It's... from what I hear, about 40-90 damage.
Ceren2005-06-24 22:54:54
heh, so much for a cosmicfire replacement
Unknown2005-06-24 23:00:23
You can also make them very weak to certain types of damage. And sun changes damage type every time sun moves into a different sign.

No, sun damage stays the same for that person. It differs from each person, because their Sun sign is different.

I don't think any Guardian skill will ever be as useful as Tarot, which is an amazing skillset and covers the whole spectrum of usefulness. I only wish it was a little more magical and less throwing-cards, but sometimes utility comes first.
Erion2005-06-24 23:22:49
For those of us who were at college orientation (*coughmecough*), someone explain what happened in the event? I don't give a damn about the skills!

agreed! but I have to admit astrology definately has the hipness factor
Estarra2005-06-24 23:37:00
I warned people not to take astrology unless absolutely certain they want it because it's definitely the most complicated skill we have (in terms of using).
Anyway, one thing about astrology is that its effectiveness is very fluid. On the day Daevos was born, for example, I would hazard that astrologers at that time (if we had astrology) would certainly own anybody in combat. At other times, their skills would not be considered so powerful.
It's an interesting skillset and I hope those who delve into its unchartered waters enjoy it.

Damn. I was just the other day thinking "I wish I had more OPTIONS in combat" (I have like 4 attacks) and then this comes out. Buuut I'm already buying credits for someone's birthday soon...well, let's see. Seems awesome.
Unknown2005-06-24 23:40:08
I don't really get it, does that mean that some signs are objectively less or more powerful than others?

But if you astrocast
PS see how complicated it is?
Daganev2005-06-24 23:50:10
you are correct Mav, however, I was talking about the basic attack skill of sun that did 200 fire damage to my Korkani, and after having a 5% weakenss did 7 more damage. So I was just suggesting that maybe the base damage be raise around 100 or so to make the offense better.
I missed the event also, hopefully someone can write an announce post or start a seperate thread on that subject.
Best as I can tell, the skillset will best be used by people who know how to make, maintain, and read good databases

I think she means that different attacks will be at a different power to different people on different days.
To exaggerate an example but to stress the point, one month you could cast the Moon spell (made up name) on me, who would be a Volcano sign and hurt me for 300 hp, then cast it again on yourself, a Twin Crystals and go blind. Then next month the Moon spell will give me stupidity, while you fall asleep.
Then you try it out on a friend, a Lion sign, next month and kill them instantly.
It's probably not THAT random, but all three factors probably play a role as to how your skills will work.
So if you want to be able to depend on something, don't touch it. If you don't like always figuring out what in the world you're going to do today, don't touch it. If you like LOTS AND LOTS OF VARIETY then consider it.
Myself, I love the idea, absolutly love it.

Or have a freaking good memory. (Yes, I switched. I am weak.)
EDIT: But I LOVE having choices and variety. Sounds like it's for me.

Unless I'm incredbily mistaken, SUN is the only straight damage attack that will always to straight damage. Based on what I saw and guestimated at, Sun will do a max of 800 damage on a good day to someone with the most vunerability against it, maybe even 1000. But on average, as it is now, I don't see it doing more than 400. Nature curse does about 600.
However, Astrology has 6 bajillion other things it can do to people, I was just talking about the straight damage aspect to make the skillset more viable for killing people. Would also be nice if it worked on mobs.

Incidentally, I adore the cyclical nature of this, and have always wished the aspect of Moon that did this had been more exaggerated than it currently is.
Daganev2005-06-25 00:33:05
How often is a full cycle? real life time, I'm askin not game time.
is it more than once a weak?

..yep, not gonna take astrology,
..unless it takes balance instead of equilibrium, but somehow I doubt that.
That aside, they don't need Sun to be very good, cause all guardians have cosmicfire/moonburst/nightkiss.

Equilibrium, sorry.
(SOMEONE with good coding has to make a database for it though, it's complex enough that I can't wing it, and I'm normally good with this. >_<)
EDIT: As for the sun damage, are you sure you guys were doing it at the right times? Plus, you probably have to cripple them with the right sphere.
Daganev2005-06-25 01:09:25
the 40-90 damage was defintly the wrong time, but 200 was a fairly good time, with Volcano sphere giving a 5% penalty to someone who was born under teh Volcano
edit: Seee, I told you need a good database.
