I was just thinking, with the mage/guardian/wiccan/druid classes being cool, having neat thing, having varied skill, etc... are warriors boring?
For the most part, I run around and beat things with a weapon. Occasionally I joust someone. Then I go back to beating things with a weapon.
Is it just me, or are warriors, by no fault of the administration, boring?

Boring style-wise, but very very effective. (still mad about ixion killing me in one combo yesterday) What I really like about the class is the fact that the messages are so dynamic, unlike other MUDs I've played where knight combat ends up as:
You swing a greatsword at a baby rat.
You hit!
You swing a greatsword at a baby rat.
You cleave him in two!
R. I. P. A baby rat is dead.
If I were to make knight combat less boring, I'd make the messages more dynamic to reflect other changes in status, like if you're enraged or something like that.

Patience, it has already been said that they have a special treat for the warriors
Syrienne2005-07-05 21:10:45
Eh anyone whos played knights on any other IRE is thrilled beyond belief how warriors are here I'd think.. I've been a knight my entire IRE career and I love these knights in comparison.. I dont find them boring really because they involve alot of strategy in rotating wounds and stuff, its a big pain to have to fight all the defenses people have and still be effective. But of course you dont fight Richter so yea if your life consist totally of none combat exercises then Knights would appear boring.

It already changes based on the wound you give / if you miss outright / the weapon you use / the type of attack you use / if your target fully or partially dodges, or parries. Plus if you don't deal out a wound then it changes based on how healthy your target is as a result of the blow with a different set of messages for each body part and each weapon damage type. I don't think it can get any more dynamic or else I will be seen bashing my keyboard through my monitor.

Poor Roark.
I'm in the same boat as Syrienne here, I'd played a knight for a long time in Achaea, and I'm absolutely thrilled with being one here. The extra defenses from Athletics, and the uniqueness between Bonecrusher and Blademaster are great. The only thing that I don't particularly enjoy is the BC and BM specializations are almost all afflictions that can we give, and they are random as well.
Take a Mage using Runes, they're in the same boat in the sense that they can only give afflictions they have learned up to, but at least they get to choose what afflictions. We don't have that same leisure and our afflictions are also restricted to a specific wound level.
Nonetheless, I love being a knight here. Thanks for all the works you've done.

ok... considering warriors need about 30 different attack aliases to be able to handle all the various situations... and I believe there are over 6 trigger messages limb as to what you need to heal... I'm not quite sure how you can say its boring.
Richter2005-07-05 22:07:42
I don't nessecarily mean the way we play, I mean... the fact that we run around and beat on things with a sword or a mace. I was wondering, overall, in this game and others, and in all kinds of other things (Merlin was -much- cooler than Arthur), if we were boring.
I think this is just one of those threads where I have half a clue about something I want to post, and I do so, and people don't get what I mean, thereby confusing myself as well.

LOL... Yes warriors are boring, and make up for it with more interesting and indepth personalities, however in Lusternia warriors get a thirdskillset which makes them less boring, like totems.
Warriors are boring because they are the default, and everything else is compared to them.
Just look at Xena, or Rambo, or Conan.. All very boring compared to Charmed, or Top Gun, or Those shadowy magic dudes Conan fought against.

Warriors are never the most interesting classes, if you look at almost any RP game or Fantasy novel. They are your straight hack-n-slash type class. Warriors here are different from the other classes based on original design.
Ah, I hadn't read this thread. Hajamin actually hit right on what I was thinking, about how we're never the most interesting class, in a game/novel. It's like he read my mind. I wasn't actually looking for anything new, I just thought that warriors were boring, but switching classes would suck on many different levels.

That said, we have something special for you.
Sweet. Though not was I was trying to hit on, having something special for us is nice as well.
Syrienne2005-07-05 22:23:48
I think Warriors can be very cool and very interesting when put in the right situations and RP'd. I mean personally since Richter brought up Arthur and Merlin, that new remake of Arthur about the supposed 'real arthur' as they think he may have been.. see I found the guy in that movie who was the gifted killer and expert swordsman to be the most interesting character.. sure Arthur was a good fighter and so was rest of the crew of knights but that guy honed his art and killed with finesse. That sort of thing I like.. but that may just be me. Caramon and Raclyn another cool warrior if anyone has read those books..
Shamarah2005-07-05 22:25:41
Cohen the Barbarian. There's a warrior who was NOT boring.
(bonus points to anyone who has any clue who I'm talking about)

You mean Caramon and -Raistlin-?
Because that's almost how Murphy and I play.

Whatever i havent read those books in a long long time
Murphy2005-07-06 02:40:41
Ok let me ask you this, would you rather watch a star wars lightsaber battle? or the thing where they throw lightning at each other????
The saber battle is much better, and knights are really interesting and fun if you choose something difficult to play with, like being a speed bonecrusher, its so much more rewarding to get a bashbrain

anything other than PVP combat in IRE is boring imo. We have no runs, we have no economy, we have no collectible eq, we have no challenging npcs etc etc.
