I was wondering with the new weapons and skillsets if they were more of a PvP skillset or if they were good with bashing too.
Syrienne2005-07-18 02:59:42
Considering many are still waiting on Masterwork weapons its hard to say yet.
Arundel2005-07-18 03:27:49
With the double damage stats, I'd imagine that it'd be almost the same, except for two things:
1) If you miss your one swing, you're done for that one.
2) Longer recovery, less time to run or shield.

Xenthos2005-07-18 03:45:39
Actually, the Katana can get about the same speed as rapiers, so the recovery really isn't that much longer.

It is a two-handed weapon.

This is looking fun. I'm going to have to trans planar and work on getting lvl 80 or so before these 2 handers don't hit for almost all of my life in a single swing.
Shiri2005-07-18 04:09:12
On the plus side, their to hit is the same so when they miss, they miss PROPERLY. I'm not TOO worried...
Unknown2005-07-18 04:11:11
Imagine if they use puissance. I guess it really will need to be fixed, no doubt. They can puissance someone to death in no time with that kind of damage.

Yeah, in one single blow, Shiro brought me down to 76 or 73 on one of my leg. Time to get some armor i guess...

PLEASE tell me what I've heard about them not having lunge/crush is true.
Terenas2005-07-18 05:05:37
The only power using abilities they have are their Trans abilities, and Roundhouse (Axelord's Trans skill) apparently does not go through rebounding as well.
Cleaving goes through shield and rebounding though, but it's almost double the balance compared to a normal strike anyway. Faster to just switch to two weapons, double raze, then switch back and swing.

You do realize a claymore hitting you for 1K damage and 10 wounds is the same as two broadswords hitting you for 500 damage and 5 wounds each, except with double the wound afflictions and venoms?
A broadsword doing 500 damage and 5 wounding really isn't overpowered is it? Do be of any worth through dodging, parrying and missing, a claymore will have to be doing 1500+ damage a blow and 20 wounds, else your target isn't going to die, ever.
At that, weak armour should protect more against wounds, and strong armour less.

Syntobis, with a basic two-handed axe and no training in Axelord other than having chosen the skill set, was able to hit me for 25 wounds with each swing. The damage was negligible, as I am a warrior myself, but that is some nasty wounding for someone with a non-masterwork weapon and no training in the skill.
I can see how this would mean that hunting is not so easy, however, especially if you need to raze a shield. Wounding does nothing to the mobiles, so you'd need more damage for hunting.

Cleaving goes through shield and rebounding and also breaks them. I don't see how that isn't great for bashing.
Daganev2005-07-18 19:40:37
I have seen newbies allready asking for claymores... I think their really high damage may make them great for novices to bash.
Unknown2005-07-18 19:46:55
I think if you have a Newbie that wants to take his native blade then he should be given that instead of two swords. I think that would help them bash and get started early on an RP foundation.

well in the ebonguard you can't wield steel till after you pass novicehood, so we need to design some practice claymores.

thats always kinda bothered me about the Ebonguard you won't give them steel but razor sharp wood...i would hurt myself with the wood as much as the steel if not more due to splinters.
