Dennis better not turn west, or I'm a drowned puppy *pulls out the pirogue and prepares to paddle*

Actually, I hope Dennis keeps west a bit. I'd love to see some 10 year floods in the Ozarks before I go down there. Not to mention I don't want to drive through it on Monday.

Ehehe... It's supposed to partially pass me. Y'know, there's supposed to be an average of 26 years between storms like Ivan and Dennis.

hm..I don't think Dennis is that bad.. I mean, it's barely raining here.
Xavius2005-07-11 03:21:28
Joli, aren't you supposed to be in, like, Nebraska? Somewhere not covered with a radar blip the size of three states?

Living in Florida, I can only express abject horror over this hurricane season. For those of you whom live outside the country, or up north, who do not deal with hurricanes on a regular basis, especially for your entire lives, it may not be a surprise for a serious cat 4 (it was 6 miles an hour off from a cat 5, the strongest there can be ) to be rolling out of the Carib., but for those of us who live here, it's an extremely bad omen. It is only July 9th, and they're comin' - and they're swingin'.
The peak of Hurricane season is not until Septemberish. As it stands, TD #5 and TD#6 are coming off Africa, both predicted to become named storms. Only cat 1 or 2 hurricanes before floundering off into the Atlantic, but for the informed, this would be like... Hmm. I can't honestly think of a good comparison. I guess for the superstitious, it would be like a cat crossing your path, just as you pass under a ladder, become surprised by the cat, nudge the ladder, and knock about fifteen mirrors off, which go falling to the ground with a symphony of glas-shatter.
For the thick headed - Africa does not produce *NAMED* storms until mid-late August. Rarely, if ever. The Carib. normally doesn't until late July - and they rarely are strong, if they come before then. For the record, TDs (tropical depressions) #s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are what we've had so far - 1, 2, 3, 4 have all been named storms, 5 is rolling off the coast of Africa, and 6 is right behind it - 6 may not be a TD yet, might still be a wave, but won't be for long. Don't remember what 1 and 2 were, but 3 was Cindy, 4 was Dennis, 5 and 6 will be Emily and Franklin, I do believe.
Anyway. I've been without power since Friday night, 8 pm eastern. Thankfully, the city where I work has power - so there's air conditioning here. The DSL is down throughout the area, however I am able to dial in through my cell phone service (I love Cingular. Did I mention I got the pretty new black V3 MotoRazor? First one sold in the county! Woo), and can charge my laptop and cell phone off of my car battery.
Sadly, other people were not so lucky. Being the philoanthropist that I am, I was delivering gallon jugs of water in 60-70 mile an hour winds. The most amusing thing I saw (I took pictures!) was a sail boat was caught under someone else's dock - sank, but the mast was banging and damaging their house. That won't be a fun insurance claim!

My power's been out since Sunday.
Got a generator though. It's slightly used and I don't trust it to play Lusternia with anyways.

I love ya Vixes, and in case you haven't heard, Emily is predicted to follow the same path. =\\

It's been named for over twenty-four hours. Although the more recent predictions have her going a bit more south, so hopefully we'll be spared of Emily. Dare we hope for the same from Franklin? And ANOTHER NASTY wave is coming off Africa.

I cannot think of anything better than a Thy Dungeon Man quote. I mean, we all love a man whom runs around in a loin cloth wielding a mop and cleaning up a dungeon.
