Heh, I'm glad you've found a place in Lusternia that makes you feel welcome. If only we had more thankful members...
If only we had more members in general...
If only we had more members in general...

The pretty shiny stuff, Erion?

This thread almost makes me want to move to Glomdoring, if it wasn't the other 3 or 4 threads saying otherwise.

No! Come, Terenas. You know you want to!
Give us some more god forsaken fighters!

think about the sources of the other threads

You know, I think this is a big problem with a lot of organizations in IRE, and its good to hear something like this.
I remember being a novice in Achaea especially and just seeing no road up to acceptance or recognition within my city. When I came to Lusternia in Serenwilde it was better, but I get the sense only because it was smaller and there wasn't such a division between the serious and non-serious players as in achaea (read: creditwhores)
When the Shadowdancers were young, I remember sitting in on the initiation of three novices. One of them was Umbrawn, I think the other two were random novs who never touched Lusternia again. Morrigana explained some 'dancer culture and decreed them a coterie, and that in 24 IG days they must be 21st circle, with two mana and one health vial. If they all did so, they would be advanced, if any failed, they would all be outguilded.
Unfeasable as it was, Umbrawn pulled it off. Again, the other novices gave it a brief shot and disappeared. Morrigana was pretty convincing, even if she wouldn't have outguilded them, as we later found out. Umbrawn turned out to be worth keeping anyhow
My point was, that was the Guild inducting the novices in a meaningful way. It made them, I would imagine, feel like real initiates in a real fantasy orgnaization. It made it seem like the guild higherups weren't just question answering people with fancy titles and lots of power, but real officers of sorts. The immersion, the depth, all of them were in part brought about by this more than "This is how you use your skills, now go!" approach that's all too common, eve if RP is weaved in.
Bring the new members into the fold, be they novices or converts! Even if all of them aren't overtly thankful, and its good to see that some are, it really does mean something and it would go a long way to increasing the percentage of novices we actually keep.

Erion used to scream at his fae through the whole thing. He'd try to get through an induction, and just begin screaming, claiming his brownie was talking trash about him. Every novice walked away with a dead fae.

Abomination to Moon, Erion the Faeslayer booms, "To sylph did I ask you to speak up!? DID I!?!?"
.....or, something like that.

Erion2005-06-10 14:05:02
Yea. I can't wait to finish this RP
It'll be full of psychotic episodes with his Fae, which may very well be the death of him.
But it was more like,
Abomination to Moon, Erion the Faeslayer screams, "WHAT WAS THAT?! YOU FILTHY WHORE! TRAITOR! MOON-LOYALIST! WHY CAN'T YOU SERVE NIGHT?! BASTARDS!" Followed closely by killing it.
And scaring novices.
As to Morrigana, we often threatened novices with succeed-or-be-ousted. We all knew we wouldn't oust, but the threat did push a few to succeed.

I couldn't agree with you more... that whole post in general was pretty inspiring.
This thread was started with Glomdoring as it's base but other communities should
take the advice and use it as well to improve Lusternia as a whole.

One of the problems of properly introducing novices is that it just takes ages. I know I frequently spend one hour minimum, even two and more, only giving novices their basic teaching, answering questions and all that. I simply can't do that more than once a month. Seeing as I'm not a novice aide right now it's fortunately nothing I need to worry about...
But never the less: Woot for finding a guild that'll treat you properly! Go Glomdoring!
