Because dying with no xp-loss would actually encourage more people to participate instead of walk around influencing BAM DEAD YOU LOSE 50 HOURS WORTH OF WORK BECAUSE YOU SUCK and thus that person leaves due to extraneous stress over such a dumb thing as losing a ton of XP for something that shouldn't be combat heavy in the first place.
Ditch the XP loss, but still make it so they have to pray and take time to get back into battle. This would fix ALOT of things. Try it and see. And if it doesn't work? CHange it back. It's that simple.

Hate to argue with you, Estarra but I have never known anyone who didn't enjoy CTFs, which were no exp lost events that lasted about 2 hours.
Village influencing isn't some namby, wimpy CTF game!
It's serious, deadly business!
Murphy2005-06-16 23:45:36
I agree CTFs were an incredible amount of fun in achaea.
Grook monks were a lot of fun then, so were holobombs

Players always want no EXP loss, but it quickly starts to seem lame. I really hope they don't add in conglutination or no exp loss in an uninfluenced village, it would make no sense in the long run and I wouldn't like it.
Murphy2005-06-16 23:46:52
anyway this isn't achaea.
Losing xp seems to be the big ajor factor. Perhaps not losing anything to praying during influence would be a good idea

We will be adding conglutinating as posted in the other thread.

It should be like CTFs. Influencing should be an aspect of Lusternia that attracts people and encourages them to participate. The heavy xp-loss and the fact that demesnes are too overwhelming a factor in influencing derails from the goal, and draws people -away- from it.

Sanctuary is where no one can be attacked in that room and provides some non-PK tactics to use during village influencing. How's that compare to dying with no xp loss?
140008
It can't be a bloodbath, because anyone who doesn't want to fight can just stick up a sanctuary. Did I miss something..?

We're probably missing each other's points and I'm too tired to figure it out with some witty response.
Anyway, we've made our decisions and we'll see how they work out.

I believe the point which everyone is forgetting is that Estarra wanted pk free villages for those who are not pk oriented (Correct me if I am wrong) Even if you make it so you lose no experience or congulated(?) dying over and over again does wear on you after you do it so many times. The Pk free village is for those who this affects more.

People in Imperian (5% exp loss upon death) get just as pissed off as people in aetolia (40% exp loss upon death) if not more so. It's all relative, tweaking the amount lost will make people happy in the short run but not much else.
Unknown2005-06-17 00:07:57
You should throw a village or two up to test them! Or do it on the test server. *sagenod*

There may be some truth to that because over time we have drastically cut XP loss across the board since opening...

Sure, regaining 40% is obviously not different than regaining 5%... just a few hours of bashing instead of half an hour...

If the change is from, let's say 80% to 40%, maybe so. But 5% is too little to be really concerned about.
Amaru2005-06-17 00:20:55
Hah, if this is a matter of Aetolia and Imperian - I think we'd all rather be like Imperian. Keep the low exp loss.

Heh. Problem is, there're like 5 people on the test server at most.
