When is @#$% Acceptable?

There are only eleven times in history when the "F" word has been considered acceptable for use.

They are as follows:

11. "What the @#$% do you mean, we are sinking?"

-- Capt. E.J. Smith of RMS Titanic, 1912

10. "What the @#$% was that?"

-- Mayor Of Hiroshima, 1945

9. "Where did all those @#$%ing Indians come from?"

-- Custer, 1877

8. "Any @#$%ing idiot could understand that."

-- Einstein, 1938

7. "It does so @#$%ing look like her!"

-- Picasso, 1926

6. "How the @#$% did you work that out?"

-- Pythagoras, 126 BC

5. "You want WHAT on the @#$%ing ceiling?"

-- Michelangelo, 1566

4. "Where the @#$% are we?"

-- Amelia Earhart, 1937

3. "Scattered @#$%ing showers, my ass!"

-- Noah, 4314 BC

2. "Aw c'mon. Who the @#$% is going to find out?"

-- Bill Clinton, 1998

and a drum roll please............!

Amelia Earheart was the first woman pilot to fly solo over the Atlantic. In 1937 she went on a journey to fly around the world, but was lost in the Pacific looking for a tiny island she was supposed to land on as a refuel point and likely ran out of fuel or crash-landed in either the sea or some uninhabited island, hence the "Where the @#$% are we?"

I seriously can't believe you've never heard of her... maybe she's just more of an American icon. Do a google search, there's tons of theories regarding her mysterious disappearance.

Never heard of her. Probably an American icon, yes.

What is wrong with you people! Do they teach you nothing in school?

Other than how to drink tea properly, eat a good biscuit, and perfect your silly accents?

Soll is going crazy.
Soll2005-07-08 15:14:35
I disagree.

Careful, I will start singing Tori Amos songs.

There is nothing better than a sexy Englishman talking...about anything (talking about Tori Amos...that would be pretty damn hot).

Then again, American accents are hot too.

And which kind of American accent? There are nice southern accents, hick southern accents, boston, new york, california surfer dude, and us in the northwest don't have accents. happy.gif

Not southern, that's too close to being Tasmanian. Hmm, not New York either, all the accents from there that I've heard remind me too much of my Australian Jewish friend Deborah who was raised in Thailand. Boston...yeah I think I like those. Californian accents annoy me I think, from memory.
Murphy2005-07-08 15:59:50

Seeing as I'm just now trying to recover from a severe depression resulting from the ridiculous workload from my Understanding the British Isles survey course, thanks for demonstrating that there are SOME things I know that others don't, as opposed to the (much more common) vice versa. orc.gif

(As an aside note, the more I work my way through my material, the more I grasp why that course is labeled UNDERSTANDING the British Isles, rather than getting to know, or, something. yeah...)
