That is absolutley 100% correct. Until you learn self discipline, it will be imposed from an outside source.
Disrespect for superiors is one of the first things that gets beaten out of you, I remember someone calling a corporal "mate" during my person recruit training, and he gothis ass kicked to kingdom come.

God, I wish I could do that. I bet you someone would complain, and I'd get a talking to or something.

That's one of the reasons I don't go after the really annoying people in celest.. and I can't do crap because they are high ranking or whatever in their guild. I'm just really really tired of people using Lusternia as a super chatroom. Apparently the Pool of Stars is a good place to pick up chicks and this will stop or I will start removing limbs (starting with the shortest, of course Murph )

richter, the story about calling a corporal mate was me RL army training

Ok ..my last rant on this thread, much to the relief of many of you, I am sure.
We may not share many of the same views, but this game is not as freedom oriented as it first seems. You step into the land, and get bombarded by help files to read telling you how to act, and what you can or cannot do. That seems to limit freedoms that encourage RP from many angles. Just my opinion.
This MUD is very very well done from a technical standpoint, I give Iron Realms a big thumbs up for that.
I would like to point out, that all though many here seem to dislike Archaea (never played it myself), it is on top of the mud site lists, while Lusternia seems to be slipping. Just looking at the bigger picture than all of us.
Thanks for all the input good and bad. That is what makes the world go round.
P.S. Military Search and Rescue, Gulf War, been under fire, I know a little about discipline.

Commenting from the perspective of someone who has to deal with the 'problem' novices, while our help files may be quite scary at first (especially if someone simply gives you a whole screed of them to read instead of explaining what they want you do actually do), they are, unfortunately necessary.
Some people would say that simple, common decency would, for instance, prevent people wandering around spewing foul language. It does not, and so we have HELP LANGUAGERULES.
Each of those help and policy files has been developed to respond to a problem that has occurred.
We do hope that it does actually make the game more enjoyable, as opposed to less, and if you do have questions that you'd rather were answered by talking to someone rather than reading files, I would suggest talking with one of us, or one of the Fate Guides.
We're not that scary. Well, except for Lisaera.

Achaea has been around much much longer, since 1997. If you want to compare, compare with Imperian (a year and a half older than Lusternia) or Aetolia (3 years older) since Lusternia has only publicly for around one year compared to those two.
Maedhros2005-07-14 03:11:18
Oh no, Lusternia isn't the same as Achaea but Achaea is on the top of the MUD listings!
That means we should make an exact clone of Achaea, so IRE can have 2 identical games and have them both on the top of the listings! OMG genious idea!
Sarcasm aside, Lusternia does not WANT to be like Achaea. We have Achaea to be Achaea. Lusternia is Lusternia. Some players (most) will like Achaea's carefree atmosphere better, but that doesn't mean Lusternia has to clone Achaea. Variety.

Being on the top of the list really means nothing. Seriously. Aardwolf? *barf*
Maedhros2005-07-14 03:22:33
That is seriously the worst game I have -ever- played. At least they have a decent client, unlike many of the MUDs out there...

You know how lost I was when I started Aetolia (and Lusternia in beta)? Man, I'm -glad- someone gave me stuff to read. Also, the real world has rules. This game world emulates a eral world to a certain degree, therefore, rules. Chaos, disorder, and running around like a chicken with its head cut off is bad.

Achaea is what, six years old?

Yup. It's called Aetolia.
I'm not sure how asking you to read help files restricts RP - seems to me that it makes RP sense to have rules and organization in a guild, no?
