I've seen it happen quite a few times, shiri.

Yikes!
I prefer sleep much more than I like this game. Mmm, sleep...has to be the best thing ever.
Gwylifar2005-07-15 02:08:54
And then there's that thing about bringing OOC IC... no, wait, that's just me.
Sylphas2005-07-15 02:38:46
A dedicated playerbase is one thing, having a playerbase that is, for all effects, ALWAYS on, that's another. Who wants to play a game where you're automatically going to be weaker then your opponent because you actually sleep?
There's a certain point where I stop having respect for a hardcore player, and just start wanting to make them go to freaking bed.

Yeah, I'm surprised people can live that long without sleep.. Daevos needs to go to bed.. I'm wondering if he has a little fridge next to his compy or something.
Vesar2005-07-15 02:59:57
That's a pretty sad existance. It's one thing when you play a game that you like, but it's quite another when you let it control your life and even your sleeping cycle.
I'm serious when I say you should seek help if you can't stop letting the game run you like this.
As for using AIM or calling people to wake them up for influence or whatever.. that's pretty low.

I agree totally... I mean, I've done the same things on some games, but for a roleplaying game... I really dislike the idea of people calling people OOC for help. I don't know how much it happens in Celest, fortunately I've never seen it there (although maybe I'm not useful enough to call, haha ), but I know that Mag has done it a lot of times. One reason why they're so organised perhaps. I don't like that happening to be honest, and agree with Vesar, it's low.
As for Serenwilde claiming Stewartsville for a while... well... they're a commune, from what I heard, they keep villages for longer than cities... *shrugs*.
Gregori2005-07-15 12:18:26
Serenwilde has always held villages longer for two reasons.
1) We don't change our governement type for the sake of more power. Passive power is better for us, villages are a tithe source more than a power source for us.
2) We don't hold opposing villages causing a conflict of interest.
Celest monkeyed with its governing syle and went despotic for a short time, this has a factor on when the villages owned by Celest will revolt. Meanwhile SW holds the same steady course and its villages stay under them longer. I am shocked Stewartsville hasn't gone up yet, but I am not dissapointed as I am not sure SW will win it back even if it did go up. Unlike Magnagora's players as evidenced by Murphy. SW players know they are playing a game and actually go to bed or do things with thier lives other than hang around hoping their AIM will call them back into the game.

Actually Malicia told me to contact her via AIM if Shanthmark revolted. She needed something called rest or sleep, psh.
Sylphas2005-07-15 16:54:37
See, if I'm on IRC or MSN talking to Shiri or something, sure, lemme know, I'll hop on. But if I'm in bed, and someone calls me or something, I'l going to tell them to go themselves and go back to sleep. Maybe it's a good thing that the computer in my room doesn't have internet, and that I always turn AIM sounds off as soon as I install it.

Yeah.. if one of you called my house in the middle of the night telling me to come influence.. Not only would I be grounded for a long long time you'd probably hear several words you've never heard before.

I don't get whats wrong with wanting to play the game when exciting things are happening and asking your friends to let you know when such things occur.
I've seen people do worse things for sporting events and movies and concert tickets.

I know, but this is a game. When everyone has 3 influencers around, and then suddenly 10 more log in for Magnagora or something, it stops being at all fun. It's not exciting to stomp the crap out of everyone because you outnumber them three to one because you don't sleep.
I mean, it's great that you're dedicated and organized, but at some point it just starts being unfair for everyone else who shouldn't have to give their whole lives to a game for it to be balanced as it should.
Gwylifar2005-07-15 20:49:51
I don't have a problem with someone who wants to be here 22 hours a day and not sleep, but I do have a problem with someone calling someone who's not logged in to come log in because of a fight or influence, because I'm really keen on that whole "roleplaying" thing, and there's no in-character way to do it, so you can't do it. It's precisely the same to let yourself do something your character has no reason to do because of OOC knowledge, when it's you helping out an RL friend's character, or you choosing to do something because of a rumor you heard about a quest change, or because someone told you OOC that something was happening in the game you couldn't know IC. It's a slippery slope and it's, as much as people try to pretend otherwise, against the rules. That remains just as true when those rules are hard to enforce.
When you have to break the rules to win, you are admitting defeat. You're just choosing to play some other game you can win because you can't win this one.

Bah on you, Terenas, bah!
On a serious note, I've been a bit discouraged with how things are playing out in Lusternia and was taking a tiny break from it. My enjoyment dropped when Glomdoring came into existence. I did ask Terenas to let me know if our villages revolt, because I'd like to help out, if I'm at home and not doing anything else. Heh! Bad rp, I suppose.

You people whine about everything, everything, everything.
Against the rules? What the heck are you talking about?
