Although my parents did give me a hard time about it. They're over it now, but they used to be like, "Ugh, I hate that game I wish you would stop playing it."

Heh, same.
Nokraenom2005-07-01 08:21:08
Heh, yea. Only 2 of my friends know I've ever played MUDs (being the ones who got into it at the same time I did), and since then they've quit and they think I have as well.

Playing text games is pretty much by big, dark secret. My friends would kick my censor.gif if they knew I did it. Well, then they'd get over it, but it's still not worth the time to bother explaining to them why I enjoy it.

As silly as it may sound, I will not tell people, because this is MY escape. This is MY place to run away and hide. This is MY domain. Like hell I'm going to tell people I know about it, because then they'll bother me here.

I remember when I was like 13 and started playing MUDs... I was on a 30-trail (i.e credit card free) of Gemstone 3. I left it on one day and I was at some skill screen that had like a Sorceror and like demon magic or something along those lines and my Mom came in and read it and she completely flipped out (her being one of those *crazy* strict Christians). And she threw the computer out of the house, into the yard, and it broke. It was so f'ing crazy even 7 years later as I think about it. But since I was teenager, MUDs became my teenage rebellion (as lame as that sounds), it kept me out of trouble actually, until I discovered a little thing called pot in my late teens. To this day, it would be difficult for me to tell my Mom about me playing MUDs. Maybe this should go on the "Most Embarrassing moments" thread instead.

rofl.

Oh god, the worst was when I was copying and pasting something from some journal in Mhaldor to show Raiha (it was funny so I had to show her) and accidentally pasted it to my best friend. Yeah, I played it off like it was some weird thing my brother showed me and I was showing my sister.

Nokraenom said it perfectly. MUDing is totally my deepest, darkest secret. The only people who know that I play/played are the people I know from online.

Playing while your friends are trying to visit is a quick way to piss off your friends. "I'm in a guild meeting" doesn't cut it, and neither does " censor.gif , village revolted, be back in an hour or eight." sad.gif

EDIT: Watch your language. ~Shiri~

ohmy.gif I remember that game! It was my first too.

Look at it this way, you're superior to non-Lusternians, you don't just have a life, you have two.
Unknown2005-07-02 15:21:50
I don't tell a lot of people I play Lusternia. The ones I do tend to look at me like I'm some sort of alien lifeform or something. My sisters are of the mind "Well, could be worse. She could enjoy stomping on kittens or something." Though they are both mildly horrified by the amount of time I spend online in general and blame the game for most of it (though really I only spend about 1/3 of my online time playing Lusternia)

My dad thinks it's cool, but doesn't quite get that you can't 'pause' the game like he can his Final Fantasy games on Playstation.

My mum has difficulties with that one, too, actually. She couldn't understand why you guys didn't all just stop playing when I logged off.

I hate to be a prick but being proud of having no friends or life because of an internet game is not a good thing.

No such thing as friends, only enemies you haven't met yet.

My family is like hey we're going to the beach, wanna come? And I'm like nah, I got things to do, which they know means I'd rather play on my computer than go.

And when people who first find out what a MUD is, they go wow, how can you play a game thats all reading? And I'm like because I can do anything I can in real life in the game, and I get to kill stuff. happy.gif

Or when someone in my family goes why don't you go read a book or something? And I go because I read all day!

lets see my parents used to complain all the time that i mudded when i played aetolia, it was rather funny. one day we were in the middle of a war and i got killed by a group of like 5 shallam folk, and i started cussing and out of left field my mom comes and slaps me in the mouth, and starts berating me for swearing, and i am watching the computer screen waiting for the moment i can redef and go back.......they took away my laptop for 2 weeks afterthat.

i have never really had many friends to tell about the game, but all my friends at one point or another have played muds, me and my friends who all started at the same time in achaea used to randomly jump people and die all the time just to cause mischief, we would jump people with newbies back when you had to go threw a interview to be let into a guild, man that was fun.

ohh try explaining to your grandmother who wants to know what you are doing when she sits down next to you, and your mudding, ya my grandma just looked at me like what i assume how a dog looks at people who are having sex, just like wtf......then she camely got up and left, and now she doesn't talk to me much.

Nejii shouts, "hey guys, I'm logging out now, don't take that village we are half way through influencing, just everyone STOP"

Rest of Basin, "F*$K off shiri"
