New demense effects.

An aquamancer and a geomancer fight. Aquamancer floods, geomancer taints, aquamancer floods, geomancer taints... bleh.

First idea- When you taint a flood room, it becomes a "mud" type of area, a dirty whirlpool, what have you. Neither side can meld it. Similiar effect with different messages when Hartstone and Blacktalon or Hartstone and Geomancer etc. go up against each other. I think this is really needed.

Second idea- Currently there is not to my knowledge any difference between forcetaint and normal taint. Both take 1 power, both take 4 seconds of eq. One undoes another type however. I suggest that forcetaint take 2 power, but taint all adjacent rooms (assuming it can be) as well as the current room. Meld could similiarly meld the current room and all adjacent rooms. Before someone starts to post their "omg imba" response, the purpose of this change is it could allow for downgrades in other aspects of mageness.

Third idea- Demense summon and wisp become avoidable more easily. When it doesn't take the Mage 15 minutes to get their demense running, you can justify making it harder for them to summon people.

Fourth idea- Boost mage offense outside of demense, to make up for how they'll be less likely to be using them against other mages/in group combat.

Did you go Geomancer again?

I have this strong feeling you're screaming "nerf" because you're going up against mages, or are one, and wanting an easy way to avoid wisp/poorely keep an enemy from melding the area.

Think that, when they taint, they just dry all the water up. No mud. Dry, cracked wasteland.
Erion2005-06-09 05:07:48
and forceforest foresting current room and all nearby rooms is rediculous. 2 power, instead of, what, 12 power (tops possible - 8 cardinal directions, in/out/up/down)?

No.

Well, there's some upgrades and some downgrades suggested at the same time. It really doesn't effect me currently, I just think mage dependence on demense, leading to two mages constantly doing the counter moves over and over, is lame.
Erion2005-06-09 05:13:11
Demesne-dependancy was the entire POINT of mages in Lusternia.

Leave our wisp alone, it isn't a Druid function.
Erion2005-06-09 05:14:53
Let me rephrase that. The idea is for a mage/druid to be able to set up a large demesne, effectively protecting a place like an area-wide grove. Mages are a hot commodity because of demesne-wars.

And they're rarer than an Igasho guardian.

You're kind of contradicting yourself here, not sure if you realize it though...

Considering Mages have 2 entire skillsets aside from their Specialization (which in fact only makes up for half of their Elementalism) I think they are fine as it is. Knights have only Knighthood and the third chosen specialization as their offensive as well, since Athletics has about one offensive ability in the skillset.
Shiri2005-06-09 05:53:23
The difference being that you can't deprive a warrior of his weapons (without some extremely evil crap), but you can fight a mage out of demesne. (In theory. Hah.)
Shamarah2005-06-09 11:04:28
There's no point in boosting mage offense outside of demesnes unless you're going to get rid of demesnes altogether, because mage offense inside demesnes will always be superior and there'll still be no reason for a mage to fight outside of one.
Unknown2005-06-09 17:06:27
This change would force a mage to either fight outside of one or run away a fair amount of the time though.
