Do you have the skill in Artisan to put locks on containers?
Kariol2005-07-19 18:36:55
After you have 'Locksmith' in Artisan, get 5-6 Iron and 'LOCKWORK LOCK BOX FOR ', 'LOCKWORK KEY FOR BOX', 'LOCKWORK WORK FOR '

That'll create the lock first, then a key, and then set the key for that lock.

You know, this whole key thing could open the way to a treasure hunt I wanted to do.

It says you have to do lockwork box for person, but if you make a bunch of keys, can anyone open it?

Artisans who have the locksmith ability can tell you that when you get a key for a container and furniture piece, it is VERY secure in that even the locksmith couldn't sneak an extra copy of the key without your knowing.

However, once made, anyone can use the key (so it's pretty important to keep keys safe). You can also get a locksmith to make you multiple keys to a container tuned to you if you want to hand out keys to people.

How would they be able to find out if the artisan kept a copy of the key for himself? And how far up in Artisan is locksmith?
Richter2005-07-19 21:02:38
Expect to see a Richter-sponsored treasure hunt then!

It's impossible for the Artisan to make a copy for himself (unless the container/furniture is tuned to the Artisan). This is so his or her customers may feel secure to get keys made.
Richter2005-07-19 21:07:32
What, does it place it in the person its-being-made-for's inventory?
Kariol2005-07-19 21:08:37
When you make a copy of the key you immediately pass it to the person that the furniture the key is for is attuned to. Exmaple(Lame messages):

Lockwork Lock Box for Richter
You attune a box to Richter.

Lockwork key for Box
You make a key and hand it to Richter(Because box is attuned to Richter).

Lockwork work key11111 for Box
You attune a key for a box and hand it to Richter(Because box and key are attuned to Richter).

Atleast, that's how it works from my PoV.
Richter2005-07-19 21:09:59
So, every time a key is tuned for my box, they automatically hand it to me?
Kariol2005-07-19 21:15:52
Yeap. Quite annoying because then the key has to be handed back so it can be attuned to open the piece of furniture. Safer, though
Stangmar2005-07-19 21:30:32
they should make it so the key goes into the customer's inventory when it's tuned to the box. And still, how far up in Artisan is it?
Stangmar2005-07-19 21:32:51
or or or, i could set it to me, but give the box and 1 key to the customer.
Richter2005-07-19 21:45:22
A good fix would be that the artisan could just do LOCKWORK KEY as many times as you wanted. You could produce a million keys if it suited you. But then they would do LOCKWORK KEY FOR BOX123 FOR RICHTER. Then it gives the key to me, and it would not be possible for them to have one. It would also make it so that I would not have to give it back to them every time.

Once that was done, I could give keys to whomever I wanted.

Would it be possible to replace the NPC locksmiths with PC locksmiths now, and free up a shop spot in the cities/communes? Or would the coding involved be a real pain?

Wouldn't that be a tad dangerous? Since you would openly give someone the ability to raid someone's shop and the like?
Richter2005-07-20 00:01:00
LOCKWORK KEY FOR GLOMSHOP_1 FOR *person* (can only be owner)

Other person has to AGREE

Puts it in the other person's inv.

*chin* Has potential. Would be nice to remove more NPC merchants.
Sylphas2005-07-20 02:06:29
Well, it has no potential for abuse then player locksmithing does now with your containers. Which is apparently very little, at least on the locksmiths end. If you don't take care of your keys, well, that's your fault, and nothing not doable now.
Unknown2005-07-20 04:19:15
Well sinces NPC locksmiths only reproduce keys for the owner of the key, and PC artisans only create the keys for the owner, there's no reason they should be removed, artisans cant reproduce keys for doors, the npc's can.
