My reflections on Glomdoring

Elryn, you talk a lot about how you want shadow faelings to go back to having lower charisma than dexterity. I want to point out to you that Imperial Merians and Master Viscanti both got charisma boosts when the races were changed. If shadowfaeling charisma got lowered again, that would make Glomdoring the only city without a high charisma specialization. I understand the RP reasons but speaking from a game balance perspective I think you're out of luck.
Elryn2005-06-27 03:31:23
Viscanti at their most charismatic have 12 charisma. Elfen unspecialized have 15, and that is a prolific race in Glomdoring.

Having shadowfaelings with 13 charisma because of their tainted appearance is not disrupting the game balance, especially when both GLomdoring and Magnagora can influence creatures the other two organizations cannot touch at all.
Xenthos2005-06-27 05:00:33
Charisma : 13

Tada, "shadowfaelings" already have it.
Elryn2005-06-27 05:17:51
Amusing.

The Shadowfaeling specializations then.
Thorgal2005-06-27 18:49:59
Uhh..ebonguard faeling rock at combat and bashing, but they only have 13 charisma, shadowcaster faeling have 16 charisma, but they outright blow goats at combat or bashing...why on earth would you want to lower shadowcaster charisma? Doesn't make any sense, the only thing they're decent at is influencing...and we all know how amazingly superior influencing and debating is to bashing and combat.

Lowering shadowcaster charisma wouldn't make any sense from an IC point of view at all, since they're supposed to be seductive, and especially not balance-wise..

Daganev2005-06-27 20:30:43
The RP reason makes no sense either.... The taint is the master of seduction.

I'm getting really sick of, "If this is what I like to do, then Tainted people shouldn't be allowed to do it!"
Elryn2005-06-28 07:14:14
Taint = ugly, feared, unnatural to the original inhabitants of the Basin.

Hence, lower charisma. It worked once, I'm not suggesting something new I'm saying go back to the way it was. Lowered dexterity makes NO sense, lowered charisma does.

That was the ONE FREAKING thing I conceded was alright about the specializations, that at least unspecialized Faelings got to keep their charm in the face of the new mutated versions. That was what I consoled myself with, if you remember the Faeling thread. But no. Of course not. Better ruin that too!

Viscanti are not pretty. (Except to tainted/undead)

Orcs are not pretty. (Except to tainted/undead)

Shadowfaelings are demonic imps. Hence, not quite as pretty or charismatic. IT MADE SENSE.

Balance-wise it could drop by two and they would be fine. Tankier and offensively stronger than unspecialized faelings, not as charismatic. Fair trade off.

Edit: And that comment is censor.gif up Daganev. Sorry. Go grief somewhere else.

Do a search for Viscanti and Estarra on the forums, Its too late at night, and take a look at the Viscanti picture on the Website and tell me its ugly. Look at Rowena, or Sinikka Ixia. You obviously don't know what your refering to from an ingame perspective.
Elryn2005-06-28 08:09:27
Viscanti charisma: 10.

Master viscanti charisma: 12.

Well, actually, the viscanti were meant to be an extraordinarily vain race who prized surface beauty (not really recognizing any other kind of beauty).

Own yourself, Punk....

Emporer proclamations = Celest
Globglob = Member of Celest
Halifax and Gaudiagh = Members of Celestian Empire
Rowena = Not Celest, but also only talking about Kethuru.

QUOTE(Estarra)
Well, actually, the viscanti were meant to be an extraordinarily vain race who prized surface beauty (not really recognizing any other kind of beauty). Maybe we failed somewhat from concept to implementation, but in Magnagora the viscanti upper class were envisioned as enjoying living in the lap of luxury, surrounding and outfitting themselves only in the finest. Even the undead classes tried to maintain a physical surface beauty and those who 'let themselves go' and became extremely grotesque were an embarassment to the Great Houses and sent off to work in the Angkrag mines by their families to keep them out of sight. I think we even set upon the idea of some of the more decrepit undead viscanti who were still in Magnagora (because of their power and connections) only going out in public wearing elaborate masks in order to hide their failing physical form.

(emphasis added)

You must also remember, Daganev, charisma is more than just superficial beauty.

Edit: Actually, nevermind.

Charisma is a reflection of your self worth and Ego, such as confidence.

Estarra said in Beta that instead of thinking of You get Ego based on how much Charisma you have, its better to say you have Charisma based on how much ego you have.

Viscanti have Human level charisma, its not like the orclach which have way below average charisma. And remeber, an Orclach that gets hit by taint becomes an Orc, not the the other way around.

I love how you will quote the Histories left and right, but if Estarra actually says anything on the forums to correct misconceptions, she's obviously wrong and is thinking of the world in a way it shouldn't be.
Elryn2005-06-28 09:25:54
Please cease talking to yourself, and actually read what others are saying.

Did I say Estarra was wrong with Viscanti? No. I emphasised that you quoted the conceptual opinions, not the reality.

Shadowcasters having equal charisma but lower dexterity does not make as much sense as having equal dexterity but lower charisma.
Shryke2005-06-29 06:05:24
balance>reality
it's not like its unbalanced...

Charisma is not about self worth or ego, it is about how much you can charm someone, so to speak.
Xenthos2005-06-29 06:10:18
So perhaps Viscanti, despite their physical beauty, do not have the way with words in order to sway someone that a Faeling does, either Shadow or normal. Then it has nothing at all to do with taint, and is more of a racial thing... which it does seem to be at the moment.
Elryn2005-06-29 08:26:26
I still think it makes much more sense than a dexterity decrease, which is really useless.

Add the fact that shadowdancers can get +3 charisma + regen, and with blacktalon can influence undead... I think it would be balanced. Wrapping yourself in Mother Night's magics you can regain your former charm, but without it your demonic form shows through.
Unknown2005-06-29 11:52:09
Wher'd you get +3 from Elryn? +1 for Penumbra, +1 for one of the Astrology Spheres. And well it's +2 ego regen, since there's also the Sun Totem, Penumbra gives Ego regen.
Elryn2005-06-29 11:57:14
My informant told me penumbra was +3.
Unknown2005-06-29 12:03:09
... sweet, i didn't think something like that, i mean it's what +3 per person, for 5 power, from the leader only, it's cheaper and more effective basically they the Karma Blessing.
