None, I wasn't even awake. Damn things revolted around 3 and 5 AM. Screw that.

We all like to believe the world revolves around our own time zone (I know I do!). But since we do have players who live in Europe, Asia, Australia, etc., I think it's a good thing that the random village revolts means, no matter what time zone you live in, there's a chance to be included.
Unknown2005-07-20 18:07:15
Yea, but the last four, to five I think?, revolts have been around that time. Random bad times are too common.

Oh sure, I understand this, I was more saying "Screw the chances of my being up at those times to be of any assistance to the city I am leader of when I have to work a 9-5 job and staying around to influence means I do it on maybe 1 hour of sleep." But by the same token, it gets to a point where I feel extremely frustrated when things like this happen, where I wake up to being significantly worse off than when I fell asleep through 0 fault of my own, nor can I really put the blame on anyone. It's just tough cookies though I suppose.

Either way, I'd far prefer things like this be a bit more involved in the planning stages rather than all centered on that short period of time when the village revolts. I mean, given how extremely important the politics system is to the game balance, the primary deciding factor in one's chance to be of impact to it shouldn't be reduced to a random number generator. Everything that happens over the course of time a village is held should be taken into consideration and mean as much if not more than what happens during that brief influencing window. One of the design flaws that I feel has yet to be addressed significantly is the quantized nature of conflict here. Too much is centered on short-term individual events that occur in a near vacuum. If we are going to have these systems in place whereby large aspects of the realm are affected by player actions, then ALL actions that can be kept track of consistently need to factor in in a meaningful way. Otherwise you're just creating metagames for people to ignore in their attempts to powergame and forego roleplaying except in those brief instances where it matters most (like Divine-run events and influencing sessions.)

Thats why you work with your organization to have plans and methods that anyone who is around at anytime can follow.

It's a matter of numbers as much as preparation, and I still think it unfortunate that we're reduced to metagame strategy over consistent role dependency.

Har, I hate this too. ALL villages usually go when I either:-

1) Have to be getting ready or am just leaving for work (like Paavik this morning was up for influence when I logged in at 8:15am and I had to leave at 8:45, no later)

2) Have to return to work from lunch time.

3) During work! (like Southgard after Paavik, whilst I was working)

This happens quite often and it makes me feel horrible knowing that people think, gee, he's leaving during a revolt again.

It especially sucks when I'm supposed to be one of the larger figures in Glomdoring at the moment, great example I set because of my timezone but alas what happens, happens I guess.
Unknown2005-07-20 18:33:59
I'm glad for the randomness and I understand what it is like to be stuck on both ends of the sucky timezone scale.
Xenthos2005-07-20 18:41:14
And I've missed four out of the last five revolts due to bad timing, which is just a LITTLE frustrating. Especially since it will now be years before Paavik is up again *shakefist Serenwilde's governing style*
Unknown2005-07-20 18:46:18
Same here. The only revolt that I caught recently was Shanthmark. Missed everything else.
Olan2005-07-20 18:49:41
I've missed a ton of revolts in a row, which makes me a sad panda because I <3 villages. Last night I got home, read forums to see that paavik was up, logged in to find it was over, went to bed...apparently right before Southgard went up. doh.gif

I MUCH prefer the days when villages were predictable to within the hour. Remember those days? When people who were smart and organized could make sure a good crew of people showed up at the proper times, and the whole city would be geared up and ready for it.

I dislike the random numbers game. I don't think people should be 'punished' for understanding how the politics system works. I think it hurts all of us in the long run to have it be random, and people are either worn out or never get to have any fun. Honestly, I totally miss villages...nowadays, I log in, maybe forge a little or bash back the xp I lost from buggy lichdom deaths or whatever...BORING.

Hey, where do I sign up for the Magnagora IM chain?

I was thinking about that this morning too.. That I wonder if we could convince the Commune to have "Influence drills". Make sure people get used to what they are supposed to be doing, our sanctuary people know where to go and so on. Then I remembered just how hard it is to herd cats. So I made breakfast instead and started working on other things.

Ironically enough, as I said that was my second news post. My first was titled "Herding cats". biggrin.gif

Bah I hated the maths calculation politics, it was so bland.
Joli2005-07-20 20:42:55
Looking back, I've probably missed 3 out of the 5 revolts. I wasn't around for Paavik or Southgard and I'm not about to lose any sleep over it. The one time I did stay up to influence I ended up sleeping till my parents came home from their 9-5 job and got my censor.gif chewed out really really good sad.gif , so no.. if a village revolts at 3 in the morning I'm still gonna hop my happy butt to bed. Though it's pissed me off a bit to have all of the last revolts be at so damn late. Should at least have one be in the afternoon, than another at night, and so on and so forth.

It's not being random anymore, because they always revolt at around the same damn time.. which is usually 2-3 a.m. for me. ranting.gif
Olan2005-07-20 20:48:09
It isn't about losing sleep for me. Its about having fun. I have more fun when things are happening. I like being a part of a city and organized effort. Villages are a consistant way that desire is satiated. I'm not losing sleep, I'm just losing interest.

I'm not losing interest. I've got more interest than I usually do. I've got more stuff to do than I actually know what to do with.. Bothering Kidaen, waiting for election results (2 more days >_<), watching the retarded novices, and plotting my revenge on Vesar for chasing me around the city with daggers. I keep myself busy somehow even if I'm not helping with the weird villages. happy.gif
Shamarah2005-07-20 21:17:40
Gah. I've missed like all the last five revolts sad.gif

Bad Shamarah!
Syrienne2005-07-20 22:10:26
I have to say same mistake happened in Southgard as happened in Stewartsville, to busy being bullies instead of influencing. I must have died about 5-6 times but I stopped even bothering fighting back to wisp trap in middle of a demesne with Narsrim spamming aeon, so I just died def'd and grabbed another sentry for Glom. Calculate out that formula and it equals victory pretty much everytime.
Unknown2005-07-20 22:46:05
Kidaen
"The main theme of these battles, one of which lasted almost an IC decade, was mainly the extreme chaos they represented."

Do you really mean decade? or instead of IC years do you mean IC days? cause i know when SW took Stewertsville from Mag, when Mag did that thing with Lord Fain's shrines it took 8-hoursOOC, or 8-9days IC, 10years IC would be... well weeks OOC, and i don't think anything would last that long :-P it just couldn't seeing as after that Stewertsville incident Villages were slightly recoded so they couldn't draw on THAT long.

Ya I sympathize with those in differant time zones, my sleeping habits changed these past two days do to a ton of driving to and back from my sisters for her birthday, as she lives on the other side of the state, 6hours up 6hours spent there, around 10 hours back with a nap at a rest stop, ya that screwed me over and i missed both revolts by a few hours cause i was catching up on sleep...

Oh sleep how i loath thee!! angry.gif

P.S. new smilies? merian.gif sweet!
