What would everyone here consider reasonable for a health refill?

I've heard all the talk about how an alchemist could make a killing on todays market, but as soon as you try to up your prices a little people scoff and decide not to buy.
Terenas2005-07-09 03:04:21
I don't find it unreasonable to pay 500 for a health refill from a Trans Alchemist, around 400 for a non-Trans.
Navaryn2005-07-09 03:04:46
Something between 180-200

Edit: Since Terenas makes me sound cheap, the above price seems to be the average for health refills when i ask any alchemist.
Terenas2005-07-09 03:07:35
It costs- galingale 8 sargassum 2 juniper 1 yarrow 1

From one of the cheapest herbs ads-

galingale- 9 per
sargassum- 10 per
juniper- 7 per
yarrow- 10 per

Total for herbs alone- 109 gold.

I sure as hell won't be charging anything less than 300 gold for a refill if it costs me that much for the ingredients.

180-200 is still the average charge, yes, but alchmists have been charging that for ages. We need a freaking way to smack all the alchemists upside the head to make them charge more. We all charge more, we all earn more.

Oh and I just tried to charge 300 for some health refills and got told it was too expensive. Heh.

Laugh at them, say "Good luck then" and walk away. Give them a day or two to sit there, doing absolutely nothing, cause they can't find an alchemist. Then offer them again at 300. They'll run to you begging wink.gif
Singollo2005-07-09 03:13:37
I'd pay up to 300 gold for a refill, after that, forget about it.

That's hard to do when we still have people charging 150-175 for a refill :S. I know they are totally welcome to charge that, but damn, it is just silly.
Thorgal2005-07-09 03:19:29
I pay 300 per refill, even if they ask less. biggrin.gif

Makes them more eager to refill for me again later.
Acrune2005-07-09 03:20:52
400-500 gold? Screw that, I'd go to Bob first and wait for a cheaper refiller to refill all the leftover empties. I might pay 300 gold if I were really desperate, but I probably wouldn't go back to that alchemist again if I could avoid it. I wouldn't price above 250, you guys could pretty much sit at the alembic all day and get good business, as everyone needs alchemy, which isn't true for any other tradeskill. (Unless Bob doesn't sell food, I forget. I dont have to eat anyways tongue.gif)
Xenthos2005-07-09 03:22:03
I buy health at 200 apiece. Since the herbs cost them less than 100 gold for a health refill from me... I see nothing wrong with something that takes them very little time or effort to do earning them twice as much as they paid for it. If you want more than that, you can pay ME more, or forget it.
Unknown2005-07-09 03:22:21
Can't really sit there all day filling. You'd be surprised how quick you go through herbs as alchemist.

Actually, i can understand your frustration. Today, when Soll was giving away his herbs, i managed to grab a few but unfortunately, they were mostly non-combat herbs such as sargassum, sage, rosehips and juniper. So i was told them to sell them an alchemist instead. I had a total of 750 herbs for sale.

First of all, I am no herbalist, so I had no idea what the average price for them were. I grabbed the first alchemist i could find and thought selling each of them for 50 gold was ok (total of 37 500)... apparently not, i learned that alchemist could quickly get the same amount of herbs for 3000 gold.

After a bit of banter, i sold all 750 of my herbs for 6000 gold. 6000 gold for 750 herbs. I'm just glad I got them for free and didn't have to harvest them all by myself happy.gif
Terenas2005-07-09 03:24:18
Yeah, I always tip people extra so they'll enchant, refill, or sells more stuffs to me later. Then again, I bash Astral frequently so I have gold to spare.
Xenthos2005-07-09 03:24:23
You have any idea how long it takes to gather those herbs, though? You buy the herbs from me, after I spend a full RL day harvesting. You sell at twice what you paid for, when you run out of herbs you've made just barely less than I did (powerstones + sugar), and have time left to go and do other things.
Unknown2005-07-09 03:26:08
You probably charge a little too little by the sounds of it Xenthos.

EDIT: And I'm not going to feel bad for making money from a herbalist's herbs. If a herbalist feels cheated they can charge more.
Eiru2005-07-09 03:34:19
I think alchemists are being push-overs.
Noone can live without elixirs, and herbalists have raised their prices, so should alchemists. I always feel bad when I get an alchemist to refill an order then I think about the profit they make, and I find that it's not that great.
You're not helping the economy any, Alchemists.

Nah, I'm not really being cheated. I charge very little, to help the Glomdoring. All I ask is, in return, I get refills at semi-decent prices- which I do! Apparently the alchemists who buy from me appreciate the herbs tongue.gif

If I sold to the general public, I'd agree with you. I'd be doing nothing but harvesting for junk wages. However, as I said, I just sell to the Glomdoring... keeps my market down, gives me time for myself and other things I need to do, helps strengthen my commune... hey, it seems to be good for everyone. biggrin.gif

That's fine and it's different from the normal situation of alchemist and buyer. I often make deals with herbalists, like half price herbs for some cost-price refills, or something like that.
Unknown2005-07-09 03:41:18
hrmm i just switched to Alchemy and am still learning more of the skill, but so far what I've been doing is look at the average prices and then charging around 20 gold below that tongue.gif as long as Glomdoring's benefiting and i'm making a profit somewhat then i'm good
