Can you sue because you got fat? Or spilled coffee on yourself?

Oh, no. Great pity, that. I've been eating hot pockets (about six a day) for two weeks, and finally gained a pound. Although I think it was more my lack of movement or activity that did it. I need to start working out again. But, I want one of those really cool Ab-Lounges on TV. Let's sue that Hot Pockets company!

o_OÂ How do you justify pinning someone down and THEN shooting them?
156063
I have no idea what happened, so this is just conjecture - they probably wrestled him down when they thought they wouldn't have to kill him, then he went for a trigger or something so they decided the only way to go was to get rid of him.

Aye, that was my theory, as well. I honestly don't believe they'd just kill him out of some moral sense of "justice".
Sylphas2005-07-22 20:11:01
Oh, I'm sure they had good reason, I just can't imagine a situation where you can be described as pinned down, and yet still go for a detonator or something before they could just physically stop you without making you die.

Aye. Well, who knows. I'm sure we'll get a clearer picture soon.

Well obviously not as if that had been the case they could have just shot him while he was running. They may have decided already that he needed to be taken out, but didn't want to risk him being able to detonate if they just shot him rather than immobilising him and then shooting. There could be a hundred different reasons, and if the reason used wasn't a good one I'm sure there'll be an inquest, etc.
Laysus2005-07-22 20:52:18
Well, if they thought he was loaded with explosives and they thought he'd set them off...
Shoot or be blown to smithereens?
And yeah, that shooting was four stops away from my local tube station. Getting a bit close to home *grumble*.

Anyone know what happend in Egypt? Is it related?
Unknown2005-07-23 03:39:40
I've not heard a thing. I try to ignore the news, unless I'm at work. And, given my blood alcohol content at the moment, I doubt I have the sobriety required to wander and drudge through the republican propaganda.

We must live pretty close!

Hmm. This just keeps surprising me. Not used to other countries acting like the U.S. Apparently the guy had nothing to do with the bombings, according to the Washington Post.

Hmm. I'll look at it. Ten bucks says it's extremist media attempting to paint another gov't as a total failure.
I wonder if Joey's behind this one. >.> Damn boys. I always fall for the people as nutty as me.
Unknown2005-07-23 19:35:30
Yea, it's on a few of 'em. It's an AP thing. Iunno. The article I read made it quite clear that police sources and experts were saying that police are operating under "revised guidelines" when dealing with "possible terror suspects".
I still stand with mine and Lisaera's statements - the man probably made a wrong move and was shot. Me go boom, or you with a bullet in your head. What do you think I'm going to choose?
And, as morally wrong as it seems, I'm afraid I have little against a "shoot-to-kill" policy when it comes to someone wearing winter coats in the middle of summer, in an underground subway, where, just the day before, bombs were going off. And he ran.

Yeah, really, innocent people don't run when confronted by police.
Why would you?
Why would you?
Sylphas2005-07-24 01:39:38
People, chill, I'm not disagreeing with the police at all, just saying I'm continually surprised by how are turning out.
And you very well might run if you're scared out of your mind. Not any sort of a good idea, but you might. It's how people are wired to act.

You should watch the movie crash. Innocent people run from the authority in places like Los Angeles very often.
Shiri2005-07-24 04:27:13
I know I'd freak out if a load of policemen wielding guns were bearing down on me. I don't know if I'd run or not, but really I would probably be scared so bad I'd hardly act rationally.
Lisaera2005-07-24 11:46:44
I have no idea what the police are like in Los Angeles, but police brutality isn't something we have a great deal of problems with here. If the police were pointing guns at me and shouting at me to freeze and get on the floor, that is EXACTLY what I would be doing.

Aye. I'd be right beside you, begging for them to NOT put a bullet in my arse. Irrational or not. If the police are pointing guns, don't run. If they're black police, that makes sense. (KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!) Yea. Just. Don't run, Shiri. Then I'd be FORCED to actually run, 'cause, Laysus vs no one is silly.
