Aquamancer staffs do much higher damage than geomancers, at least in my experience. Acrune could nearly kill me in two or three hits. I think it depends on a lot of things, anyways.

The thing is, you could probably do the same to me, as I have low health in exchange for hitting hard with the staff. People forget that a lot when they say we should be able to fight out of our demesne because of our staff's power. We need the demesne to disrupt a little attacking so we can catch up on healing.
I am sorry I missed the war games. Sounded like fun. Make more!
Revan2005-08-22 08:02:48
Why'd this turn into another demesne discussion? Geez, you're all obsessed
Anyway, I missed the Wargames, though I hope to hop into the next one. And for your info, Veo, I -can- fight out of my demesne, thank you very much

I missed them too
is there a vague time when event like thing most likely occur?

I had a thought of peacing the whole arnea while waiting for the wargames to start. Thus a mage would not be able to make a demesne until the game starts. Obviously that would be unfair in a FFA. But in this case it would mean the team would need to back up the mage in a coordinated effort to create a good demesne "fort", and so it creates a focus on teamwork.
Opinions?

Sounds good, Roark!
Niara2005-08-22 11:42:45
Perfect idea, Roark. That way demesnes would be still an option but the demesner wouldn't have much time to create any large one.
Amaru2005-08-22 11:45:41
I like that idea, Roark, but a team with more than one Mage would then have an advantage.
Personally I still think (bear with me) that the best way to make fair teams is a school sports team style picking... say, everyone is put in a room on arrival, 3 people are randomly made leaders and proceed to take it in turns to choose people. Any other system, such as the suggested 'join any team but not team with so many people' option.. could still be abused.
I enjoyed the wargame I played, but it was dampened a little by the imbalance in team strengths. I would have liked more of a challenge. That said, it was fun playing alongside people like Kaervas and Veonira for a change.

i didn't get to play in any of the wargames, but from what i heard they were good, but because of demense's boring, ohh well i'd still like to play one.

Oh yeah I thought When I graduated I would be past the scarring life experience of being picked last.
Veonira2005-08-22 16:40:43
What Kaileigh said!
Well actually, I never got picked last because I was an athlete, but still!
Amaru2005-08-22 18:14:01
Come on, being picked last just encourages people to become better.

And next time, if everyone isn't on the teams they want to be on, or some of the teams are overpowered, dont wait 15 minutes to start. Just give them a warning, then start it up. We were sitting around doing nothing, and sure enough, as soon as our wisper and coven leader decides to walk off, he gets killed and the match starts before he can rejoin.Â
170257
Yeah, give us a warning before it starts, so we won't think "Ooh, someone playing with our demesne" And have the event start 2 seconds before the moonbeam goes through

you mages/druids always say that. The main difference is, that a warrior's weapons or a nihilsts demon doesn't affect a total area, they can only target one person at a time.
This is in the name of fun, so yes druids may suffer a little. Like i said the option would be customisable as in able to be turned on and off
Tenqual got it right, have the effects able to be cast, just no melding.

I walk in, you as a warrior can attack me immediately.
A nihilist walks in, they can use their skills to attack me immediately.
Demesne takes time to set up and the effects are timed, so its always fun to watch them run out right in the middle of a fight. The only way I'd agree to what you propose is if the effects move with you, otherwise you'd have the same crap with camping as no mage would move from the mass of effects they had to set up.
As for your other point, the Geomancers usually have like an 80-90 on members score...and you point out that 2 of us can fight outside a demesne? Two whole people. I know Ur'guard that can probably win a fight with 1 weapon, but that doesn't mean I'm going to say they should all fight with one weapon. I believe the point of people arguing with your idea was more based on the fact you remove an entire skillset when you remove demesnes. Think about what it would be like to fight without your main skillset...not very fun.

Look at the bright side. Less pressure.
Veonira2005-08-22 22:03:21
I've come to the conclusion that you you shouldn't be able to meld until the wargames starts. It's more fair for everyone.
Estarra2005-08-22 23:00:49
We've just run 3-member team wargames. What's your opinion on the smaller teams?
Ashteru2005-08-22 23:15:45
Great! With three, it's much more intense than anything else.
But I killed Munsia in the second one right after she joined...-.-

I've noticed a few problems in the wargames I've been in.
The biggest one is regarding demesne melding. Before the wargames even started, when people were joining teams, people were breaking my melds and illusioning the terrain.
Any offensive action should be impossible before they are declared to have started.

Tsk! Not sure how it did that...
Torak2005-08-22 23:30:11
You shouldn't be able to pre-demense it if you ask me. Its annoying starting out surrounded fully by a geo demesne without the mage to break it.
