too. It sucked. You could get in somewhere, but what were you going to do? If someone hits you, prismatic is worthless since you have to drop it to heal or cure.

sing melody (wait for elixir balance) drink health;sing melody - repeat. Worked well enough for me... but that was while bashing - never really did much PvP in Achaea. I sucked too much, and had no system wink.gif
Sylphas2005-06-09 19:21:47
Prismatic barrier didn't stop most non-physical attacks. Hell, I could incinerate through it. So evileye etc would still own you badly.
Terenas2005-06-09 19:21:48
I particularly like the idea of Choke halving all faes in the room. God know it's impossible for a knight to fight in Choke since our attacks are double commands. Like Retardation had an adverse effects on vibes in other IRE games, Choke shouldn't affects just players, it should do the same to faes at least. Demesne is a bit iffy since they're not really mobs, but Choke should at least slow down faes too.
