On languages, I don't like the "I know all languages" handwave, but I'd like to have the option to learn languages, via lessons or some other means, one language at a time.

Right now I have come from two directions to the need to be able to cut wood.  I can't get a woodsman's axe since forgers can only make axes for battle, which is just one of a jillion obstacles before my attempts to roleplay the entirely harmless act of raising a totem pole.  Meanwhile, I can't help noticing the entire world's wood production is enough for about four tables a year.  So the fate of furniture depends entirely on whether existing stockpiles will be consumed before existing initial furniture needs -- if not, it'll never catch up.  This seems odd, particularly for those of us who live in a forest without any trees but sacred ones, and without any axes but war ones.

Arts needs skills to make "stuff".  Objects of no particular importance other than roleplaying, no coded functionality, from candles to toys to musical instruments to festive party decorations.

We need a way to see descriptions of objects that are visibly being worn by people.

Personally I think people would speak more in their racial language if there was a charm or something, because then they wouldn't be constantly told to speak common and wouldn't have to constantly switch between languages.

I'd hate for there to be an artifact or spell that allowed you to understand everyone. I like making snide remarks in Elfen when I'm surrounded by annoying Magnagorans!
Sylphas2005-07-20 05:41:09
The only way you're probably truly going to see widespread use of racial languages, and have languages matter at all, is to have some drawback to using common.

QUOTE(Kashim @ Jul 19 2005, 04:22 PM)
Why? Maybe as an artifact. In Aetolia, Tekals could understand all languages. But if it's common, it can make the idea of multiple languages quite useless?
I don't like the idea, languages are not widely used already anyway...

Changelings should automatically be able to understand all languages.

As much as that cameo is.. might as well. cool.gif

I've been wanting two things for a long long time now.

The most important is the ability in enchantment to create mushroom sigil equivalents. Any junk that gets flamed and dropped is there for ages, the most annoying thing being Nejii's damn necklace at the pentagram in Celest. Give me a way to blow up flamed junk, not just disenchanting sigils.

Also, enchantments like mercy and perfection that regenerate Endurance and Willpower.

And I think they wouldn't, because what's the point if almost anyone can understand you anyway. There would still be RP value, but limited heavily by the fact it wouldn''t serve any real purpose.

Umm... I know they're expensive but what they already do is enough, imho.

I'd love some spell or ability that let you toggle whether vials can be poked by their gem type or not... for instance, when trying to do the quest on Spectre Isle, you have to push gem buttons. You have to put ALL YOUR VIALS AWAY to push them, (push onyx pushes the vial and not the button). I believe the same issue occurs when trying to use gems instead of vials, though I'm not positive.
Unknown2005-07-21 02:47:59
Well.. how about vial just be for vials and gem type for gems? I remember doing jewelry for awhile and I agree.. it was really stupid (No ability. Just a code fix).
Shiri2005-07-21 02:48:12
That should really be a function, not a spell.

Hmm...how about a thirdeye enhancer that worked if your opponent was on the same planar layer (or even better, meshed with cosmicsense?)
Sylphas2005-07-21 07:59:42
I want CosmicSense to enable me to tell on survey the room that a rift goes to, not just the plane.
Thorgal2005-07-21 10:22:34
Farsight...and..

..farsight, and also:

..farsight, let's not forget about farsight either.

So yeah, farsight.

I can't remember if anyone said worm glance, but...worm glance.

Also something to let sprint go through cows.
Alger2005-07-21 11:05:12
hypersight! sad.gif can we have lifevision in necromancy?
Shiri2005-07-21 11:24:36
HEY! Why did my post not appear. angry.gif

Anyway: Hmm, I could be wrong, but isn't lifevision just for seeing through hide? Which we don't have, only shroud?
Unknown2005-07-21 13:08:41
Lifevision is one of the best abilities in Achaea, in my opinion. Let's you see through roughly a third of all illusions and shows you hidden, shrouded, or ghosted people in the room.

I really like the ideas about learning other languages, and I think it should be more of a roleplaying thing than in Achaea. Not everyone should be able to learn every language, or at least not easily. It should be harder for a Viscanti to learn Elfen than for a Faeling to learn it, for example.

With the advent of Psionics, I can see the need for enchantments that regenerate willpower and endurance.

Being able to create miscellaneous trinkets in Arts would be awesome.

I feel that Discipline needs more abilities because learning a few hundred lessons to get to that next ability is a bit depressing. I can't think of what might go in it right now, but since it was already mentioned that Environment could use a boost, I thought I'd put my two cents in about Discipline, which has far fewer abilities.

Discipline's also essential for focus body time, willpower regen, and power reserve drain, though. Estarra's said it won't get any more abilities for that reason. Environment and riding just suck in general.

That's not a skill everyone uses. Asking for it to only available to Necromancy wouldn't be right. tongue.gif

YES! I miss that skill terribly as well.
Sylphas2005-07-21 16:52:52
We won't get farsight, we have to pay for scry enchants. sad.gif
