In practice, I don't think this really balances things out. I know in large groups, I end up getting a ton more kills than average because of good balance recovery and fast razing speed. I can be the last person to hit before something shields, and still raze/slash before anyone else has a chance to do anything. Before, you could just redistribute corpses, and things would be fine. Now, you're really just rewarding the actual kill...which is exactly what Estarra said she DIDN'T want to do...but this is really the SAME THING, just with more effort on our part to make sure the right people have the bodies.
This change makes no sense to me, in light of the claim that "we don't want people to get xp just for killing." The end result is the same, except that it irritates players because we have to make sure everyone has acquisitio etc.

When Karma first came out I had a problem with people finding ways to kill me without doing it themselves. (Having my turtle/another creature do it) So I ended up dying quite a few times *cougherionandrevancough* with no end in sight.
It's slowed down and now many of the bullies I have I earned. But I still get a random summons every once in a while *coughrevancough*
Overall it has slowed the randomness (or is that the lack of Brona?) but I still have a huge list of bullies because I knew it was pointless to curse. Maybe now with the "Only get karma for what you killed and offered" thing will help it actually have some kind of effect.
Anyway.. Overall I think it has helped, but like anything in the game someone can find a way to abuse it or use it as a strategy.
Random example of things people use in ways they weren't intended, a bard on imperian came up with a strategy of forcing a person to scrub thus giving them the 8 (or whatever) seconds of imbalance to afflict/attack and kill them.

Ok.. the "only getting karma for offering your own kills" thing I think is definately a decent idea.. I'm not really really thrilled with the whole system, but. it could be worse.. and I like the blessings actually, a lot, when I can get them. I like the idea that you can earn little rewards for doing stuff without having to be all with some god.
Anywho, the real point.. the Avenger.. omg did I have problems with the avenger... is the idea great? Ya. Did it actually work? I don't think so.. really.. at all.. There were a ton of times I should have been able to get vengeance on people but didn't, likely because of bugs or something. Also.. I had major problems with scenarios like this: Silvanus kills me somewhere on prime, I get him as a suspect. I think I'm safe for a while now, eh? Alright.. sure.. now.. he sneaks into Celest and starts trouble.. I attempt to summon him. (It doesn't work, of course, but anyways) I lose suspect. He's free to kill me again Why? Why?!!!@!one! I'm not trying to get back at him for killing me..My attempt to fight him has nothing to do with that at all, I'm defending my territory. He's the effing enemy, and now I just handed him another free pk because I tried to fight him in my home? Screw that. Similarly, this has happened off plane. Daevos kills me, I have him as suspect, yadada, same idea.. he raids Celestia. I go up and get into a tussle with him. I lose suspect.. not only is it the same BS because he's on enemy territory, but WE'RE NOT EVEN ON PRIME which is where the Avenger's jurisdiction is supposed to end! Period. Estarra talked about encouraging RP? Well, hey, that's great. My RP as a Celestine is guard Celestia, help the city. The character class and all that itself suggest readily what I should do, but when I go out and do my friggin duty and only succeed in giving my enemies more free chances to kill me without any sort of fear of retribution, that turns me off. There's your massive dropout rates there. Who the hell wants to start a game where some a-hole like Brona or whoever jumps you the second you step out of your city, and then gets another free kill on you when you're forced to confront him (or anyone like that) when they raid? How is that in any way, shape or form justice? You'll never ever get to see that avatar go smoke your oppressor, because the old system rewarded people for being as aggressive as possible. Kill everyone in the world once for free, then go raid all their shit and laugh as they all lose status, and kill em again! Then go raid on other planes and rinse and repeat.
There's no way I'd ever support having nothing but the old-school avenger again unless some basic issues were addressed, like status not being affected on enemy ground or off plane. (or the friggin arena! I know, that was a bug, but still) If those things actually did get changed/fixed, then.. well.. I'll feel kinda stupid for ranting about it now.

I wasn't raiding I was out for a pleasant stroll and just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. While you are at it how about removing my enemy status?
