Well, all I can offer is, I have only foraged like three times. It's a part of my aslaran RP that carnivores don't eat nuts and berries much -- that's not food, it's what food eats.
I don't think Forage and Carrion are really what limits Cooking, though. I think the limits on recipe development are the bigger problem. The costs and per-time limits might work for something like Forging, but for Tailoring they're too limiting, and for Cooking they're crippling. Cooking is only going to get moving when it's done for RP, and many of the RP uses will be better handled with a private recipe, but those cost too much and you can do too few of them -- maybe someone might use this for a custom wedding cake, but barely even that. Even public recipes are too limited, plus all your investment of creativity and understanding of what people need is going to profit others just as much as it will you, so why bother? There's just no point in making recipes really closely adapted to RP needs, and there's no other needs that will make Cooking profitable or especially interesting.

P.S. I've been selling poisoned foods to psionics.

Hmm. More jewelers than I expected....for a skill that's only rarely used
Though...all fussing aside..I do so love to make purty sparklies

Where are all these alleged Enchanters and Alchemists?! They do not exist in the game, you people lie!
Unknown2005-07-09 15:58:36
I find it mildly amusing that there are six cooking cartels in existence, and only five chefs. Although Rhosyn doesn't (as far as I know), read the forums, so that means there are four public cartels... meaning there are the Trademasters and one more chef.

You're right that as a general rule I don't read the forums unless someone tells me about a thread that they think I'll be interested in. I actually had meant to come on and do the poll (which I was told about earlier this week), but lost track of the idea. Sometimes life happens. *shrug*
So, anyway, now we have six chefs. (I actually know there are more, but what the hey.)

Spices will no longer give nourishment, so hopefully you'll have a few more customers!Â

heh, for a short while a chunk of the Mes'ard family were serious spice addicts,
I blame Skyla personally she turned her children into junkies, we couldn't go
a day without spice. We won't even mention about Tsuki dealing spices.

Where's Artisan, and Richter, so what if i dropped trans cooking and all this highish stuff for Dreamweaving, it was worth it, until i dropped that and went Wiccan.
Skyla2005-08-07 12:41:26
This can't be happening.
Yrael2005-08-07 12:44:25
Could "theft" be added, please?

I love cooking. I chose the trade at the start primarily to avoid alchemy/herbs because of my past experience as a concoctionist in Achaea. I always hated it. However, cooking has become a great rp tool for me with my character. Cooking isn't just a trade to her, it's a part of who she is and everyone knows it. I don't need specialized recipes to whip up a picnic for two or to cater a wedding. As for wedding cakes, I did have one designed had it made public as there were no wedding cakes for anyone. Piping is also a wonderful tool for wedding cakes. Just ask Skyla and Gregori about theirs.
Unknown2005-08-09 03:34:32
When i was a cook, i think i had the most piped cake, it had like 20-30 lines or so on it, twas more amusing since the line was screwed back then, or is now, and everytime i piped on it, it looked like i was forging.

Tailoring isn't as bad as you make it out to be. Sure, it's much better if you have a shop, like me (I make a killing on it, since I tend to forget how much I spent on comms by the time the profit comes back). Anyone I know is welcome to sell clothing or any other items to me to stock in the shop (though I prefer to stock my own clothes, being a trans-tailor/mythical-artist). If you do private designs, you can make a fair bit from people wanting tailored clothes or wedding outfits.
I chose tailoring way back at the start because I ALWAYS hated the clothes on Achaea/Aetolia (and a lot of the Imperian stuff, too). I knew I could do it better than those, so I did so, and a fair portion of the clothing designs we have out now are my own.
Anyhows, we don't need more tailors in the game once I get back from this enforced hiatus *discourages everyone* I can do it allllllll! (And Veonira and Jasper a few others, maybe, but still....)
Anyhows... for all those boring shopkeepers in Magnagora, one of you needs to sell me your shop. I feel the urge to buy another shop.

I've found that there are far too few cooks, and almost no poisonists. This makes me sad.
But hey, you know what you can all do? Join a private cartel!
Check these out:
The Black Anvil Forging Cartel (clanhelp blackanvil)
The Fates' Thread Tailoring Cartel (clanhelp fates)
The Dragon's Hoard Jewelry Cartel (clanhelp hoard)
Clockwork Craftwork Artisan Cartel (clanhelp craftwork)
Twilight Delights Cooking Cartel (clanhelp delights)
Also, The Merchant's Guild is working on a tradehall (and by them, I really mean funded completely by me : ( ) in Deepnight. It has a room for every tradeskill, and will eventually have artifacts. I'm working on getting furniture and room descriptions in there right now.
If you're a trans merchant, see me about joining The Merchant's Guild, if you've got any one of those five tradeskills, you might want to join a cartel, and if you're a cook, you're badly needed right now.

Hmm, I used to have herbs, but now I've got enchantments.. My question...what in the world are them spices for? They were bloody annoying when I was trying to harvest useful things.. Meh...
Gwylifar2005-09-02 16:39:43
Cooks use them.
Malicia2005-09-02 16:59:48
I'm a transed smith, although I don't advertise much. It isn't a particulary fun trade as it isn't very profitable, comms are hard to find and reforging for that one magnificent weapon frustrates me!
Having fullplate is nice though.
