There will always be ugly and beautiful. Just take what you like and ignore what you don't. Who cares what everyone else thinks?
Richter2005-06-23 03:43:42
This is very very NOT G-rated, so be warned.

Haha. That person has to have a sense of humour.

I'm curious how long you think this 'modern' view of beuty has been around to negetivly affect people...

Not for the faint of heart, do a search for "pro-ana" and "thinspiration" pictures. Very disturbing.
Media is bad. Internet is bad because anorexics can get group support from others and are more likely to continue.
I stumbled on some poor girl's blog once where she'd written something along the lines of: "omg, I don't know what I was thinking! I had a half cup of cottage cheese and a whole tablespoon of peanut butter today." and she had a bunch of responses from the pro-ana group she was a part of encouraging her to look at her thinspiration and that they knew she was hungry but that she could do it!

That's sick. People need to stay -healthy-
I have to wonder what's wrong with the world these days, or if people have always been this way.

QUOTE(Richter @ Jun 23 2005, 02:30 PM)
Yes. But my points were all valid, and if you can shoot one of them down, feel free to try.
Alrighty.
The fact that you can't see how you calling people wierd and disgusting for how they look makes the problems worse, that's valid?
QUOTE
Nah, I'm right. How many obeese people have you dealt with in medical terms, doctor?
Oh sorry, I must have mistaken your working in a call centre for actually having a medical degree. Just as I must have missed the part where I waved around my diploma.
An insurance company has a vested interest in medical decisions, I hardly see your opinion, which stems from this, as professional an all-knowing.
QUOTE
That post, like all the others you made in this thread, was pointless.
Was it? I must have missed the sign on the way in that proclaimed your ego as a measure of all things with a point.
QUOTE
I don't like skinny girls, because you can't hug them right, and they're unhealthy.
Some people are actually naturally skinny. I may not be a girl, but I've had doctors asking me if I purge my food or if I eat since I was quite young. Yet, I'm perfectly healthy.
QUOTE
I don't like fat girls, because they're gross. This one at the office today was wearing shorts and a tank top, and she was 250lbs+. Her shirt had gone halfway up her back while sitting in her chair, and I could see that even her back had rolls. Her skin was wrinkly. When you can hug a girl and you end up hugging layers of jelly doughnuts instead of tissue, muscle, and bone, that's gross. It's not healthy either.
Should we revisit your photos and critique your fashion sense? Would you like that? It's painfully obvious how much of your very large ego rests on your looks. Now that I think of it, you look a little flabby yourself.
QUOTE
I don't like girls with fake tans usually. This other girl at the office is Actually Orange. Unless you like umpa loompas, -that- discussion is closed.
Maybe she likes her fake tan? It's not up to you to decide what is beautiful for other people.
QUOTE
And my girlfriend is kinda pasty. I don't care if she has a tan, she's amazing.
Good for her.
QUOTE
So, what do all those points have in common? They're personal opinion. Do you care what I look for in a girl? Do I care what you look for in a guy?
No.
Then why should people care what the media thinks?
The POINT of most of my arguments was that you need to get off your butt and keep yourself healthy. And until you're healthy, i.e. acceptably body weight in Both directions, you're funny looking.
If you can accept that, I don't have a problem with it.
No.

Right, your opinion. But we don't live in bubbles. You calling someone disgusting can have a profound affect on people and if you really know so much about this stuff then should know enough to pick your words more carefully.

I have just finished reading a thread, or a type of plea for teenage girls to love the skin they are in. It quickly develops into a discussion around the evils of the media, and the negative images it can portray. Many posted and complained that the media fails us, and it does this by judging what is too fat, and too skinny, what is beautiful, and what is not.
Two pictures of a woman are posted, and although many cry out in disgust over our judgemental media, they continue to comment on how the woman in the picture is too skinny, has horrible hair, and her fake tan is disgusting.
Maybe we are all just pots calling the kettle taupe.

So that's how you say it without blowing up at people? . I knew that!
Heh.
What she said.

In 12th Century China, Women bound thier feet to keep thier feet unaturally small. In the 18th century, women would wear corsets that made thier bodies unatural shapes to keep up with the standards of beauty. In the B.C.E era, women would wear makeup that would kill them.
The only difference now is that people are modifying thier bodies so they look that way when they are naked as well as clothed.

That was a lovely bit of poetry, Jairdan.
I don't really mind what different people find physically attractive - fat, skinny, tall, short, etc... I just lament that beauty and attraction are so often considered solely the domain of the body.

here here Elryn! Beauty of the mind is more important then beauty of the body because one day, you will be left with an old, wrinkly body that's failing, but hopefully, your mind will still be there and so will your partner's!

You will indeed grow old someday. You will, as they say, sag bag and drag. Just hope that by that age, you're with someone you care a great deal for, and have grown old together with.
Unless you're Sean Connery. That dude is getting old, but I bet he can still pick up chicks!

Sean Connery is the king of pimp.

Sadly, you can't take a picture of the mind and sell it in maganzines, nor display it in store windows.
Richter2005-06-23 20:18:08
And you can't have promiscuous relations with a mind either, unless you're a serial killer.

The mind decays with age just as the body does. If there's any better attraction to be found in one over the other, it's not in durability.
