On Thursday night, I was involved in a car accident. I was driving the usual 30 miles home from work, and coming into town, for reasons I'll probably never know, I ran a red light, and got hit on the driver's side by a full size SUV. My much smaller Oldsmobille didn't stand much of a chance. Luckilly, I was hit closer to the wheel than the door, or else I'd probably have been killed. Witnesses say that it was a pretty blatant red light, and I don't understand why I would have run it, but I got a traffic citation for it as well (the other driver got a $500 ticket for not owning a licence ).
I got taken to the local hospital on the island, and they decided because I slammed my head (I think into the post between the doors, because my window was down) kinda hard, they wanted to go to a bigger city to get the advice of a neurosurgeon. So, we got back in an ambulance (I remember none of this) and they asked the ferry driver to double time it. I woke up Friday morning in a hospital bed with no memory of anything that had happened.
So, I'm left with a concussion, minor amnesia (apply health to head, I know), painful bruises where the seat belt caught me, and some bumps and bruises. Amazingly, that's all I got, and if it were a second or two the other way, I likely wouldn't be here now.
I'm doing a good bit better now. The confusion has lifted, but I haven't regained any memory of the incident. I actually went for a jog when I got home from the hospital, and though I swore I told someone (I said it, but I think my dad had left the room), the cops and half the neighborhood were looking for a rather discombobulated 20 year old with a concussion. I was found about an hour later at Starbucks, outside, water in hand, and had just fallen asleep.
Right now, we're trying to figure out my financial stuff. My parents paid the $2000 left on my car, and I'm going to have to get a new one, since my job is 30 miles from home. My insurance company is probably going to drop me (they specialize in drivers that are "safe" to insure), I'm in financial hell for a year or so (it could be a -lot- worse, I work in insurance, so I know ), I need to find a new car, and some Lusternian positions that I hold are going to have to be resigned from probably. Also, my laptop was in the car when I crashed, and it had some problems starting up, so we'll see how that goes.
So... I'm left with bills, and a headache, stemming from both head trauma, and well... bills. I'm sure I'll be fine eventually, and everyone says that at least I'm alive. I figured my friends here would want to know, and some of you want to know why I haven't done guild work in two or three days. If anyone bothers me about it, I'm going to have to kindly tell them to piss off, and hope that they've read this.
Well... back to work.
ttfn,
Marc

Hey sorry to hear that but you're young and healthy, you will be well again in no time. Sucks about the extra bills, I know what it's like to get those thrown on you unaware.
Hope to see you back here well again soon!

I'm glad you're alright!
My dad was in a serious car accident a few years ago, ran into the back of a Mac Truck at 50 mph. Wrapped his foot around the break pedal (completely shattering his ankle), broke all his ribs, broke his arm, punctured a lung, lacerated his liver (on the shifter), and had a sizable cut across his head. Not sure how he survived, but he did. He's got a limp now, but other than that he's fine.
MIracles happen...I'm glad you were lucky enough to have one!

...maybe I should believe people when they say I'm lucky to be alive. I wasn't acting very grateful to the powers that be due to the bills, but I guess having my life is pretty important.

Yeah, conglut doesn't work in real-life

Ew, that's horrible. I remember how hard it was when my sister got hit by a semi and the hospitals apparently don't give a flying rat's if you were just in an accident. Hopefully your family will provide the support you need, because that is generally the best thing you could possibly have right now. I don't think my sister would have made it if my parents hadn't been there for her.
I wish you luck and hope you feel better soon. Apply health to head.

Hey Marc, sorry to hear about the accident...Glad you're at least mostly OK. I've been in almost the exact situation before (well, bills and tickets and such, not injuries) so I know it can be rough. But you'll get through.
Guess you won't likely be driving down to visit again any time soon though

That's just awful, thank goodness made it through mostly intact!
Take your time and recuperate properly, I'm sure Lusternia will be ready for you when you feel well enough to return.

Oi, oi. Nasty stuff. Well, hope things work out.

If you can remember to apply health to head you can't be that bad off!
Get better, don't worry about the guild stuffs.

Welcome to the USA, a nation of greedy Capitalists. I'm not surprised at all about the pile of bills.
I'm glad to hear you're well, though. It wouldn't be the same without someone for me to suggest the name "Chairs R Us" to

Play lusty a bit and you forget about how dangerous RL is...
Thank goodness you only got hurt. I have a feeling you won't be the only one telling people to piss off if they bugger you about lusty stuff.
Lust will be waiting for you whenever your ready - Get better!

That is so scary Richter! You really ARE lucky. I'm very glad you're going to be ok. Not that we interacted much in the game, but I always enjoy reading your posts here and would miss you very much if something horrible had happened.
Just remember, when things seem really crappy and you're being bogged down by bills and legal stuff and think you got a raw deal... You could have died and there's no fixing that. Everything else is a temporary set-back.

With my own incidents in mind, Richter, all I have to say is this. Do your family a favour, and don't go places alone. Please. And for yourself. As has already been shown with the Starbucks incident, you'ld probably be best going places with people for a while. Your concussion's prolly gettin' to ya.
That said, please get better. I need someone to hate on.

Move to Canada. Free health-care, and we're alot friendlier. On a more honest note, though, I hope you get better, Marc. An accident like this just shows us all how much we -actually- do care about you, no matter what we seem to say, or /post/, or IM. Get better soon.
Nayl2005-07-24 17:15:48
Richter, that's not good to hear.
I've been in 4 write-offs (Totalled Car), and, it hasn't been fun.
Neck's still buggered.
Now then, rest, remember to excercise, eat good, and err... don't do anything I wouldn't do twice.

I looked into becoming a Canadian once. It's too hard. *G* Or I'm too lazy to become fluent in French. One or the other. *G*

Eh? You don't have to be fluent in French at all to live in Canada, unless you want to move in Quebec. Pretty much every other provinces mostly speak English.
Edit: Oh and I hope you get better quickly, Richter
