Maho-Shoujo hmm? You might like the non-murderized Cardcaptor Sakura.  Not the one they show on tv, but the dvds that I think Pioneer releases.

wub.gif I've seen of the non-censor.gif episodes of that. Didn't really suit me, but I loved the subtitled Sailor Moon series.. and yes I watched all of it. -hum- One thing that pisses me off is that they tried to make all of the slightly kidish animes even more kidish and 'urban'.. needless to say.. it made it crappy.

Trigun is a really good series. It was actually one of the more mature animes that I could understand. I liked FLCL, but I didn't understand almost anything in it until I read the manga.

I think overall. my favorite was.. Ah! My Goddess!, because the artwork is just so pretty even though it's so old.. and I liked the storyline a lot.

I have no idea what everyone sees in Trigun. >_< The ending! It was horrible! ...and so were the middle bits for that matter! Wtf. Oh well. I -really- need to see Evangelion.
Unknown2005-07-02 06:55:49
I hereby apologize to everyone for making you read the utter crap that I posted yesterday, and am going to go edit it out now. I was just a LITtle bit hyper after a rather lengthy session of violent video games, thrash metal, and Super Mario. If anyone comments on that mixture, shotguns will be involved.

I hate trigun because it takes 5 episodes just to get through one 'scene'. Also the beginning was abit sad.
Unknown2005-07-02 18:57:53

I used to like Power Rangers, for two seasons back when I was young. It's still going 10+ years later? WTF?

Hear Hear! thumup.gif There's nothing like the original Power Rangers. I mean, it even had a plot! Like with the green ranger and being trapped with his candle, and I forget what happened, and it was awesome, and he called his dragon with a flute, and I always wanted to be like the green ranger.

Ah, nostalgia...

Trigun is the pimp stuff, although i will grant the ending sucked, now if you want a GOOD anime Hellsing, thats all i will say, if you've seen it you will know how wonderful it is, if not i fear for your poor soul.
Manjanaia2005-07-03 18:12:38
Yeah original power rangers was ace! The new ones blow.
Nayl2005-07-03 18:18:56
Damn straight youn'un
Manjanaia2005-07-03 18:21:28
I'm only 4 years younger than you aren't I? glare.gif
Nayl2005-07-03 18:32:58
That's a lot of growing up, I'm only 19.
Manjanaia2005-07-03 19:01:15
Psht, you're one to talk, oh bastion of maturity! tongue.gif
Marcalo2005-07-04 23:44:38
oh yes the first power rangers were bad ass, the girls were so hot, the guys looked like idiots.
Nymerya2005-07-05 05:12:25
I still think the best would have to be Hellsing, or Witch Hunter Robin. SHE too, 'cept the ending ruined it for me.
Alger2005-07-05 06:49:45
hey i liked ninja scroll... also Akira and GITS... well i did like the manga better... but still... those were pretty good back then. I still like those better than say, DB or the likes. Also like those better than a lot of the stuff they show now-a-days.

And compairing a hollywood movie to an anime movie is like comparing the Creazione Di Adamo with Starry Night.

I think the problem with Evangelion is not so much that it's complicated, it's more that it's poorly explained.

If there is reasoning behind it, it's abstract, and it goes from being a show about giant robots to an animated Muholland Drive.

But I rather suspect it's just an issue of the writers trying to get some idea across, getting bored of that idea and dropping all thread associated with it, then picking a new idea to try to get across, and just repeating this cycle. Three or four times each episode.

And because nothing happening makes any sense on the surface there are dozens of possible interpretations people get from it that the writers never even considered. Then they decide that must be what it meant and it's brilliant.

...that being said, Irresponsible Captain Tylor is the greatest thing I've ever seen.

I hate Anime
I hate Japanese Video Games, except I have spent excessive amounts of time playing Pokemon for some reason
I hate hate hate hate hate hate Japanese Cars, or as i call em, Rice Burners.
I hate how they decided to bomb us at 7:00 in the damn morning on sunday in F***ing december for no reason.
Unknown2005-07-07 07:27:33
Stangmar, I think you have just actively proved the initial point of this thread and that it is not just something seen in Korea.

We thank you for this masterfully put example

Yeah, 'cause like...

1) A "World War" qualifies as "No Reason"

2) We sure can't call it even a few decades later. Not even if a couple of their cities got blown to hell with nuclear weapons in what really, when you think about it, is pretty high ranking for largest-scale terrorist act in history. Maybe not the biggest, but up there.

3) The quality of the animation and story telling produced by Japan is entirely dependent on military history and its automotive industry.
Sylphas2005-07-11 03:18:04
The only reason it wouldn't easily be the highest is if you don't count it as one. I mean, our biggest terrorist attack was when 3k+ people died. Two buildings. We vaporized most of two whole -cities-.

I think the problem people get caught on is that they think of animation and comics as for children and adolescents. In Japan, the market is MUCH wider, and it's most definitely not all kids stuff.

I mean, here, Saving Private Ryan was a damned good movie. In Japan, they might have done the same thing, but animated. It would be just as good a movie, just in a different way. Here, we wouldn't even think of doing something like that.
