I hope ithylar doesn't mind that I started this poll: the other was rather unclear and only offered two choices, where the post that started this brought multiple options.
So here you are. To clear things up (and because I can NEVER make a small post )
discuss RP in Lusternia, including rants, advice, showing off: not IC
Means an OOC forum that talks about the RP from the game. It would have everything from displaying an RP event that was interesting, ranting about the (lack of) RP from someone/thing (you KNOW rants will show up here), talk about different RP issues (can tainted people be 'made clean' truly.. if you've been healed does it still hurt.. can faelings mate ) and get help on things like descriptions.
A place to actualy roleplay withing the forum seperate from Lusty.
A forum made for actual roleplaying in. Chances are it'll be a different story from Lusternia's (maybe an alternate world), but no matter: if you want an actual roleplay IC board here's your choice
Just a spot to help people with IG questions.
More moderated version of the first choice, no rantings or boasting, just answering questions people would have when RPing, whether involving the histories or day to day issues (you can ask if faelings can have children, but PLEASE don't post your RP evidence )
We don't need anything, OK?!
clear enough I hope.
There, suitibly long enough post.

We already discuss RP in great, analytical/ranty detail in the General and Idiots! sections.
We already answer in-game questions in the General, Survival, and Combat sections.
We have enough issue getting people to seperate IC/OOC as it is. Let's not confuse the line. This is OOC. In-game is IC.
Nope, don't need anything.

Combat forum has a subsection for combat logs. A comparable place for RP logs would be lovely.
Posting RP logs could be good for your commune/city or guild, as it demonstrates that there's depth to the experience for people looking and wondering what to join. Also could be good for you, as posting the logs also in effect advertises your skills and type of RP and could encourage others to RP with you more. Your, your guild, or whatever worked really hard to arrange a certain event (wedding, ritual, festival, etc.)? Some great Event (capital E intended) happened? People aren't always able to attend everything, but are still interested in what happened.
We do not need someplace to RP separate from the game. Especially not someplace that's not even remotely IC or Lusternian.

People usually post RP logs in the Creative Section or sometimes General. I doubt we'll have very many RP logs anyways.
And right, if you want to RP, do it in-game.

Give the Creative section a subforum for RP logs like the Combat section has a subforum for Combat logs and I'll be thrilled.
Subforums are lovely. Keeps things more organized. Thus speaks the librarian-in-training. Organization is good.

I post my large RP logs every time in general. Remember the Wrym post? My family history? Random stuff sometimes?
Daganev2005-06-23 20:55:37
A seperate RP log area in creative arts might just be a good idea. This way people can more easily find logs and examples of how people RP in Lusternia.
(helps with the people who are just joining and want to understand the culture of the game better)

I like it. Combat logs, RP logs. Good way to promote RP, and the game in general.

Yay! option 1 is winning!
True, RP matters do get handled in general, but I think due to the complex story and the difficulty in keeping up with everything should be enough all alone to keep an RP board filled up, along with the RP logs (which I don't like being linked with art: Art is when I paint a picture, not when I'm telling someone I've been dating that "we should just be friends").
Also, while the nature vs taint discussions all over the Glomdoring posts are interesting, I say it's an RP issue and perhaps trying (if not already) sidetracked from the original topic.

Art is Painting, Music, Writing and Acting.
RP logs are a form of acting.

When I first arrived I was surprised to find that Lusternia doesn't have an IC forum.
Now, after having read these forums for a while and seeing that there is much confusion over the separation of in-character and out-of-character I can perhaps understand why.
However, I still think that an IC forum would be a good thing, and possibly even help people to separate in-character and out.
I'd like to see something like a 'gossip' forum where people can post IC.
Essentially this is just an extension of the public newsboards that exist in-game. Its just that these are less accessible that a forum.
Ideally, of course, this would be integrated into the game itself. We can now read our messages through the Lusternia web site - it would be great if we could read / write news posts too.
But until that time, I think an IC forum would be a good idea.

In hopes of drawing people to the idea of an RP board again... RP board as discussed in option 1, not option 2. See how many people were for the idea?
Richter2005-07-30 13:12:44
Agreed. Discussing RP is fine, trying to RP on the forums is bad.

No. Too many people are incompitent idiots and will take constructive criticism as insults. Besides, you have General for anything like, setting up role-play.
Forums for role-play seperate from Lusternia. NO. Sorry. It's stupid, and will just incite HORRIBLE problems. Gods it would be an event worthy of eye-gouging.
"NO, I KILLED YOU." "DID NOT!!" "DID TOO!" "DID NOT!" "HOW?!" "I USED MY TOAD CURSE!" "DID NOT!" "DID TOO!" "DID NOT!" "DID TOO!"

As I said above, if you make that available from the web, I would be happy.
Its a convinience thing.
Many of the topics here are of little interest to me OOC. The nature of the taint, why communes should hate cities etc. etc.
OOC: These are the tools by which the game generates conflict. And beyond that I don't see much point in discussing it.
However, from an IC point of view. I may have many opinions that I wish to express. Despite the fact that these forums are supposedly OOC, many - no, I think most, of the people here express their IC point of view (just distanced - in an OOC fashion). Thus I find it somewhat amusing to find that there is such opposition to having an IC forum in which to do the same thing.
For people who do not play their character as a separate person of course, there is no distinction, for those that do it seems that it would be nice to have a forum to express IC opinions as your character.
Cwin2005-08-03 00:49:18
Well, it's been a while since I posted this, and now I'm starting to question the idea of even having a forum, nevermind an RP thread. WAY too many things that should be dealt with ICly is, instead, done here. The fact that I can learn more about what's going on with Lusternia's RP here than in the game feels very wrong to me.
Thus, no RP board at all for me
