I know this is sort of off the beaten track lately but I was a bit curious if there was any plans in the near future to put any work into the family code.. cause right now it's pretty annoying heh. Only one bloodbond and then no other siblings is sort of insane Anyways I was just curious I been really drilling on my RP more and more these days and my family was one of the main focal points.
Malicia2005-07-20 22:28:51
It'd be too easy to form a great house, don't you think?
Syrienne2005-07-20 22:30:50
50 people? on this mud? Not really.. not if your entire family had to be actual family. You might see people form one, maybe 2 at most if they were willing to sacrifice RP for globbing in tons of members .. in which case Great Houses aren't the most huge deal I just would like to see families better structured and more possible for more sisters/brothers and such
Richter2005-07-20 22:33:35
The divine have stated that you will only be allowed to start a family with two people. Otherwise, I'd have been well on my way to a great house. Irritating as it may be, I'm only "allowed" to have Murphy as my brother, even though Aris is as well.
At this rate, I think someone figured it would take one or two rl years to make a great house. The thing that I'm concerned about is that you need 50 active players, and if you sort out the idiots and the people that RP, can you find 50 people that even -want- to be in a family with the founders?

why cant you have more then one brother or sister taht seems strange to me
Ialie2005-07-20 22:36:32
Yeah they need to ease up on that, a greathouse isn't really that big a deal to have so many restrictions.
I started this starfall family, bloodbonded with my brother, now.. He quit the family, he is free to bloodbond again, but if I want to carry on the family name I have to get married to a guy that would be willing to take my name, as I cannot bloodbond again. Which isn't right.

I agree I don't see why all the fuss over Great Houses. All they would do is enrich RP even more if you could as Richter said even find 50 people who aren't morons and RPless to join the family. And with most people already having founded their own families I don't think 50 would be easy at all.
Ialie2005-07-20 22:40:51
I would like to add what a great pain families are to single women as it is hard to find a male that will take on the female last name.

At 50 active members, a family gets a channel and newsboard. If you start with ten brothers, you'd have one in no time. I planned it so that I'm the oldest I can be, as is Yukari. Murphy is, but his wife is middle aged. So, we're, as far as I know, the closest (if we marry/adopt soonish) to getting a great house, because I can already have grandkids. In four more years, I can have great grandkids.
And it's still going to take forever.
Ialie2005-07-20 22:42:10
Honestly if you have have a buttload of children, by adopting them one by one, I don't see why you can't have more than one brother or sister. It hinders -A lot- of things.
Unknown2005-07-20 22:58:04
If they made it as slow as adopting kids, it wouldn't do any extra damage.
Richter2005-07-20 23:02:24
Adopting kids is fine, great house requirements are extraordinary.
Daganev2005-07-21 00:37:30
Nevermind the greathouse... Torgith, Tharruk, Ethelon, and I are all the same age... but we are all suppose to be brothers... then our next closest realatives arn't 13 years younger then us...
How would blondbonding to eachother take less time then getting married and having them as kids?

Remember how they said that had to code the segment for Titan/Demigod at the last minute?
What if they haven't coded for Great Houses yet either?

Seriously, the thing about "It will make great houses" too easy does not only NOT MATTER, which was the original argument we used against it, but now is it pretty necessary. (If it's true at all.)
Seriously, in addition to what Ialie's said etc., look at the largest official family. I see 7 active members, and 2 inactive. (Mes'ard.)
This is after almost a year. I mean c'mon, guys. :/
EDIT: I'd like SOME kind of family, for myself. Right now I have me, and an inactive sister, and since Nejii is obviously never going to get married, that's it. There aren't enough Furrikin around to make it a THREAT of some sort, so it'd be nice if I could at least officially recognise a couple more.

Great Houses, effectively Great Family lines, should be rare. 50 people is not as hard as you think. Unless there is some obscure family line I missed when I looked, Mes'ard is currently the largest family out there at:
7 Active Official members
1 Inactive Official member who needs a kick to come back
1 Dormant Unofficial member who needs to come back so Skyla and I can consider her
2 more children we are working to bring into the family
It takes some work, but it should take some work. It really isn't that hard though once you start. Just convince your daughters to do the proposing though. However, in our case with little to no work at all, we have a family nearing 1/5th the requirements needed, 1 son, and another on the way. At least one potential son in law on the way. So the family will jump once they start having children and so on.
One thing I wish they would remove is divorced people as inactive family members. Unless there was children involved they are not family members at all, active or inactive.
Edited for spelling and better grammar.

Yes, its not difficult if you have 2 people who want to start a family, but what do you do when you have 3 or 4 people who want to be siblings?
As far as I know, theres no way to have your families combine with your children.

Gregori2005-07-21 02:43:29
Why should siblings be given an unfair advantage over Married couples in forming a Great House? Forming a beginning family of 3 or 4 siblings is an instant family of 6 - 8 people once they marry. Where as the best the current system allows for is 2 - 4. I see no reason "siblings" should be given extra priviledge and I like the fact that more families are forced into the game. One thing that was stupid in Achaea was 3 huge familes that comprised of really 1 big family that was just so tangled in knots you could squeeze a couple family lines out of it.
In Lusternia they are trying to make people actually become families and they do it well with the Family system. Oh well, you can only have one brother or sister, boohoo. You have the choice of forming a Family Line or RPing a Family Line. There isn't really a difference except one has potential to get a clan and newsboard in time and the other has potential to turn into Lusternia's version of the Wildfang/Longshanks Family(from Achaea).
Edit:: There would also be larger families if people would work with the family system instead of doing completely stupid things like adopting someone 3 years younger them and playing pretend that they are their kids. If you want to be involved in Great Houses work with the system not against it.
Edit:: In regards to ShiriBot: Your statement while semi accurate does not reflect the true nature of the beast. Yes it is after nearly one year that we are the largest family, however Skyla and Gregori were not married until June 3rd and in less than 2 months they grew to the largest family (no huge accomplishment) but are again nearly 1/5th the needed requirement and with a couple additions and marriages will be close to 50% of the way to a Great House. So in essence it is really a case of everyone wanting to adopt each other as brother and sister instead of doing what the game was designed as and making a damn family that has slowed down the process.

I'm just not getting how at this point in the game, doing a bloodbond with 3 people, or getting married, and then considering 2 kids is any different...
