Samurais were known for wielding two swords. And I'm sure there were others though not anyone 'famous' I guess.. though Lancelot in Arthur did and he was more about precision and finesse than battering anyone. I just think giving all power races the weapons kind of further supports the theory of being a Str Knight over A speed knight

has anyone tested bashing with the new weapons and such yet?

Actually, my one gripe about this is how they gave us nice Greatswords, Bastards, and Claymores (all straight blade and double edged two handed swords) then seemed to run out of ideas and threw in Katanas (single edged, single handed, curved blade) to finish off sad.gif

I threw in katanas second (after first putting in claymore while considering purchasing one IRL) because katanas are damned cool. (Claymores are my second favourite sword.) I always associate them with swift kung-fu warriors. And they are not always single-handed:

It is also similar to blademaster having a scimitar, which differs from the other swords in that it is single-bladed and curved. Incidentally, bastardsword and greatsword were 3rd and 4th to be thought of respectively.
Laysus2005-07-16 23:57:05
True, but katanas would fit better in with standard blade. They hardly fit with greatswords in the great = big context :/
Unknown2005-07-17 00:01:11
Perhaps you're thinking of the one-handed katanas, but Roark is right on this account. Most two-handed katanas (usually used by Samurai or the occasional ninja) are pretty damn big and would be near impossible to hold one-handed unless you possessed great wrist strength.

Plus we'd have people screaming ninja if they would dual wield small katanas.
Laysus2005-07-17 00:04:21
I still prefer the idea (just taken from IRC) of having a duelist spec. - i.e. katana and wakizashi, rapier and main-gauche, that sort of thing.

edit: Plus, if you had a Katana that size, and weight, bastard would still probably be faster, as the bastard was usually one-handed wielding but with a longer hilt so two could be used when neccessary.

Well in Lusternia they make the bastards bigger. tongue.gif I always thought a bastard was on par with a broadsword for size...

Err.. Yes? Samurai's often fought either two-handed katana, or single-handed. But it was not rare for someone to fight with two.

The term "samurai" is over-used anyway. The way she's using it, yes. The way it's intended to be used, Samurai's were also ranged warriors.

This article talks about Musashi founding a fighting school using two katanas, and also makes reference to a single sword style. So I think you can find evidence of samurai (in the loosest sense of the word) using anything from a single katana, katana and wakizashi or tanto, as well as two katanas.

According to that article though, Musashi fought mostly with just a wooden sword! pound.gif

Samurai carried more weapons than Shikari, they fought with two swords, they fought with one, and they fought with ranged. They were all around bad-asses.

The new styles do sound pretty cool, but it would be nice to have the variety of a sword and shield style too. So far I have only noticed non warriors carrying shields. I don't really know enough about combat yet, but is a sword and shield using warrior viable at all presently? It would seem a shame if not, as it was historically the most popular knightly fighting style.

Kharvik raises his an enormous gorgog over his head and begins to swing it in a
wide circle, gaining speed as he goes.

Kharvik begins to bear down on you with his whirling a steel claymore sword.
2672h, 3170m, 3520e, 10p elrxp-
You roll on the floor, laughing.
2672h, 3170m, 3520e, 10p elrxp-
A roar of triumph bursts from Kharvik and with horrified realization, you watch
as he brings his whirling a steel claymore sword towards your neck, severing
your head from your body. The last thing you see before death is your own
crumpling body, neck spitting blood like a fountain.
You have been slain by Kharvik.
A swirling force begins to tug at your soul and the world spins around you.

Heh!

the katana thing i like. what better blade than the one that was perfected over centuries, that was mastered to the point of being exceptionally swift, and that was regarded by some as a handheld guillotine. excellent choice for a weapon made for speed and damage, since it was made to cut off the heads of enemies. behead.gif
