Look to the right and left of the portal in my pic... They may be a bit to perky, but I tried!
Shoshana2005-07-15 09:14:13
... You mean those shapes in the portal weren't a product of my twisted imagination?

None of you people have succeeded at mimicing the artist's style at this point, I warrant to say no one has even come remotely close to his style and as such none of you are keeping to the original assignment.

Please add abnormally sized breasts somewhere in your pictures.

...Shall I ask them to add a playboy bunny exiting the Portal of Fates? She took a wrong turn - she opened door 69, instead of door 3. Damn one-track minds, right? I'm sure Lusternia would be the better for it.

Or how about those teenagers who are willing to do anything, that Sylphas' signature talks about? I'm sure some of them would be willing to get breast implants for the painting.

*ponders* I suppose if you try really hard you could interpret my picture to look like a giant flaming vagina halo.gif

I knew I should have skipped the Freudian course in my Psych class XD

Just light Virgo on fire. I have it on good authority that the sphere itself is actually female legs spread apart. I won't comment on the mound of warm flesh - perhaps this is the basement entrance to the Shallamar Bubble, on Astral?
Gwylifar2005-07-15 21:02:58
Hmm, are you thinking of the same section of Hamlet as I am, about "Fortune's privates"?

I like the hieroglyphics/runes smile.gif

Eh, why not. Here's my computer-monkey's rendering of the portal of fate, sans diet pepsi. biggrin.gif Turned out a bit too dark, now that I'm looking at it on a computer other than the one I created it on.

Hey, Daganev.. I don't want to be a punk or something, but oddly enough the base of your portal of fate looks exactly like the one for the nexus of power on lusternia.com for the Magnagora Megalith.. Do you not know what plagiarism is, or have I mistaken something?
Daganev2005-07-19 17:52:05
I'm still looking for a better site but this pretty much sums it up...

QUOTE(http://www.wjcc.k12.va.us/jhs/faculty/facultywebpages/StephensonB/portfoliosyllabuspage.htm)
ORIGINALITY AND INTEGRITY
While the use of appropriated images is common in the professional art world today, many colleges and art schools continue to stress strongly the value of working from direct observation. Since they aspire to college-level work, Art students who make use of borrowed images must demonstrate a creativity and sophistication of approach that transcends mere copying. This policy is clearly stated on the AP Studio Art poster: "If you submit work, which makes use of photographs, published images, and/or other artists' works, you must show development beyond duplication. This may be demonstrated through manipulation of the material(s), formal qualities, design, and/or concept of the original work."
In evaluating portfolios, the faculty consultants look for original thinking. Students are encouraged to create artworks from their own knowledge, experiences, and interests.
Copying work in any medium without significant and substantial manipulation is an infringement on the original artist's rights and can constitute plagiarism. Teachers and students are strongly encouraged to become knowledgeable about copyright laws. The growth in the use of computer software, scanners, xerography, and photography makes this issue of particular concern.
Universities, colleges, and professional schools of art have rigorous policies regarding plagiarism. The AP Studio Art program endorses these policies.

Definition of the word ORIGINAL:

1. never having occurred before; fresh; new; novel
2. Capable of or given to inventing OR creating something new OR thinking OR acting in an independent, individual, fresh way.
3. An original work, as in art or literature, as distinguished from a reproduction, copy, etc.

Synonyms (words that mean the same) of the word ORIGINAL:

(Creative) – imaginative, inventive, innovative, ingenious, inspiring, conceiving, productive

(Not copied) – first, new, fresh, novel, genuine, un copied, one, authentic, pure, unique

Everything I make is made out of appropriated images or some kind of mechanical reproduction. Technically, this is true of any image created on the computer not done pixel by pixel (such as MS paint.. Go IALIE!). (Although that claim is fairly insulting to most artists, its what they teach)

Nevertheless, you may find the shade of purple to be different, and there to be yellow where none existed in the original.

I think the rim all around is fire. Otherwise, I absolutely 100% love it.

But it's not the exact same style. I still love it.
Daganev2005-07-19 18:28:45
I think its the one that most closely fits his style if the image was cropped more.

But it has too many innacuracies for me tongue.gif

Whats with people putting glyphs on the floor?

Perhaps it's Fate-side?
Chiba2005-07-19 21:42:59
I love it all except for the portal itself, which should be the focal point, but the room detracts from it. I think it's the fire that's doing it, check out the fire on the pool of stars.

I misread the desc and thought they were supposed to be there? tongue.gif Anyway it would've looked odd with a plain grey floor. I'll claim artistic license!

This was cool, I liked seeing everyone's interpretation of the same thing. And thanks to everyone who liked mine. smile.gif

Yeah, I'd definitely say Kai's looks the most similar, but like Estarra said, who knows what will win. Ultimately, if I had to provide constructive criticism for Kai's, the flames should go, or get someone that does flame well to help you. Currently it looks like little lighter flames were randomly inserted in the floor and it detracts from the overall scene. The ones on the side do appear to be more in place.

Everyone else, too harsh, the original style was very soft, almost realistic cartoonish. Most of the edges are softened and the overall coloring is very blended.

I like Iraen's. Good go.
