You raise your hands dramatically, and summon an icewall to the down.
2544h, 3291m, 4478e, 9p, 18272w x-l
A sedate office.
This location is flooded with shallow, crystal clear water. The centerpiece of
the top floor of the tower is without a doubt the circular table of blue marble
that sits perfectly in the centre of the room, dominating the space. Like the
other levels, the walls are bare, exposing the hewn blue stone of the masonry
of the building, and somehow creating a sense of former glory and luxury now
gone, sacrificed in order to survive. One of the chairs pulled up to the table
is slightly larger and more ornate than the others, suggesting seniority and
power. A dragon turtle rests here, an air of majesty on its features. A merian
bravo stands here, looking at you with suspicion evident in his eyes. An
icewall is here, blocking passage to the down. Grand Templar Maelon, Marshal of
the Aegis is here, shrouded. He wields a tae'dae bearclaw flail in each hand.
Wuylinfe Meizhang, Ocean's Breath is here, shrouded. He wields a coral staff in
his left hand and a shield bordered in moonstones in his right.
You see exits leading east and down.
2544h, 3291m, 4478e, 9p, 18272w x-sq d
A wall obscures your vision.
2544h, 3291m, 4478e, 9p, 18272w x-
You feel yourself compelled to leave the room, beckoned by the will of a
hideous archdemon.
Amongst quiet laboratories.

Yeah, beckon in Lusternia doesn't force you to move to a direction, unlike in Achaea, it actually summons you, like wisp or planar summon, except monolith doesn't stop it, and it only reaches one room far, so blocking, rubble, icewalls or stonewalls isn't gonna stop it.
Shamarah2005-06-24 21:13:42
I know it used to, though...
And if it's going to stay this way, monolith really needs to stop it.

Kalidasha2005-06-24 21:15:37
Would deluge stop it? Either in your room or theirs, as you would have to swim
Anumi2005-06-24 22:01:20
Hm. But you're still blocked by a wall from flowing into the next room over. How interesting.
Narsrim2005-06-24 22:01:54
So far as I can tell, beckon is broken.
"You feel yourself compelled to leave the room, beckoned by the will of a hideous archdemon."
I don't care how appealing that demon is, it isn't going to force you to walk through a solid wall of ice or stone or while you are off balance, paralyzed, with two mangled legs, stunned by jellyfish, sleeping, etc... yet all of these things no longer prevent you from 'walking' in the direction of a demon that has beguilded you.

Exactly. Yet shedding corporeal form, becoming one with the trees, and mystically transporting yourself to someone else who happens to be one room off, is stopped cold by a wall.

I wish beckon worked the same as Achaea.
Unknown2005-06-25 15:38:04
As nice as it is to have it going through walls, it needs a fix of sorts. Either it should not go through them, or the description should be changed to reflect the reality.
Torak2005-06-25 16:20:52
As a frequent beckoner..its imbalanced and needs to be like Achaeas.
Thorgal2005-06-25 16:32:21
I.e. the achaean version literally forces you to move into your direction, like being commanded.
It goes through shield, is unresistable, but hinderances like rubble, walls, being off balance or blocking will stop it.

Yes, I like that version. One could always Icewall, use two blockers, or plain old sit to disrupt it. Unfortunately there is no real version of the brazier tattoo in Lusternia, therefore a person with tumble could pretty much be immune to instant beckoning. So I think beckon may have to remain the way it is for now, since the other means of summoning may not be easily acquired or desired by all guardians.

You, on your own, can tank the attacks of 5-6 people before tumbling out? (While you're not a faeling, that is.)

I don't like this strategy: it is broken, but let's not fix it because something else is really effective against it. Furthermore, it is really lame in combat. I saw Amaru and Torak jerking entire sides back and forth in an event thing... not only was it disorienting, it was stupid. The fact that you can be sucked out of a room off-balance makes it way too powerful.
Amaru2005-06-25 17:58:08
What's worse than beckon is tackle. Loses all your ents, can be repeated if it fails with no limit, basically beckon with a huge stun on the side - what's that all about?

That's a bug too.
Amaru2005-06-25 17:59:34
I don't see why it has to stun... a small balance disruption would be enough, surely. It makes you lose all your ents...

I don't see why it knocks the knight onto the ground as well, but guess what, it does. There are many ways in which skills work that not all of us like, tackling multiple times without losing balance is obviously a bug, stun on a successful tackle/barge/charge is not and was designed that way.
Amaru2005-06-25 22:06:02
But if there's no roleplay reason, and no one likes it, why should it stun?
Saikado2005-06-25 22:11:24
Take a knight in a suit of armor TACKLING you successfully, chances are you're getting the wind knocked out of you.
Just like being sacked by a football player.
