its hard to say, because everything is written from the perspective of individuals and theres not one source. I know the Starks viewed them as seperate gods and the followers of the Red Lady viewed them as one god, I don't remember what king landing's people thought.

The Starks worshipped the old gods. The Tully's (Catelyn's family) worship the new gods (the 7 aspects).
"The Seven Gods are served by the Septons and Septas of Westeros, who preach that the Seven are one god with seven aspects: Father, Mother, Maid, Smith, Warrior, Crone, and Stranger. The Father is stern, watching and judging, the Mother is kind, protecting wives and mothers, the Maid is beautiful and watches over young women, the Smith builds, constructs, and repairs, watching over craftsmen, the Warrior guards and aids those in battle, the Crone is wise and lights the way, showing the correct path, while the Stranger's face is the face of death. Most of the southron (those who live in the south of Westeros) worship the Seven.
The Old Gods are nameless. They were worshipped by the First Men before the Andals came, and the children of the forest before them. Most in the north still hold to them. They are the gods of green earth, of wind and rain and growing things. The sacred heart trees, giant white weirwoods with carved faces, are held sacred, and all great houses keep a godswood to honor the old gods, even in the south. The Maesters of the Citadel hold that a very few who follow the old gods may hold some part of the secret knowledge of the children of the forest. Note that heart trees are more common in the north, while septs abound in the south.
In addition, most of the Ironborn follow the Drowned God, the god of salt and iron, who was drowned and rose again from the sea."

ARG. DEATH TO MARTIN.
That depresses me. How many years have we been waiting, when they keep pushing the publishing date back, only to find out fatty couldn't fit in everything he wanted?
He's getting up there on my list with Robert "Dangling Plot-Threads" Jordan.

I read the first Jordan book. Didn't like it much (and it took me a month - that shows how 'into it' I was).

The book is coming out in July. Martin had to remove some chapters from Feast for Crows and move them into the next book, A Dance with Dragons, but I think we covered this in previous posts.

9 out of 10 Fains agree - Daganev's bookstore is retarded. (Insert picture of a squirrel climbing up Fain's leg and biting into a...well..nut here - followed by a loud "NOOOO").
I miss those Dentyne commercials. >.>

What I like, is that while I have favorite characters (some with POV, some without), Martin's level of writing has been rather good throughout so far.

See, that irritated the hell out of me. I just went through and read all of Jon's, then all of Arya's, then Sansa's, etc down to some of my least favourite/distant characters - Danny and the Onion Knight were always last, because I just didn't get into him, and she was kind of an entire different story, that will one day converge with the "main" one.

I read it as it's written, and just got Storm of Swords in the mail today! Unfortunately, I accidentally bought the paperback instead of the mass market paperback (smaller, 'normal sized' book - I like that size better). So I'll buy the mass market and give the larger one to a buddy as an impromptu gift .
