So, I'm at a public library, where they of course, block all access to port 23. Hurrah. Anyways, for those who couldn't care less about me, ignore this.
I live with my mum (*loves her mum*) and her boyfriend. Long story short, couldn't afford to live out of home when my last lease was up. Anyhows, mum's boyfriend is a complete nazi about letting me use the phone line, and let's just say, we disagree about it. A lot. Quite vocally. This is why I often disappear when I'm actually on-line!
So, anyhows, I'm gonna try again tomorrow to see if I can figure out a way around his sneaky bastardness (he's glued the damn phone connector shut with gunk so I can't even get to the copper wires now) and come online, but if I don't, mourn me, for I have failed
And if I can talk my mother into it, I'll just borrow the money to install a phone line in me own room
This doesn't really require replies, but hey, I'd love to talk to people anyway. I live in the middle of nowhere and have half an hour before my bus arrives.
Ciao, Kara!

Mean, mean, nobody wants to talk to me
Anyhows, I'm off to catch my bus, and then take a 45 minute walk home from them *le sigh* At least I got a new copy of Elvenbane to reread.

I luff you, Bau. You fight the power and hopefully things will work out for the best.
Shiri2005-07-20 07:28:52
Confucious say, wait more than 23 minutes for proper reply, especially during village influencing.

Aren't there ways around that, anyway?
Unknown2005-07-20 07:42:55
I think so. Haven't had to tinker with public stuff in awhile though.
Bau, when I come to Aus. (to harass Luke) lemme kidnap you.
We'll pie the boyfriend too if necessary. We might want to wear masks though.

Hm, I swear I remember reading about it on the Imperian boards. I'll see if I can find the topic for you.
Sylphas2005-07-20 07:52:43
Oi. I can see it now, someone tunnels around our port blocking, and then their session timer runs out, and they start screaming about being in the middle of influencing a village, and I have to kick them out of the library...

My mom is a computer nazi in general. She hates for me to be on the computer as much as I am. That's why I just suddenly poof, because you can't really get around your mom.. Elder gods maybe, parents no.
It's weird that it's herboyfriend not letting you online though.. Have you told your mom how much that bothers you?

I feel for you Bau. Dialup is the suck, I often have the same problems with people not wanting me on but not nearly to the degree that you are experiencing.

I'm almost positive that you could connect to Aetolia on maybe 3 or 4 different ports, but I can't remember what they were and I can't find them anywhere. I could be wrong about this, but if I'm not and someone could give them to you that might solve you library issue.
Or you could try using the Java client (depending on exactly how they have the port blocked, and how the client works). I would imagine it comes in on port 80, which is the normal web port so it won't be locked.
On the other hand, it would probably be easier just to convince your mother that her boyfriend is evil and should unglue the phone cord.

I can open the Java client at work, but it won't connect. Pretty sure it still uses port 23.

I'm stuck with telnet at work, and for some reason I cant see what I type in it ...so...I have to be quite careful
Sylphas2005-07-20 18:34:05
Telnet is like that. It sucks completely.

Settings -> Options -> Local Echo (Tick the box)
Shiri2005-07-21 03:30:30
Where is this "settings" you speak of? I can't find it on the telnet client...
(And the "settings" off "start" has no "options" menu. )

Alt-F, I believe, proper telnet (telnet.exe), from the windows directory (Any windows > 98 should have some telnet client starting with H)

Ok, so I'm back again.
I tried using java at the library, only it automatically blocks port 23 and the only thing you can do on the library computers is open IE. Literally. Not a damn thing else, not even run. *pouts*
Anyhows, I'm back for a few days, at least, and I'll probably move out when I do end up going back home (I'm down in Melbourne again for a week or so) so I may be back soon after all. Who knows?
Anyhows, my poor Geo is lost on Astral and nobody will help her, so I'm going to go back to trying to get unlost.
