Nah Saikado, Paladins SHOULD be crusaders. Just not disloyal like Rafael.

bleh, I also think of the Catholic Church whenever I hear crusader and that's not a positive association.
Shamarah2005-06-28 17:18:23
Starwardens because Templars don't make sense, and, well, I'm the one who thought of Starwarden after all

As opposed to Paladins and Templars, which have no connection to the Church?
Amaru2005-06-28 18:45:33
I'm beginning to dislike Saikado.

I voted for Crusader. I think it gives the proper feel of a guild that should be out converting people to the Light... by force.
I somewhat liked the suggestion of Praetorians here, too, though I admit to not knowing the real history behind the name. It's just a cool word.

The concept of Paladins comes historically from the story of the twelve peers of Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, who incidentally was the head of... the Holy Roman Empire.
Knights Templar were an order started by two poor knights (originally called The Poor Knights of Christ) protecting pilgrimages to the Christian holy land. The "Templar" comes from the full order name, Knights of the Temple of Solomon, since the knights were given quarters above, supposedly, the site of the old temple. Templar could easily refer in Lusternia to a Celest (or other organization) - friendly background.
Your concern for the Catholic Church or Lusternia's placement of "crusader" doesn't really need to get mixed.
If you wanted to take issue with "knights" at all and go back to the equestrians or further, you could try, but, it wouldn't be connected with Lusternia . The word seneschal, while not coming from them, was the second highest rank in the Templars too... go get us Gregori Amaru
The guild has been over the name changing stuff before by the way... I don't particularly mind the name, but though the guild at one point had essentially agreed to switch to Starknights and move some ranks around, higher ups didn't like the idea, so I don't know if you ought to expect something from it anytime soon.

Templars, although the name isn't really fitting in Lusternia because of the reason for creation of it.

That's true. But the same could be said of Paladins.
Edit: Dang, that's a ninjaing.
Shryke2005-06-29 02:09:44
Is it just me or does starknights sound a little erm... fruity??
Saikado2005-06-29 02:23:09
meh, I was keeping my opinions on paladins out as there was enough naysay on them already from the days of Achaea.
As for you hating me Amaru, perfectly alright, I have no mislaid belief that I will be liked or friends with everyone.

Praetorians were Caesar's personal bodyguards, near the end of the Roman Empire. I think. Again, it doesn't really fit with the concept of Lusternia, but it's a good name. If we're going for something that makes a bit more sense in the game world, I'd like to suggest Brightguard, or Brightlords. Something along those lines. I think it sounds better than Light_____, but it keeps the same theme.
Malicia2005-06-29 18:51:40
Brightguard?
Narsrim suggested Lifeguard which was hilarious.. you know, with the 'Pool' of Stars and all, heh.

Actually I love Narsrim's suggestion of calling them the Lifeguards...
But seriously the cool name/theme of the Templars wins hands down.

tell me if my memory fails me but wasn't Templars the original name of the Paladins in early Achaea?
Back in Gawain's days?

Daganev2005-07-04 19:41:31
If you insist on changing the Guild name you have to atleast make it a (randomname)guard guild...
like.. Celeguard or Celestianguard or Waterguard or Crystalguard or bodyguard whatever...

Alef2005-07-04 19:42:20
Yes it was, when they had Bladefire, I think.
Stangmar2005-07-10 03:50:19
Gaudiguch's warriors could be the 'Firefighters'!
Unknown2005-07-10 03:54:48
I like the Templar, but I like the Paladins too. I wouldn't want to be XGuard anything. Besides, all history backs us up as being Paladins, no where is their room or reason for a name change unless some astounding Guild event takes effect.
Daganev2005-07-10 03:59:22
well, you were the bodyguards of the emporer... you could be called the Bodyguard
