Outside the Basin

I'm just wondering what is outside the Basin. Is there anything there, what happened to it? I think the histories say that it got ravaged by the Elder wars or Soulless wars or something, but I don't quite understand. Is there anything there? If you got through the mountains, what would you find? Is there any plans to expand into it, or is any future development with regards to new lands going to be off-plane?

Also while I'm at it, what happened to Ackleberry? I don't understand that either. I mean, you can walk past it, but you can't go in it. I can see it. Is it there? Didn't they remove themselves or something?

See, now you're opening two different topics.

To the question of "what is outside of the Basin", I assume there's a whole world out there, just that exploration hasn't gone very far, and it was ravaged by the soulless as well.

Perhaps we'll have some off continent things sometime. I actually was going to submit a plan for an off-continent archepellego for some fun exploring/questing.

We shall see!

Outside of the Basin is death. An endless and barren wasteland where no being can survive... the waters are acid, sulfur springs expand everywhere, the climate is berserk bursting with thunder and fire at every corner, brimstone and fire raining from the skies, so intense that your hole body would ignite instants before it rained on you... What is beyond the Basin? Nothing, nothing that you'd really desire to know...

You are safe inside the Basin, stay in there and enjoy Life.

Edit: Also rumour has it that spectres, ghouls and other ghaslty apparitions roam the emptiness that lies beyond the Basin. All creatures doomed from the begining of time, with sorrow so great that upon hearing their cry you'd be ravaged with madness, your identity would be splintered into shards so miniscule that you'd encouter yourself with a jig-saw puzzle that you'd never be able to complete.

Ah, also, it is believed that the malice of the trapped Soulless has found paradise in this place of decadence, where their will is manfested into beings of so much evil, that a single stare into their eyes would render you cold, and a touch of them would wither you like a once beautiful rose, just as the scorching sun decides to give it a gentle caress...

Where'd you dig that up from?! tongue.gif Thanks as well.

Have you ever seen The Village? If not, go see it. Because that's how I'd like to view the Basin of Life. Your perfect secluded world apart from things you would just like to forget... And what better way to keep things inside that safe circle from wandering out? By instilling fear in them of every leaving. And I dunno, but Lusternia is pretty much apocaliptic for me, so it would just make if we finally realize that hey... The Basin of Life is actually the only place capable of sustaining life, because outside, outside it's all destroyed (enter here Planet of the Apes- original, I liked it's ending).

Nope never seen the Village. Nor the origanal Planet of the Apes.

Desdemona's got it down pat.

As to Ackleberry, they basically hid themselves beyond existance. They said "OMGWTFBBQ SOULLESS" and realized "OHSHITE,GLORIANAISDEADOMGOMGOMOGMGOMGOMGOGM" so they said "Well, letsdissapearkkkkkkkkwhere'sthesleepingpills?" And went into...

Hmm, here's a better way to look at it. They had their bodies and forest cryogenically frozen. They may or may not be able to be defrosted.

Ever seen Final Fantasy: Spirits Within?
Manjanaia2005-06-15 19:05:11
...no

I think this should get moved to the "fan fiction" part of the... wait, we don't have one.

Where the HELL have you been, kid?

It basically was this. Cities had force-field-esque things around them, because these ghosts were wandering the world and killing anything alive, and couldn't die. Go see it. It was a good movie. happy.gif It ended up this world was destroyed, and these were all ghosts from it's gaia, which crashed into Earth, and so these things just wandered around. They could push their polluted ghost into a body, and "infest" them - they had to be destroyed quickly, or the person was doomed.

It was really cool, and I can see the parrallel between Lusternia/Spirits Within - right down to the Seven Spirits/Seals.

It was a terrible movie due to the fact we all thought there would be swords/magic/familiar themes we'd been seeeing for years throughout all the FF games.

But yeah, there are some interesting parallels.

I know. I kind of meant it more like (Seven Spirits)/(Nine Seals). I just ignored the "nine". I was at work, so nyah.

Still, the resemblance is there. Seven/Nine Spirits/Seals, used to destroy/imprison this tortured beast. And one is another planet's gaia, kind of undead and come back as a ghostie, the other is a failed attempt at a god, both are bent on destruction of the living.
Gwylifar2005-06-15 23:14:21
I don't know the specific story in question, but... not to be a fuddy-duddy or anything, but those themes can be found in scores of myths, including many that people seriously believe in. I'm sure Campbell has a whole chapter for them.
