The purpose is what is called a "vocal minority." (e.g., Amaru) Look at the overall replies on this thread (and any thread regarding Lichdom) and try to tell me it's not the case.
We get it Amaru. You don't like Lichdom, and think no side should have unique abilities different from other sides (oh, except for Trueheal). Put it in your envoy report and stop spamming the boards every few weeks with your newest rant about Lichdom.

I was thinking the same thing, but it'd be an obvious issue.

All I am doing is making people aware of the reason for this:
***********************CURRENT POLITICS IN LUSTERNIA***********************

Nokraenom, if you think that... don't read my threads. I very rarely make any.
Edit: The vitae idea is stupid, but any idea which avoids downgrading necromancy is preferable.

Maybe, instead of thinking about Lichdom, you should ask people's dedication on getting those villages. I don't see any Aquamancers doing a 16 hour sit in to hold a demesne in a village to win it.
Amaru2005-06-11 21:30:49
Unfortunately that isn't something I can change. You couldn't say I don't do enough for Celest.

So, in order to make up for the inequality in dedication between Celestians and Magnagorans, game balance should be skewed in favor of Celestians. I continue to be impressed by your displays of logic, Amaru.
Two words: Envoy report.

If the forces are close to equally matched during group combat, eye sigils could be used to stop liches from getting away. It would require some good coordination and the destruction of the other forces possible enchanters first though. I am not saying it would easily work, but it is possible. There is also the problem that Celest and Magnagora forces are rarely equally matched…
There probably needs to be a written group combat procedures document that states what each type of combatant does. An example could be “Immobilizer: Your purpose is to hinder the actions of the primary target. You will use webbing, paralysis, stun, or any other action that will keep the primary target from functioning in a normal manner.†Then when it is time to lead a group into combat, the leader of the group could rattle off who is what type of combatant and the combatant could easily read the document to tell what his or her job function is.

Yeah I know. But in that particular case it was a weekend.

No Nokraenom...
What I am saying, in simple terms for you, is that game balance is tilted in favour of Magnagora on the big scale (villages, politics rather than individual combat) and it shouldn't be.

I would seriously stop playing if that happened  It makes no sense, and having one side moving around as spirits/ghosts is interesting, having the entire game do it would just be retarded.

According to Amaru, Glomdoring can be raided because they're weak, but Celest isn't as weak and is raided because Lichdom is overpowered. But Celest is deffinitely weak, and sets themselves against the strongest in the game, so I think it's pretty obvious what's going on here.
That said, I've long wished I was a Celestian and the thought of dealing with lichdom doesn't worry me since eye is at like skilled rank in enchantments and inquisition strips it .
EDIT: Wait, it's more my expert or virt, my bad.

Silvanus2005-06-11 21:36:16
Ok then? That is because Magnagora has far more dedication, more fighters, more capable fighters, and generally less dissent.
Erion2005-06-11 21:37:37
So let's nerf the Magnagoran player-base, and we'll be good.

Glomdoring doesn't have lich. Totally irrelevant. The reason Glomdoring loses everything is because they are weak. The reason Celest loses everything is less to do with weakness, though it is a factor.
Don't think of this in terms of 'Celest loses whine whine'. It's more of an analysis of why Magnagora wins than why Celest loses. Note that nowhere have I said 'it's unfair'. I'm just pointing this out, so people can understand, and hoping for a change.

It's better to nerf Lichdom. It will probably won't change much, so there will be something else to nerf. And then yet another thing.
When Magnagora is weak enough, more fighters will come to Celest and Celest will start to own Magnagora with their awfully overpowered skills (relatively, after all the nerfing).

Look, here's a simple showing of how much lich affects combat:
Let's say Thorgal was killing turtles in the Inner Sea, is attacked by a group, dies, and has lichseed up (which anyone with one-eighth of a brain would). Thorgal now has 30 seconds to get away - and don't even think of bringing up eye sigils, because we're hardly going to eye sigil the world. He can easily make it far, far away and probably quite close to Mag - and, as he is a tarot Nihilist, upon reforming he can use hermit, and since he'll be smart and go to a room with no monolith, there'll be no chance of stopping it from happening. Thus, Thorgal gets away with 0% experience loss, despite the fact that he was in enemy territory, and a slight loss of power.
Now, let's take Amaru killing seawolves in the Sea of Despair. Amaru is attacked by a group, dies, and vitaes. The people who killed him dropped a monolith, so he isn't able to hermit out. He tries to run away, but because he isn't a soul and he can be watched and attacked, he is hunted and killed. Because he is in enemy territory, he loses 60% experience and a slight bit of power.
And to the Magnagorans who think Lich shouldn't be downgraded: out of the last 10 times you died, how many of those times have you lost experience? Because I lose it every time I die.

Replace lichdom touch by a decent offensive skill, like radiance for example, and only make it possible to enable lichseed at night. That way you're basically as safe from raids as we are.
Erion2005-06-11 21:47:59
Pfft. Celest has insanely awesome skillz, just no one to use them well (minus a few). So let's nerf the Magnagoran playerbase (What? YOU DARKCALL BECKONED?! FIVE RL YEARS SHRUBBING AND IP BAN!! What? You STARCALL BECKONED? Alright. You shouldn't do that). Yea, teh winz.
