I don't think the RP board should have IC roleplay in it... Rather make it a place where the current RP and/or possible future RP could be duscussed and commented on... I kind of like to know what other people think of my RP, even though for a while now I've just been kickin back doin nothing...
Richter2005-06-21 22:10:37
That's fine, I'll go for that.

I've asked a number of times for stuff like family members, and I'm still looking for a nemesis.

I think having an RP board based on Lusternia but Seperate from the MU world of it would be wonderful especially since some of us happen to enjoy FORUM STYLE RPing quite a bit.

It would give people who are suffering a bit of downtime like sleeping, or real-life computer work and have a moment or two for a break to do something Lusternia RP related, but do not have the time to log on.

Also it would sate the fact that I end up spending most of my Lusternia time leveling since really, no one does much beyond discuss current events.

That's just my opinion, and worst comes to worst, someone goes and makes an RP Board that's based on Lusternia.

This was one of my original points. It makes sense for those who might be at work, such as myself now, and can't log-on to play because I can't download the necessary Java-aplet to a company computer.

Oh Richter, and if you blatantly mix OOC in with IC of course it is hard to distinguish between the two. Your point is moot simply on the basis that you are doing it on purpose. Most people have enough sense to label their comments as OOC when in a IC thread. Those that don't are generally rejected and ignored. And of course, what happens on a board has no direct bearing on what happens in game, but that is why it is an advantage. If people can practice their RPing skills in a forum they are more likely to succeed as a RPer in-game. Been there, done that. You aren't the only person who has had experience with forums my friend. As I recall they released the internet over 10 years ago.

In any case, I still think it is a good idea, and am glad to see at least a few people agree with me.
Richter2005-06-22 07:09:22
Well, it doesn't matter if I'm right, or you're wrong, it's not going to happen.

I'll bet you my city on that.

Anyone ever tell you that you've got negativity issues? The emphasis was never on who is right or wrong. I could care less. I merely wanted to stimulate some activity on the issue.

It won't happen eh? Reminds me of the time my first grade teacher told me I couldn't be a hero as a profession. I'm still scarred from that little foray. Or maybe the time when people said, "America will never be it's own nation." Guess they were right, cuz I sure like living in the British colony of Arizona. It's wonderful!

I put vote for an RP board as well actualy. It'll definatly need to be completely seperate from the main game, perhaps set it up as an alternative reality (shot in the air: what if, instead of some of the nexuses in Prime being tainted, every plane above it was, from the Fae in Ethereal all up to Astral and beyond: No Mag or Glom but all who used the planes risked conversion instead). If enough people want it, then let's go for it: in fact, I bet some people who dislike playing the mud would love to join the story in forum-mode instead. Of course, since it has no link to Lusternia itself, those that don't want to join in won't feel like they have to either.

What's so bad about that?
Saikado2005-06-22 15:43:10
Exactly Cwin! And...It would focus more on Role playing skill instead of -gasp- BASHING THE HELL out of anything that moves to advance!!!

Negativity? On the forums, yes. In all reality, I'm a nice guy, but I've seen so many stupid posts/worthless posts, that everytime I disagree on something, I jump on the person's post, point out the flaws, and laugh at it.

I've been doing it for about a year, check out where Terentia and I made fun of everyone on the msn boards for stuff.

Anyway. Telling you an RP forum board won't happen isn't going to scar you for life. And if you recognize that you were hurt in first grade, I'm sure at this age, you can deal with it, move on, and recognize that you can be a hero, dispite what the teacher told you. And sure people said American will never be its own nation. Then we had a good number of smart people get together and declare independence, we had a jolly good war, etc. If you'd like to get together Lusternia's leading minds, and declare war on IRE, be my gust.

What it boils down to, again, is that there is a defined line between IC and OOC, between in game, and out of game. The forum has no place within the actual game, because it is OOC, and OOG. If we made a part of the forum IC, it would still be OOC, because we'd have to constantly refer to the website. I don't even refer peolpe to the map of my manse on the forums, in game, because it is Out Of Character.

We also have to remember, this is not your typical MUD. It is RP Enforced, not wishy-washy mediocre MUD-run-from-someone's basement. Lusternia.com, port 23, is the boundary that we have set for us to play this game. The forums are where we complain and give ideas.

And I don't mean to come off as a jerk, I just tend to rip apart ideas that I think I see flaws in.
Akraasiel2005-06-22 18:17:50
Actually, Richter, it's advertized as Roleplay Encouraged, not Roleplay Enforced. All they do is enforce breaks from the game world. Always staying consistant to the game world isnt exactly roleplaying, you know?
Saikado2005-06-22 18:21:00
I don't count wandering around, killing stuff and performing quests as Role Playing, you aren't directly interacting, creating a story with others...You're just killing PICKLED BEETS and following pre-programmed prompts.
Richter2005-06-22 18:25:13
You're also immersing yourself in a fantasy world.
Saikado2005-06-22 18:27:01
=\\ yea, except for the fact that without real interaction the immersion kind of flops.

Achaea was RP encouraged/enforced and honestly...I couldn't convince anyone to sit down and interact because they wanted to advance and get to lvl 100 as quickly as possible..

I'd like to have something like that too. At least to read about other peoples RP, that's as good as rping myself.^^

Richter, my good fellow, you've completely misunderstood my previous post. I was being quite sarcastic. Although, everything I mentioned did actually happen. But I was not implying that I would--in any way--be scarred by being refused what I thought was an excellent idea. That would be very childish of me; besides I'm a grown man, I've got better things to do than lose sleep over something that happened on a website. However, I would still like to see the idea come into fruitation simply because my job is boring, and I could use the entertainment. I tell you what: I'll put up a poll and we'll see in the "yay's" outweigh the "nay's".

The poll has been posted. Please do go by there and place your ballot. You may do so by clicking here.
