Because you're a KNIGHT with GREAT ARMOUR. Try wearing chainmail and see what his wounding does.
Morik2005-06-20 03:17:39
Ok. testing with Kelly/Rafael.

Sir Rafael Lenu, Champion of the Light says, "Strength : 14 Dexterity : 17
Constitution : 13 Intelligence : 14 Size : 12 Charisma : 15." <-- aslaran

Sir Rafael Lenu, Champion of the Light says, "Damage: 71 Precision: 187 Speed:
238."

Sir Rafael Lenu, Champion of the Light says, "Is the rapier I hit you with."

now. his damage: 3975 to 3660. wounding: most 9, once 10. I think the 10 wounding was done in a different stance. My chainmail minus runes: 45/48.

The same done to Kelly: 4 wounding. Her full plate minus runes: 96/95.

Kelly wearing my armour: 10 and 9 wounding.

I'm sounding like a broken record, but warriors vs warriors seems a lot more balanced than warriors vs non warriors.

I dont know how all these formulas are working but its weird how one person does to much wounding to me while another seems to do fine wounding.. the difference from person to person seems to be so gapped.. even when I fight someone and then someone else fights same person, wounding changes.
Xavius2005-06-20 04:03:07
See, I don't worry about wounding when I fight knights. I'm fully aware that if I get hit, I'm one fried fishcake. Dodge or die. It's the only way to go.

Well, my 10 dex with virtuous combat doesn't seem to translate into "dodge hits". I'll head into the arena to get exact numbers.

I can't even go imperial merian with virtuous combat and expect to dodge without transing combat. 10 dex, 10 con .. I'd be toast in four lunges. Its already /like/ that against knights right now - you lunge four times, I'm down below 2000 health.

The answer of "transcend combat and learn to parry/stance!" Is all fine and good if I could last long enough against a knight to actually learn how to parry/stance. As it stands right now, I die in four-five rounds. Thats not enough, for me, to learn what is effective with parry/stance. This also doesn't help those who wish to learn to fight but can't transcend combat stand any chance against knights.
Morik2005-06-20 04:55:39
Another data point. I don't know what str Terenas has, but she's an unspecialised merian. Her lunge is doing /15/ wounding to my chest - instant heavy damage - from no wounds. In one hit. This is through my shiny new 62/37 greatrobes. The damage is "only" 249 from that one hit, so 500 a round plus wounding.

edit: nope, terenas is an elfen lord.

edit: damnit, I call Kelly a guy, Terenas a girl.. must be my australian interpretation of names. sorry.

trans resilience will do wonders for your tankiness, try it, you'll find your damage from knights to go down a hell of a lot

Hah. Had your honours mixed up with Malicia. Oops. smile.gif Still, as an unspecialised merian doing 400h a swing. Jeez.

Also, do people think impale/impale/rend/rend for 1200 bleeding isn't insane? Ouch.

I /know/ trans resilience and combat will help. Again, how do I explain to some interested celestine combat person that you have to trans combat and resilience to fight knights, but you don't need to trans anything really to fight me? I think its a bit unfair that the entry level to fighting knights is trans guildskills /and/ trans combat/resilience, with high discipline to deal with paralysis or you might as well stay home.

(And I'm fabled resilience, virtuoso combat).
Murphy2005-06-20 07:25:15
I agree, its is damn unfair that you HAVE to trans (or at least mythical resilience like me) to fight knights effectivly. Unofrtunatley htough knights have to be based on the fact that trans resilience if available

Solution? remove resilience entireley and don't replace it, refund lessons at 100% then balance it from there.

Well, in all honesty, the scariest knight races have the same issues against us as we do against them. They tend to have low mana, so amissio/absolve is a very viable tactic. I use paralysis on my angel, and it hits about as often as a venom on an average speed weapon. Warriors don't have passive effects, and we can hinder like crazy.

Stances are nice, but dodging need not use Combat.

Thats not a solution. The trouble here is the stupidly wide variety of dex, con and str people have. I still hate that I can't be a Merian to even begin to tank the crap people are throwing at me. I'll practice some more against Terenas since he's not doing the insane amount of damage that paladins are ur'guard are doing (high dex /and/ 19 str? Hello?) and maybe I'll learn how to stance/parry. They may wish to close this wide range of damage/dodging/wounding people are able to both give and tank. Right now it really is unbearable. Having to trans half the skills in AB to effectively join combat in Lusternia, as it is, is really damned unfair. If I weren't able to spend OOC gold on credits I'd have given up by now.

So they drop surge when fighting us. I can't last the four rounds I'd need to pull off amissio/absolve even with numen. I guarantee, even with angel on paralysis I'd be unable to. We're not exactly scary in the damage area. Now I know why Amaru uses hangedman/paralysis/trueheal/soulless. Gods.
